CAMPAIGNING couple Tracey and Tim Clarke have called on waterways bodies and town planners to put equal access for everyone at the top of their agendas.
The plea – from the Accessible Waterways Association they set up – comes after permission was granted for a new bridge spanning the Erewash Canal, despite the AWA’s view that a stepped route to and

WEST Midlands canal water had to be tested for sodium cyanide after a toxic spillage. Walsall Council was alerted about the spillage into the canal at Pleck. People were advised against eating fish caught from the canal and to avoid the canal and towpaths from Walsall lock flight to the lock flights at Rushall/Ryders Green and Perry Barr. from the canal towpath is discriminatory. Erewash Borough Council has given the formal go-ahead to replace an ageing structure dating back to 1913 with the new steel bridge to link the

A PROPOSAL for towpath upgrades along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal has been under the spotlight during an online public consultation. The scheme is expected to cost about £1.8 million. It involves widening the towpath where possible, improving its surface, adding new signs and removing any unnecessary access barriers. While the opportunity to give online feedback has closed, information about the project and details of the proposals are on the Canal & River Trust website: www.canalrivertrust.org.uk/kildwick-silsden

A giant loop-de-loop steel narrowboat artwork is being built, measuring 13m long and 6m high, that incorporates signwriting and traditional canal boat colours to celebrate the history of Tinsley, Sheffield’s historic waterways and industrial heritage. This is the first artwork on water by British artist Alex Chinneck. It will be installed mid-September and positioned between locks 4 and 5 of Sheffield & Tinsley Canal, enabling the work to be viewed from 180 degrees by passing narrowboats and from the towpath.
