Karl to play Gomez Addams After making many a ‘dad joke’ Karl McNamara has finally graduated to play a father on stage in the fabulously kooky and spooky ‘The Addams Family’, for a limited season at Frankston Arts Centre. And Karl says he is revelling in the fabulous role of Gomez Addams. Gomez will do anything to maintain a happy household and is infatuated with the stunning Morticia, but must also keep his beautiful daughter Wednesday happy as well. He must keep no secrets, but keep the women in his life happy! Karl adds this role to a long list of roles, including Mark in ‘Altar Boyz’, Glen Gulia in ‘Wedding Singer’ and Jonny Waner in ‘Zombie Prom’. Karl’s passion for theatre has also seen him direct many show across Melbourne. By day, Karl teaches drama and media studies as Glen Waverley Secondary College, where he has directed many Music Theatre Guild of Victoria Award-winning productions. The Addams Family is based on the iconic characters by legendary cartoonist Charles Addams, which was transformed into a TV show and a series of films.

But in this musical, the plot is based around young Wednesday Addams suddenly becoming a woman and falling in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. When Wednesday, the princess of darkness, is found to have a ‘normal’ boyfriend though, her parents Gomez and Morticia are not happy to say the least. Karl is enjoying the rehearsals and the process of bringing the character of Gomez to life, relishing in the humour of the role as well as the beautiful drama of a husband pulled in many directions. The season opens with a family friendly performance at 5pm on New Year’s Eve and continues for a limited season. Don’t miss the chance to see this all new and kooky and spooky musical when PLOS Musical Productions brings it to the Frankston stage. Tickets at www.plos.asn.au or 9784 1060.
