Barnum Circus Founder Connection, Circa 1890’s. Dial marked “For Private Label, Nathan Seeley, New York.”. Inside cover engraved with presentation, “Herbert Barnum Seeley LOT - 1269 from Grand Papa”. Herbert Barnhum Seeley was the grandson of P. T. Barnum. The watch was presumably gifted from P. T. Barnum, as per engraved presentation. Grandpa Barnum, Circus entrepreneur, had of course been one of the creators of the “The Greatest Show on Earth”, Barnum & Bailey Circus. Back cover with blue enameled monogram “N. S.”, crest featuring dog and motto in Latin, “Fac et Spera”, which translates to “Do and Hope”, which is the Matheson family clan motto, to which Seeley was directly related.
