BUSY FALL AT THE HALL FALL AT THE HALL
It’s another jam-packed schedule for the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame as we say goodbye to summer inductees! We will also present our latest Elite 11 honorees for their contribu ons to the sport of football.
With the Price Cu er Charity Championship in the rear view mirror, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame staff is gearing up for a busy fall season. Here’s what on tap:
Spor ng Clays
Friday, Sept. 8 • Ozark Shooters Sports Complex
Presented by Killian Construc on and sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Spor ng Clays is Springfield’s premier shoo ng event. The event features morning and a ernoon rounds, with a con nental breakfast served in the morning and lunch in the a ernoon.
Sign up as a foursome ($500) or an individual ($150).
Shooters will take 100 shots from different sta ons, and team totals will be tallied at the end of the round.
Trophies will be awarded to the 1st place team in three flights, with a trophy for best overall score of the round. Each par cipant will receive a gi package which includes logoed apparel and a team photo. You’ll want to make sure and par cipate in our raffle as well, featuring prizes every shooter will appreciate.
Hall of Fame Fall Sports Luncheon
Wed., Oct. 18 • University Plaza
Presented by Ozarks Coca-Cola Dr Pepper Bo ling Company, the Fall Sports Luncheon will feature a new round of Missouri Sports Hall of Fame
Individual ckets are $60 and a table of eight is $450. Join us from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as the Hall welcomes more members to the Class of 2023!
St. Louis Enshrinement
Sun., Nov. 19 • Chase Park Plaza Presented by Great Southern Bank, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame returns to St. Louis for the first me since 2021 for its annual fall enshrinement.
While the class won’t be announced un l mid-September, you’ll want to make plans now to a end. Individual ckets are $150 while a table of 10 is $1,500. Associate sponsorships are s ll available.
On top of all that, we’re s ll hos ng several PCCC-related events such as the Harvest Moon Fes val (Sept. 17), Pla num Clubs & Clays (Oct. 3-4), Children’s Smile Center Poker Run (Oct. 8), and the Rockin’ Roll Bike and Music Fes val (Oct. 14).

Harvest Moon Festival Coming Up!
The annual Harvest Moon Fes val presented by SGC Foodservice takes place on Sunday, Sept. 17 at Oasis Hotel and Conven on Center.
The top chefs from around Springfield will be on hand with new crea ons and old favorites for everyone as part of this incredible culinary fes val.

Cayleigh interned at the Hall during the summer and the 2023 graduate of Evangel joined our staff shortly a er the conclusion of the Price Cu er Charity Championship.

Springfield na ve and former Major League Baseball pitcher George Frazier died on June 19 in Tulsa a er a brief illness. A member of Hilcrest High School’s baseball program (MSHOF 2014), Frazier also spent 18 seasons as a broadcaster with the Colorado Rockies before his re rement from the booth in 2015.
Frazier played parts of 10 big league seasons with five clubs. He appeared in the 1981 World Series with the New York Yankees, helped the Chicago Cubs win their first division tle in 1984 and became a World Series champion with the 1987 Minnesota Twins. He had a 4.20 ERA with 35 wins and 29 saves in 415 major league appearances.
In college, Frazier pitched two seasons at Oklahoma. He played on College World Series teams in 1975 and 1976 and was 12-4 with eight saves and a 2.62 ERA. He was dra ed in the ninth round of the 1976 MLB Dra by the Milwaukee Brewers. A er a trade, he made his Major League debut in 1978 for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Former high school basketball coach and 1997 Missouri Sports Hall of Fame inductee Carroll Cookson died on May 1. He was 88.
Cookson’s basketball career began when a young coach by the name of Arnold Ryan moved to the community of Puxico where Carroll was born and introduced the Cookson boys to the game. A love for this game was ins lled in Carroll who, along with his teammates, brought two state championships to
Puxico in 1951 and 1952.
He coached in Arkansas and Missouri and accumulated an impressive record of success, which includes state championships at Advance, Missouri in 1972 and 1975, a state runner-up in 1973, a state fourth-place finish in 1974, seven sec onal championships and numerous district championships.
Throughout his years of coaching, he received regional, district and conference Coach of the Year numerous mes. His career record is 524-128.
Long me NFL coach and 2009 Missouri Sports Hall of Fame inductee Vince Tobin passed away on July 3 in Goodyear, Ariz. He was 79.
A graduate of the University of Missouri and a former assistant coach for the Tigers, Tobin was one of the NFL’s top defensive minds for the be er part of three decades. A er spending three seasons (1983-85) as the defensive coordinator for the Bal more/Philadelphia Stars of the USFL, Tobin spent seven seasons as the defensive coordinator of the NFL’s Chicago Bears. He then the 1994-95 seasons in a similar role with the Indianapolis Colts.
In 1996, the Burlington Junc on na ve was hired as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals in what would prove to be his only head coaching opportunity. In 1998, he led the Cardinals to a 9-7 record and the franchise’s first playoff victory in 50 years.
Following his me in Arizona, Tobin spent one season (2001) with the Detroit Lions and another year (2004) with the Green Bay Packers.
Hall of Fame Spotlight On....
DAN ROLFES
Incarnate Word Academy girls basketball head coach Dan Rolfes (MSHOF 2018) added another significant accomplishment to his already impressive resume earlier this summer when he coached the USA Basketball U16 team to a FIBA Americas championship.
Rolfes led the Americans to a perfect 6-0 record in Merida, Mexico, winning games by an average of be er than 30 points per game. The United States defeated Canada, 79-59, in the gold medal game on June 19.
As for his day job, Rolfes and Incarnate Word Academy rolled to their sixth consecuve Class 6 state tle back in March with a 57-30 win against Rock Bridge. The championship victory was the 100th straight win overall for the Red Knights. Incarnate Word hasn’t lost since Feb. 8, 2020.
Overall, Rolfes has coached 12 state champions at Incarnate Word Academy, winning state tles in 2006, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
