The Writers Series continued into its seventh year with a visit from XU XI, an Indonesian-Chinese author renowned for her works on identity and belonging within Hong Kong society. Xu Xi’s work is informed by her childhood spent in Tsim Sha Tsui, living near Chungking Mansion’s multicultural community and growing up in an English-speaking Indonesian family. During the talk, Xu Xi shared her opinions about the changes Hong Kong has undergone over the last few decades, and read excerpts from two of her works, Dear Hong Kong and Insignificance.
The Peer Mentoring Programme (PMP) wrapped up another successful term in November 2018 with its largest number of participants ever (16 mentors, 49 mentees). Designed and delivered by College Member Dr. YVONNE LOONG, the PMP prepares senior students to provide guidance and support to incoming first-year students.
Students also ventured off campus with the Junior Fellows to enjoy performances of Shakespeare and The Great Gatsby, to view Art Basel, and enjoy various concerts throughout the year. The Junior Fellows also coordinated the weekly Film Club on Wednesday evenings for those who needed a break from studying.
