News JCB gives Fastrac new power boost button
Go on... give it a boost. Clever engine management system on the Fastrac 3230 Xtra gives you a little extra horsepower when you need it most.
UPGRADED versions of the Fastrac 3000 series tractor with new transmission features and a ‘power boost’ function have been unveiled by JCB. Power outputs of the 3200 Xtra and 3230 Xtra are unchanged at 198hp and 230hp respectively; but for heavy hauling duties, engine power management makes up to 230hp available for the 3200 Xtra and 270hp for the 3230 Xtra. Operators can choose whether or not to use the boost to the tractors’ 7.4 litre sixcylinder engine.
“Transport power management on all other tractors engages automatically,” said Edward Roach. “That raises performance but uses more fuel; with the JCB system, the operator can exploit the boost performance when towing a heavy load but save fuel by disengaging boost for the less demanding empty return journey.” As part of the Tier 4 Final upgrade package, the Fastrac 3200 Xtra and 3230 Xtra also get some useful control function enhancements – and a new look, with distinctive yellow painted wheel rims and
new ‘Xtra’ decals on both sides of the cab roof. A number of control enhancements are introduced for the JCB P-TRONIC semipowershift transmission, which is set up via the touch screen display and operated using a seat-mounted multi-function joystick. There are 24 forward speeds with six powershift steps in each of four ranges, and nine speeds in reverse; with the Xtra Drive feature, the operator can stop the tractor and move off again using just the brake pedal.
