I like everything it symbolises. Of course, on a literal level, we get to say goodbye to those sweltering summer temperatures. But from a more metaphoric stance, September is also a month for change, reflection and looking ahead.
And as we look ahead in Abu Dhabi, all we see is an unforgettable few months of fun. What better way to blast away the cobwebs and get you out of that quiet summer lull than an allsinging, all-dancing, action-packed calendar of cultural, sporting, musical and heritage events?
It starts right now. If you’re in need of a few laughs, they’ll be coming by the bellyful with a string of comedy gigs. Looking to inject a little music into your life? Whether you’re rocking out to Foo Fighters or singing along with Robbie Williams, some of music’s biggest names land in the capital this season. More of a sports buff? From basketball to professional brawls and tennis to the nail-biting Formula 1 final, it’s all happening here.
Then there’s all the family fun to be had with the return of some of the city’s biggest and best festivals. From a celebration of culinary and creativity in the Liwa Desert, to the Cornichetransforming Mother of the Nation, there’s something for everyone. Consider our season entertainment guide, from p15, your invitation to make this season your most thrilling one yet.
Of course, we’re all about making your month as fun-filled and free as possible, but with September comes the unavoidable return of the back-to-school routine. For some, that’s the news they’ve been waiting for all summer long, for others, it’s not so appealing. We’re making it that little bit sweeter with some awesome ideas to make this month anything but mundane. Start making plans from p29.
Enjoy the issue,
Coya has not only stood the test of time on the city’s burgeoning dining scene, it’s also remained at the top of its game. It had been a while since I’d visited, so when a friend suggested dinner, I jumped at the opportunity to return. It still has that tri-factor of beauty, well-executed Peruvian dishes and top service.

– Alice Holtham, Group EditorAtrangi
I recently dined at Atrangi by Ritu Dalmia, and, oh wow, was I impressed. Dishes from various regions in India dot the fine-dining menu and I was left nostalgic from the home-style flavours used. Across the venue you’ll find cute design touches and the view at sundown reminds me of home.

I love a good cocktail, particularly one created by a mixologist that very obviously takes pride in their craft.
Recent opening Agora, at The Dubai Edition, is on-message. Each cocktail that I tasted ignited sparkly eyes and happiness within me. I’ve got three words for you – wow, just wow.

I wish I had a large collection of printed socks. Growing up, wearing mismatched socks to school was a simple yet annoying method of rebellion to frustrate my parents (not at all because I couldn’t find the right pair). At the moment, I’m obsessed with a pair of funny puzzle-printed socks that I purchased from a little store in DFC, and I’m on the hunt for more inhabitants to my sock drawer. The game is afoot.

Keen for a dose of tuck shop flashbacks? Candylicious’ current retro sweet celebration, featuring candy that first appeared in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s (available until the end of September) is giving out all the retro Willy Wonka feels, with none of the work place accidents.
@candyliciousworld
– Miles Buckeridge, Deputy Editor, What’s On Dubai
Wayfarer sunnies are still cooler than cool. Available in colours aplenty, but the green lenses on polished black are the OG variant and have been featured on faces and screens for over fifty years. I’m a fan because of their wider, heavier frames that can roll with rough handling.
@opticone_ae
– Dinesh Ramanathan, Deputy Editor, What’s On Abu Dhabi
You may have already heard the news, but just in case, British fashion label Nobody’s Child has officially landed in the UAE. Nobody’s Child is a sustainable and affordable women’s fashion label known for chic and stylish printed dresses, and linen suits, worn by the likes of my fashion muse, Sienna Miller.
@marksandspencerme
– Tamara Wright, Online Reporter
I’m late to the station, but I’ve officially boarded the Steven Yeun appreciation train. I’ve become obsessed with his latest television release, Beef, and I’ve never been more entertained by people being just absolutely despicable. Yeun’s Danny and Ali Wong’s Amy are as nasty as they come but in a broccoli-in-your-teeth sort of way. You can’t stop watching.

Each month, we ask residents to share a guide to the UAE through their eyes, from their favourite hidden gems, to must-try dishes and local brands they love. This month, we chat to Candy Fanucci, founder of surf lifesaving and community group, Pirates Surf, (@pirates.surf). Here, she shares recommendations from her more than twenty years of putting smiles on Dubai’s young faces.
When the weather is good there’s nothing better than a breakfast picnic on the beach. Gecko cafe on Kite Beach, where we train, does a cute acai bowl that I like to take down to the water’s edge. @geckodxb
I love anywhere with a connection to nature, like JA Hatta Fort Hotel where we go hiking and the peacocks roam free. Also Anantara Sir Bani Yas, which is home to the most incredible wildlife, including gazelle, giraffe and even cheetah all roaming free on the island. It’s not quite Africa but it’s a taste of home for me.
@jahattaforthotel, @anantarasirbaniyas
I switch off through exercise and my favourite new thing is padel. It’s a great way to unwind even though you’re running around! WPA in Al Quoz is my second home. I’ve also got into weekly ice baths with Mr Ice on Kite Beach. Sitting in a tub of ice, focusing solely on breathing is a great way to switch off!
I love the little places that make Dubai tick. Xparkjr is a play area for kids but it’s also my office and I get to take care of the animals. And we recently discovered Eleven Green for the best burgers.
@xparkjr, @elevengreen.uae
I know I’m biased but I’m passionate about getting more people outside. We’re so lucky here, the coastline is just simpy stunning. But I’m also quite new to desert camping and it’s a pretty magical experience to be out amongst the dunes and under the stars.
I’m still blown away by the gorgeous skies over Kite Beach at the end of our sunset session surrounded by my Pirates Surf community. It’s my happy place. Even after 13 years of coaching, I never take a day or sunset for granted. @kitebeachdubai

How would you describe the last eight years of your career?
I would describe it as pretty surreal. It’s also funny how quickly eight years have gone by. I still feel the joy and excitement I initially felt when I made See You Again everyday in my musical career. Is there anything you want to tick off while you’re in the UAE?
I’m hoping some of the locals can guide me! It’s exciting experiencing a place you’ve never been to for the very first time.

Is there bite to this café or is it just for looking glam on the ‘Gram?
At the time of writing, Barbiemania had taken over the UAE. The latest movie release has the entire country in a pink-hued frenzy with restaurants jumping aboard the Barbie train with pink-themed drinks, afternoon teas and even brunches
However, one cafe in the capital did not need the launch of Barbie to attract the pink-loving crowds, although it has probably helped. Standing out in its shimmering rosy hue at the waterfront district of Yas Island, a stone’s throw away from Etihad Arena, is the long-awaited Abu Dhabi iteration of EL&N, which stands for ‘Eat, Live & Nourish.’
The pink signage is impossible to miss, vibrantly standing out against the setting sun. Glamourous ladies strike a number of poses in front of the café, and the snaphappy action continues indoors.
Once inside, it feels like we’ve fallen inside the pages of a teen’s pink-obsessed
scrap book with hanging neon hearts, flowers, and quotes. The pink barista counter at the back sits under a huge melting magenta disco ball, and the dessert counter at the centre showcases sweet treats from cakes, tarts, macaroons and more.
The prettiness of it all is a lot to take in, and yet it somehow still feels like just the right amount (excluding the strangely placed retail outlet).
It’s the weekend and seats are filling up as the sun sinks against the picturesque backdrop of Yas Marina. Around us, couples, families and groups sit within the vibrant pink surrounds, sipping on drinks, snapping photos, and tucking into equally ‘Gram-worthy meals.
The menu on offer mirrors the café’s DIFC branch in Dubai. We sip on a refreshing mojito (Dhs45) – served in a chemex glass - before hailing down a waiter to order our meals.
The crunchy halloumi bites (Dhs57) come with a spicy harissa mayo sauce, which we enjoy, though we wish the
truffle fries (Dhs30) had more parmesan and truffle to really feel the flavours. We opted for the eggs Benedict (Dhs65) prepared with pesto sauce instead of hollandaise, crunchy turkey bacon, and a thick English muffin which needs to be reconsidered, as the overpowering density dried out the dish.
The chicken saffron risotto (Dhs85) was intriguing, but the flavours didn’t work for us, and we concluded that the classic Italian rice dish is truly one not to be tampered with.
We lost the battle of ‘to dessert, or not’, opting for the tiramisu (Dhs45), which looked a little dry but thankfully wasn’t. The strawberry cake (Dhs42) earned a spot in our photo gallery with its four layers of vanilla cake and pretty pink frosting, though we missed the sweet flavour punch.
EL&N Cafe, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, daily 10am to 12pm. Tel: (0)2 883 9395. ae.elnlondon.com
Memorable interior and with a little fine tuning, the experience will match its shiny outer appearance.
Candle-style lighting and gastronomic grandeur illuminate the hospitality at Mamsha Al Saadiyat’s newest opening, Les Dangereux. This swanky, art-gallery-style dining experience from chef Soo Yong “James” Kim will have you wondering where to begin, when you’re heading home dazzled at the end of the evening.
When we’re done snapping pictures and our pupils begin returning to normal size, we’re seated by efficient staff whose quiet confidence echoes the culinary might behind this soft-opened Abu Dhabi dining concept. Our hosts are quick to highlight that we’re about to embark on a dining experience studded with a series of brief nibbles akin to ‘how royalty like to be fed’. “You might order the same thing the next time you’re here, but you’ll be served a different version”, we’re told, as a barleybased shot is presented before us as a welcome drink. Their chefs’ expertise and instinct drive the innovation that arrives at our table.
The dangerously exciting spread includes three variations of their menu, La Vegetarienne (Dhs450), Le Excursion (Dhs500), and the titanic Le Voyage, on which a first-class ticket is priced at Dhs1,000.
Their ‘new Arabia cuisine’ concept introduces us to a saffron cigar with custard to get things started. We’re quickly on to a lamb bite with caviar, and then succulent scallop that comes apart the moment it makes contact with our palates. Empty plates are swiftly whisked away, and we’re presented with a creation of camembert, saffron and Spanish tortilla, alongside a crunchy potato sphere. The creativity truly delights, and we’d be lying if we said mindfulness isn’t a challenge as we eagerly anticipate the arrival of the next carefully curated creation. Peas, baby corn, wild garlic sauce and ravioli pasta arrive, with minimalistic design and maximal taste. For beverages, we’re served a house-made Mexican cocktail with a signature spiced rum, and a few mind-
bending bites later, a pisco chicharamuda, a Peruvian coconut pisco-spiced cocktail.
Transparency is literally and figuratively a huge deal at Les Dangereux. Head Chef James steps away from the fire and arrives through big glass doors delivering full views of the kitchen talent in action, for a chat.
If you’re unable to decide on whether you want to enjoy an upscale dinner, take in spellbinding art or enjoy pampering on a plate for your next big celebration, come by Les Dangereux, where all three await.
“Some chefs can be quick to judge the customer, I generally follow an approach of not adhering to trends, but also not judging them. While it is important for me to understand my customers, I’m also not going to impose my own ideas of what good food should be to them. I’m really just trying to take them on a journey.” We thought Le Journey was pure art. But it seems there’s a science to it too.
Les Dangereux, Mamsha Al Saadiyat, Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi, 6pm to 12am, Tues to Sun. Tel: (0)50 977 2774. @dangereux.ae
Brunch is truly one B.I.G celebration this Saturday
Slam your brakes at the W Abu Dhabi – Yas Island come Saturday, because this Garage is set to fix your hunger.
Model looks, pretty colours and highenergy troops headline Garage’s B.I.G. Brunch. You may not have much help getting your oil changed or your engines souped up here, but this stylish brunch packs a punch on the culinary and entertainment front regardless. Sitting pretty atop one of the Yas Marina Circuit’s thrilling turns, it comes complete with a protruding, sunkissed terrace ideal for cooler months in the capital.
Our welcome Creeper, a refreshing cocktail, punches the back of your palate with grapefruit, apple juice and triple sec working their magic. As we gaze out at docked yachts, a second beverage arrives,
the D-grease, with activated charcoal. It’s smooth as silk and goes down in a gulp. Refreshed and ready, we head to a robust buffet selection that begins with bowls of crispy seafood crackers flanked by a selection of condiments, like plum sauce and sweet chilli. Signature crisp is missing in the spring rolls, but the taste is all there.
We’re told that Japanese mains fare best at the B.I.G. Brunch, and it’s hard not to agree when the sushi selection is being replenished every 10 minutes. These trays are truly B.I.G, with a colourful sensu (Japanese fan) inviting us to try out varieties such as fried rainbow maki, crab California maki, dynamites rolls and assorted maki rolls. Sashimi, salmon nigiri, avocado nigiri and tuna maki ensure Japanese favourites are heavy hitters off the
track as well. Chinese varieties and meat specials include short ribs, salted egg yolk prawns, stir fry beef noodles and turkey ham Yangzhou fried rice, ripe for the picking.
In pursuit of dessert delights and lighter eats, we make our way to the ‘Tart Van’, a food-truck-style addition that puts out citrusy, fruit-topped tarts that will make you wish you hadn’t unleashed all your fury on the mains.
During our three-hour session, we were introduced to lively remixes, enthusiastic dancers, a patron temporarily abandoning his plate to whack a pinata-style balloon, and a pair of gents clad in space-style suits and helmets, leading curious guests to the dessert table for a live demo.
This brunch spot is all sun, fun, and perfect for the hungry ones. Friends catch up, laughter rings in the air and birthdays are celebrated over sprinkle-rimmed shot glasses.
Garage, W Abu Dhabi - Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. Dhs320 soft drinks, Dhs420 house drinks, Dhs589 sparkling. Saturday, 1pm to 4pm. Tel: (0)2 656 0000.

The electricity is race-day like, and if you believe you can keep up, be sure to make a pit-stop here come Saturday afternoon.
On a Sunny summer afternoon in the capital, we walk into what is proudly known as Abu Dhabi’s longest bar. So naturally, we expect miles and miles of bar, with a cloud of indulgence and the scent of freshly poured pitchers. But we’re in for a surprise.
Yas Island’s Stills, on the ground level of the Crowne Plaza, is much more than any regular sports bar. With swift, friendly service and a menu that focuses on fresh, locally grown produce like a lot of the capital’s eateries have deftly adapted to, the kitchen packs an impressive spread. It’s comprehensive, diverse, and makes you want to linger on at the business, so you can keep ordering and enjoying both the food and the ambience.
We’re introduced to an elaborate, fullfledged selection that can cater to the party enjoying a football game, catching up with buddies or just docking to experience a complete dining experience. The staff are quick to highlight Stills’ focus on fresh food. “People are all about
healthy eating and supporting local these days”, our server says.
We’re recommended the incredibly flavourful mushroom flatbread (Dhs65) fermented overnight, and Mediterranean spiced prawns (Dhs145) when we opt for a lighter afternoon spread. Which is not to say they don’t serve up impressive mains, like the Polynesian crispy chicken burger (Dhs95) and the Philly cheese steak sandwich (Dhs110), we just wish we’d visited with bigger appetites.
A cursory glance at the television screens, and the Gunners are two-nil up. But we don’t register who they’re playing, with urgent matters on our plate like a delectable duality of tarty cranberry, married with a crunchy pumpkin seed emulsion amid bites of shaven cauliflower salad (Dhs65). This dish starts out light but quickly gathers steam, the wondrous amalgamation of flavours and superfoods it is.
Back to the mushroom flatbread, which holds its crispiness for over thirty minutes after it descends on
our table. You’d be excused for forgetting your manners and diving right in, such is its astounding aroma. Roasted whipped eggplant (Dhs55) jostles for space, served with fennel and onion flat bread. But it quickly takes centre stage with the right amount of smokiness and a cooling aura that helps greatly when we’re seaside in the summer.
When Saturday afternoon comes-a-calling and you roll out of bed wondering where to get your eats in, this no-nonsense sports bar-style restaurant with a hulking menu is the place to be.
Banging bass and sun-soaked seating are a beautiful pairing at Stills, but they’re not the only combo we’ll remember this spot for. Fantastic food and excellent service. Views of the water and mocktails to match. Stills is no regular sports bar, and if you’re looking for a little brochure advertising a selection of five bar bites, that will come as the only disappointment here.
Stills Bar and Restaurant, Crown Plaza, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. Sun-Thurs 12pm to 1am, Fri and Sat 12pm to 2am. Tel: (0)2 656 3066. @stillsyasisland
No matter how satisfied you are, there’s Stills more to come…

The Maqta Tower is located next to the Al Maqta’a Bridge, and is one of Abu Dhabi’s oldest buildings with great historic significance. It was built in the late 18th Century and is one of the coastal defensive towers built of coral stone and beach rock. In the past, the tower signaled arrival to Abu Dhabi Island for seafarers, and was a welcome rest stop on their journey to town. When Maqta Bridge was constructed, the tower turned obsolete but remains a photogenic reminder of the city’s past.
Qasr Al Hosn is a must-visit for culture and heritage fans. Translated to ‘Palace Fort’, it is one of Abu Dhabi’s most iconic landmarks. Do a 180 and walk a few steps to the north-eastern corner of the culture park to the Al Musallah prayer hall. The hall’s small, interconnected buildings show off a polygonal geometric design and form a cave-like structure providing seclusion for worshippers. Do note, only Muslims can enter the prayer hall.
Learn about the UAE’s rich heritage and crafts here. You’ll be able to purchase mementoes and witness centuries-old skills in action, such as Sadu – a traditional form of weaving practised by Bedouin women, Khoos – handwoven palm leaves traditionally used for house roofs, and Talli – textile handicraft used for decorations.

FILM FOCUS:
What is currently intended to be the concluding chapter of The Equalizer saga, The Equalizer 3 exploded into UAE cinemas at the end of August with a flurry of fracas and improvised weaponry. It wraps up the story of retired US Marine, ex-DIA officer, and missionary of bloody justice Robert McCall (Denzel Washington), a one-man special ops unit committed to defending the downtrodden and victims of organised crime. This third entry is primarily staged in a remote Italian town, where McCall finds himself staring down the berretta of a local Mafia family. The price for
peace, the cost of sanctuary is of course, a pile of dead bodies, intense hand gestures and all-out war.
The cast includes Dakota Fanning, creating an emotional Man on Fire, Creasy-Lupita reunion; David ‘Roy from The Office’ Denman; and Gaia Scodellaro. It’s directed by master craftsman Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Southpaw and The Magnificent 7) who has been at the helm for each of the three Equalizer films (itself a reboot of a TV show), with this film marking his fifth collaboration with onscreen muse Denzel. We had the honour of catching up with him ahead of the film’s release to discuss possible spin-offs, samurais and the validity of violence.
You’ve said before that this film concludes a trilogy, but what are the chances we’ll get to see a prequel or a spinoff or some other form of film in the Equalizer universe?
Yeah. I don’t know. The audience will decide really. Once it gets out into the world, and if it’s received the way we all hope and intend for it to be received. Those conversations, I’m sure, will happen. But it will be up to Sony.
Denzel’s character starts the movie as an outsider in the community that he finds himself in. What aspects of the character did you want people to see from this setup?
He didn’t really want to engage with the people, but because the people are warm... It’s a small town, and they’re very inviting. I wanted the audience to see how you
can fall in love with another culture. A man from America, a black man, could go to Italy and fall in love with the culture, with the people. So it doesn’t really matter where you are. That was the most important thing.
It feels like Robert McCall is on a bit of a lone samurai adventure. Upholding honour and fighting off morally bankrupt warlords. And obviously, your Magnificent Seven movie is a reimagining of Seven Samurai. Is that a genre you feel affinity towards?
I do. I think it all started when I saw Seven Samurai Corsaro’s film when I was a kid. The idea of helping people who can’t help themselves is very appealing to me. I think it’s important to put that into the world.
People love seeing bullies and abusers getting their comeuppance. And it seems to be a big part of the joy in watching the Equalizer movies. Do you feel like this makes the audience more accepting of the violence? That it’s a necessary part of the tale?
It is a necessary part of the tale in a movie. Right. In the entertainment world. I hope in a real world there’s other ways to deal with people. But in a movie, absolutely. It’s acceptable in an entertainment format. But the bad guys have to be worthy of that punishment as well. So they have to be really, really bad.
Were there any sort of executions or any scenes of extreme violence that you had to dial back a little bit where you felt like it went a bit too far?
There’s definitely stuff on the cutting room floor. A few things that I’ve said, “we’re OK, I don’t need that in every scene.” I always push it a little further and then I’ll dial it back a little bit, according to the audience, the studio and all the smart people around me. You have to find balance.
The offbeat one:
While we strongly believe that Abu Dhabi is one of the greatest cities in the world, it’s still a city, and that means it has the power to make even the most chipper rays of sunshine, a little frazzled at times. Some city stresses make us so mad, we just want to punch a hole in a wall. Thanks to The Smash Room – Abu Dhabi’s first destruction room – we now have a safe and healthy space to release our pent-up aggression. At The Smash Room, you can whack, hit, break and demolish whatever you want, using anything from a crowbar to a baseball bat to a sledgehammer. Located in the Nahil Building on Al Rawdah Street, The Smash Room stocks various pieces of furniture and urban junk from CPUs, guitars and DVD players to porcelain and ceramic plates available for you to destroy. Basic packages begin at Dhs199 per person for a 30-minute demolition session, and includes protective gear hire and stuff to smash. The Smash Room, Nahil Building, Al Rawdah Street, noon to 11pm daily, from Dhs199. thesmashroom.com

Here are five unique wellness spots, that could be just the tonic you need
The undisclosed one: Matcha
As padel clubs sprout up all over the UAE to meet demand, none have been as Instagram-worthy as boutique padel venue Matcha Club. The original space, located in Dubai’s Al Quoz industrial area, opened in late 2021 and with it, completely changed the aesthetics of padel playing in the UAE. The design-led club – with its terracotta courts, burnt-orange fencing and cool Palm Springs vibe – swiftly became the city’s iconic wellness lifestyle hub. This became the place to be for sweatband-ready padel players, wellness enthusiasts and alo-clad yogis as well as digital nomads and stylish young families looking for an airy and nourishing meal. A year later, and it opened a second location in Meydan, and now, whispers on the baseline suggest that Abu Dhabi will have its own enormous ladies-only Matcha Club opening within weeks in Al Bateen, complete with padel courts, movement spaces, a café, a concept store, a pool, and more. Keep your eyes peeled for opening news on WhatsOn.ae.

By practising in a heated room, your muscles are already warmed up, allowing for a deeper, more intense workout. This can help improve circulation, increase flexibility, and promote detoxification. The heat can also help promote relaxation and reduce stress, making it a great way to unwind after a long day. Other classes available include hot yoga sculpt, hot vinyasa, candlelit yin and mat Pilates.

A deeper dive into the Mediterranean masterpiece
This month, we’re handing the lens of our regional travel focus over to an industry expert: Matt Vlemmiks, Leisure Manager at dnata Travel, who’s taking us on a ‘Journey across the unforgettable wonders of Jordan,’ only a three-hour flight time from the UAE. Our suggested week-long itinerary starts in the capital city, where modern luxuries sit alongside fascinating historic sites. Travel on to time-defying Petra, one of the ‘New Seven Wonders of the World’, before staying amidst two of the Middle East’s most incredible natural landscapes – the Wadi Rum desert, and Dead Sea coast.
Visits to Jordan typically start in Amman, for a glimpse into local life and culture amidst its central hub. On a walking tour with a local guide, take in the best of the city from the streets of old downtown to marketplaces full of treasures, top historic landmarks, and its most famous restaurants. Take a day trip to the ancient city of Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world. Recommend hotels include the 5-star Landmark Amman, where rooms and suites are amongst the largest in Jordan, with panoramic city views. Its multiple restaurants and lounges also include the city’s longest outdoor bar.
No trip to Jordan would be complete without taking in the spectacular ‘lost city’ of Petra. Built in the third century BC by the Nabataeans, the intricate hand-carved temples, palaces and other important structures are hewn straight out of the red desert sandstone. We recommend taking at least two days to experience its natural beauty and architectural achievements. For a unique experience, every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday ‘Petra by Night’ sees thousands of candles light up the city, whilst ‘Petra Kitchen’ cooking classes offer an authentic, social affair. Stay at Hayat Zaman Hotel, close to the site. Here, modern facilities are styled within an authentic late 19th-century Jordanian village.
Undoubtedly one of the most incredible natural wonders of the Middle East, experience ‘Mars on Earth’ amidst the red sands of the Wadi Rum desert. Located in the south on the eastern fringes of Aqaba, explore its famous valley lined by epic limestone formations, on to boundless empty spaces, canyons, water holes, and other natural treasures, with the chance to spot millennia-old rock drawings. A two-hour Jeep tour allows a trip to the most iconic spots in a day. For clear, uninterrupted views of the night sky, stay in a ‘bubble tent’ at Jabal Rum Camp with endless opportunities for stargazing.
Also known as the world’s largest natural spa and the lowest body of water on Earth, Jordan’s Dead Sea coast is another of the country’s most spectacular natural landscapes. Its main attraction is the water itself, uniquely mineral-rich and high in salt content, allowing visitors to float peacefully as they soak up its regenerative qualities. At the Hilton Dead Sea Resort & Spa, enjoy direct access to its stretch of private Dead Sea beachfront, whilst taking advantage a range of amenities from spa treatments to a rooftop bar overlooking the shore.
One of the benefits of booking through an agent, is that itineraries can be tailor-made to meet the individual needs of travellers. For those looking to explore more of Jordan, other places of interest include Aqaba on its glorious Red Sea coast – a divers’ paradise, and for keen hikers, see the beautiful Dana Biosphere Reserve. Another option is to combine a trip with more of the Middle East.
dnata Travel’s ‘Discover Jordan’ holiday package takes in highlight stops and accommodation featured in this article, private transfers, a local guide, and more. For further advice and inspiration, or to create your ideal itinerary, contact the dnata Travel experts via call or WhatsApp on 800 DNATA (36282), on social media @dnatatravel, or visit a dnata Travel retail outlet, with stores located across the UAE. dnatatravel.com.

Sardinia’s ritzy resort towns are sought-after spots for a slice of La Dolce Vita. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg on this sun-drenched Mediterranean masterpiece…
What image does your mind conjure when you think of Sardinia? Sweeping golden beaches lapped by inviting turquoise waters? Plucked-from-apostcard Porto Cervo, with its designed boutiques and upscale restaurants? Once sleepy marinas now dotted with mega yachts, each the floating playground of someone rich and famous? While all of these enhance Sardinia’s allure, it’s not all glitz and glam. There’s so much more soul to this central Mediterranean jewel.
Thanks to a new seasonal direct flight route with flydubai, accessing this breathtaking islet has never been easier from the UAE. The seasonal route, which operates three times per week until September 30, lands you at Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport. This serves as a gateway to northeastern Sardinia, where endless glamour and rugged natural beauty are the surprise siblings that give this island its unique magic.
It’s easy to see why the secluded luxuries of this five-star resort have the rich and famous flocking to its shores. Nestled within the picturesque Cala Capra National Park, its appeal extends from the verdant, landscaped grounds, to the rustic luxe aesthetic and the charming staff. Honeymooners dine on a romantic floating deck, couples relax lazily in hammocks that billow gently under the dappled shade of the trees, while the Thalasso and spa is a pampering oasis where guests can truly switch-off. For something with a little injection of Porto Cervo glamour (the glitzy town is a mere 20 minutes drive away), dining on the terrace of Il Paguro is a sensory voyage that encapsulates the sights, sounds, aromas and flavours of the ocean it overlooks. Its fresh oysters spritzed with lemon and giant bowls of lobster pasta are each excuses to cancel any further plans for a long, leisurely lunch. Rates from Dhs1,935 per night. hotelcapodorso.com
Designed to feel like a quaint Italian village wrapped around a central swimming pool, this family-friendly stay from Felix Hotels is a handily located spot whatever your vacation style. Both the high fashion boutiques and swanky bars of Porto Cervo, located 20 minutes away, and the array of natural trails and golden beaches that dot the coast, are within easy reach. Guest rooms are simply styled and sit in neat rows around the swimming pool, and the grounds are also home to tennis courts and a play area for little ones. A continental breakfast of fresh pastries and local fruits is a great way to fuel up for a day of exploring. Rates from Dhs625. felixhotels.it
With its impressive array of restaurants, collection of swimming pools and best-inclass wellness facilities, you’d be forgiven for never leaving the resort when checkingin to Valle dell’Erica. Its sprawling 70 acres of private grounds and almost mile-long coastline are aching to be explored. Essentially two resorts in one – the newer La Licciola leads into the historic Erica – around each corner you’ll find saltwater infinity pools that appear to drift into the sea, sandy beaches dotted with parasols, and some half dozen restaurants. The best way to soak it all in is by getting lost among it all, although electric buggies are on-hand to help you to your final destination should you wish. The resort’s aesthetic appeal comes from its ability to blend seamlessly into its surroundings, and local wood, cork and stone are large parts of keeping the traditional charms of this former tourist village alive. From the impressive culinary array, don’t miss an aperitivo in the picturesque square at Nemo, served up to soulful live music. Rates from Dhs1,935 per night. hotelvalledellerica.com
Known and loved for its delectable Japanese fare, Zuma is a staple fine-dining destination in the UAE. At its counterpart in Porto Cervo, it lands as a seasonal pop-up that pairs a cool and contemporary ambience with sweeping vistas of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Expect energetic DJ sets, a selection of aperitifs designed for the jet-set locale, and an exceptional array of sushi.

A Michelin-pedigree celebration of Italian ingredients, Frades hails from Milan but packs its bags for a lofty terrace in Porto Cervo during the balmy Italian summer. The resulting restaurant is a near-faultless amalgam of stunning views, thoughtful Italian hospitality, and local flavours taking centre stage in dishes like culurgiones ravioli with black truffle and Milanese-style turbot.

Part-restaurant, part-beach club, part-bar –whether you go to Phi Beach to drink, dine or party, just make sure you go. The best way to experience this breathtaking see-and-beseen spot, arranged around the craggy rocks of the Baja Sardinia coastline, is with drinks at sunset to watch the golden orb meld into the ocean, its sorbet hues illuminating the sky. But you’ll want to stay until late into the night, with a regular rotation of international DJs headlining some of the island’s biggest parties against the backdrop of the ocean.
@phibeachofficial
A slightly more rustic iteration of the hedonistic beach club brand where every day is a celebration of life, Nikki Beach Costa Smeralda is set within the rugged Cala Petra Ruja bay. The adventure begins before you’ve event reached this stunning spot, which is accessible via Nikki Beach’s swish boat shuttle – or your own private yacht. Signature white day beds line the gently lapping shore, where guests happily while away afternoons soaking up the ambience and sipping on fresh Spritz. Beyond the beach there’s the restaurant, where energetic DJ sets provide the high-octane soundtrack to a menu of indulgent Mediterranean flavours.

The impossibly aquamarine waters that flank the northeast coast of Sardinia are well documented on Sardinian travel itineraries. But it’s not enough to simply see the endless shades of azure. Hop aboard one of Poseidon Charter’s expertly-crewed boats and set sail on a tour of the unspoiled landscape of La Maddalena National Park. Make pit stops at breathtaking hidden bays like Cala d’Alga and Spiaggia Rosa (pink beach), where impressive rock formations keep Centuries-old secrets, before docking in the archipelago of marvels for an inviting dip in the cool waters.

Stellar service and wondrous architecture headline this gateway to seaside bliss…
Right off the corniche on the Marina Mall Ring Road, Rixos Marina Abu Dhabi is conveniently located so you can get straight into staycation mode within fifteen minutes of the city centre. Despite its proximity to the city, the property is built along the beach, so you feel like you’re truly on vacation and worlds away from the stresses of city living.
A spacey, well-luminated lobby welcomes you, with awe-inspiring chandeliers that resemble jellyfish. Efficient staff clad in crisp blues are ready to assist, as you take in the stunning beauty of Turkish and aquatic-inspired design on the upper ground level. Winding stairs lead the way to the lower ground floor, providing snaphappy guests with a unique photo op, as a skilled pianist serenades lobby-dwellers with renditions of popular musical marvels.
True to its marina location, guests get what they come for and check in to rooms with either corniche views or a sprawling sea view. Our plush Premium Room with a corniche view features hues of clean white and brown, capping off a simple but
striking aesthetic. A generous refreshment selection, including tropical beverages and a fruit basket a la art class, will have you satiating your hunger pangs as soon as you kick your shoes off. And before you know it, you will find yourself lost to views of the Abu Dhabi corniche, sparkling waters and regal yachts for hours on end, with comfy chairs to sink into on the sun-soaked balcony.
It’s firstly a question of where, then what, when it comes to the Rixos Marina’s dining options. People’s Restaurant, where you can enjoy Turkish bites as close to the beach as possible, welcomes guests in indoor and alfresco settings. We order the strawberry daiquiri (Dhs65 regular, Dhs75 frozen), the perfect remedy for brutal summer temperatures in the capital, and our main of choice is their grilled salmon, served with a side of steamed vegetables and white rice (Dhs125). Come teatime, settle into the dainty Lobby Lounge, a café-style corner especially popular with out-of-house clientele. You can enjoy
treats like the chocolate mousse cake (Dhs45), as well as a host of other sweet indulgences. Turquoise, on the lower ground level, serves a generous dinner buffet (Dhs240, soft drinks) with an endless selection of sushi, cheese boards, mezze, breads and Italian delights to choose from. When you’re ready for a late night beverage, swing by AntiDote, where skilled barmen will perform the latest trick up their sleeve while serving you custom cocktails.
You’re spoiled for choice here with an abundance of options, and whether you’re travelling for business, pleasure or a little bit of both, the Rixos has you covered. Enjoy a heap of options including an outdoor swimming pool, beachside tanning beds, a garden, shuttle services to the city, and more.
A one-night stay for two at the Rixos Marina’s Premium Room with a corniche view starts from Dhs1,000, including breakfast.
