I would like to thank you for taking some time off to read yet another edition of our newsletter.

This edition covers our activities in September, October, November and December.

We are delighted to share with you our stories, and what plans we have for the future. In this issue there is an entire page dedicated to our Rotaractors- this is in an effort towards motivating other members of the club to be an inspiration.

A great many of our work has been in the area of membership growth; we have seen an exponential increase in our numbers in the last couple of months. We will continue working in this path as this has to be the untimate goal of being a part of the Rotary family.

In the last century, The Rotary Foundation has spent billions of dollars on life-transforming and sustainable projects. This year, we encouraged our members to donate to the foundation, especially in the area of polio eradication.

Also in this issue, the District Governor and District Rotaract Representative made official visits to the country- Always an exciting time connecting leaders!

DRR's Message Dear friends, It is with great emotion and joy that we marked the previous tenure, the transition from inspiration to connection.

We have a mission, a duty, that is TO SERVE. In carrying out this task, we are all unanimous on the fact that our greatest strength comes from our team, our relationship, our friendship, our family, in other words our MEMBERSHIP. The question of membership brings us back to two challenges: How to refer people to our clubs (Recruitment) How to prevent them from leaving (Retention) This year of connection gives us the opportunity to attract to our clubs, members who embrace the values and principles of ROTARY, to create links with people of various origins, of various classifications. To build strong and rich clubs by the diversities of their membership. To open our clubs to the different perspectives offered by ROTARY by leaving to everyone the possibilities to create a strong and reliable network in the world.

Connecting to the world will mean for us during this year to open the doors of our clubs and our hearts to all people wishing to give or receive from us and with us.

I urge you to keep in mind the words of Rotary International President Mark Maloney who say that: Developing Rotary means taking the steps that make our organization unique in the world, to strengthen and multiply them. Let us commit to developing Rotary and welcoming the next generation of women and men to a Rotary that connects the world.

Mandate 2019-2020

Index Board Meeting Considering that not all members can attend the Rotaract District 9101 Training, Conference and Assembly the Club President deem it fit that the entire board be trained and enlightened about their positions.

We had our first board meeting and leadership training for board officers on 3rd August 2019, IPP Alpha M. L. Alghali encouraged board members of how best they should connect with the community and share the message of Rotary International President. Board members discussed the way forward for the club as to the 2019-20 Rotary Year.

2018 RI Citation

At the meeting of presenting the Rotary International Citation with Platinum Distinction. Rtr Ebunoluwa Tengbe who holds an LLB and LLM, a Past President of Rotaract Club of Mount Aureol and also the Vice President of Femme Collective, spoke about Rotary and women affairs and how we can connect the dots as to how increased participation and recognition of women can help Rotary achieve its goals".

Our meeting was also graced by four members of our Rotary Club of Freetown our Club's partner Past Assistant Governor Adonis Aboud, Immediate Past President Lara Taylor-Pearce, New Generations Chair Hawa Samai and Rtn Ulreen Turay, all from Rotary Club of Freetown.

Immediate Past President Lara Taylor-Pearce Presented the Rotary Citation with Platinum Distinction to Immediate Past President Alpha M. L. Alghali. The citation was achieved by our club for the 2018-2019 year. It was a wonderful meeting as members bonded well and enjoyed a good meal.

Connecting Leaders

The Assistant Governor of Sierra Leone Rtn Christian Martyn Kamara, visited our Club, he commended us for the work we were doing and that we continue with that, he also explained that our District 9101 is geographically large with 10 Countries and sometimes sharing message is not an easy task, he also spoke about the District Governor's plan for the 2019-20 year.

Rtr. Haalalo Allen joined Rotaract Scheveningen, District 1600 in the Netherlands together with a member of Rotaract Club Berlin in Germany where they met with members and hangout after the meeting. The same club also happened to be the club of the District Rotaract Representative Froukje Zandvliet of District 1600 one out of the 6 Districts in the Netherlands. Halalo was accompanied by Nabryn Koroma member of the Rotaract Club of the Hague International. (1) Our Club President Morie and Club Membership Administrator Rakie had an eat out with Past Assistant Governor Gertrude Adzo Akpalu from Ghana, District 9102. Rtn Adzo and Rtr Rakie first met at the 2019 Rotary International Convention in Hamburg, Germany. (2) Our friend Franklin E. Akporhe PHF the Immediate Past President of Rotaract Club of Sinkor Liberia, visited Sierra Leone, he was joined by Rtr President Morie at the Meeting of Rotaract Club of Freetown Sunset. (3) Our Project Service Director Prince Dal Greene, spent a weekend in Guinea he also used the opportunity to pay visits to Rotaract Club of Conakry Camayenne and Rotaract Club of Conakry Ratoma. (4)

After receiving and welcoming Rotaract District 9101, District Rotaract Representative Aminata Kabore at the Sea Coach Express Sierra-Leone Terminal, we went to the Crown Xpress to pick up some snacks. We later headed to Hamilton Beach and watched the sun setting as well as having dinner and chatting over drinks at the Consulate General of Serbia in Sierra Leone.

On the second day of her visit she was given a tour of Eastern Freetown as well as visits to Sierra Leone Museum, Big Market, Fourah Bay College and Leicester Peak. Later in the day the DRR had a National meeting and conference for all the Rotaract and Interact Clubs in Sierra Leone, where all current presidents made their presentation as well as the DRR making her recommendations and giving advice.

On the third day of her visit she was given a tour in western Freetown, attended the meeting of Rotary Club of Freetown Sunset and had a social evening with Rotaractors.

On her final day she attended the meeting of Rotary Club of Freetown and left Sierra Leone to depart Gambia for the remainder of her District duties and visits.

The District Governor in Freetown Our District Governor Thomas Somè of District 9101 paid a visit to Sierra Leone, where he met with Rotaractors and Interactors of Sierra Leone, It was a beautiful moment as he shared valuable leadership experiences and his admiration for the Interact Clubs in Sierra Leone he also presented a certificate to our Club President in recognition of our members' donation to The Rotary Foundation

Basic Education and Literacy Month

On the 29th September 2019, Rotaract Club of Mount Aureol visited the Raining Season Orphanage in commemoration of Rotary International's Basic Education and Literacy Month.

We were warmly welcomed by the kids that showed so much zest during the time we spent with them. According to the United Nations, even after 3 or 4 years of primary schooling, as many as 250 million children cannot read and write. One key reason for this is the unavailability of learning materials.

Rotaract Club of Mount Aureol took up the challenge of putting together learning materials for children aged 5-16 years; from prescribed texts to literatures, to encyclopedias and books on talent nurturing as well as pencils, crayons, sharpeners and erasers. Sanitary pads and toiletries were also donated by few members.

Talks were given by President Morie, IPDRRD Jehu and other members of the club, ranging from personal hygiene, healthy lifestyle, education and the need to be great readers.

We then formed three groups which were reading, arts and crafts, music and dancing as these are all ways the children can learn. All three groups facilitated by Rotaractors of the club had productive outcomes.

Visit of The DRRD

Our DRRD (National Coordinator) of Sierra Leone Rtr Samuel Dixon made his first official visit to the club, he spoke to us about the Rotaract and Interact Sierra Leone (National Office for Rotaract and Interact) the administrative role and plans for the 2019-20 year. He explained to Rotaractors that he is a Representative for the District Rotaract Representative (DRR) in Sierra Leone and he is tasked with helping clubs and delivering messages to and from the Disrict.

World Polio Day

World Polio Day, Polio is a deadly virus which paralyzed and killed over 350,000 people 50 years ago, Rotary has taken strides to eradicate polio worldwide. As at now we are 99.9% close to eradicating polio. We therefore share Rotary's effort towards eradicating polio and also to pass on the message that all children must be vaccinated, members of our club also donate to the Rotary Foundation to end polio

RCMA and Breast Cancer October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

On that note as partners we joined The Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation at the Marathon stakeholders meeting. Our team of resilient and dedicated Rotaractors engaged in mass sensitization and free breast screening with the the Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation they visited schools, communities and marketplaces. On the final action we joined the Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation for the 6th Edition of the Freetown Half Marathon which is geared towards raising funds for Breast Cancer victims.

Past Rotary International President Lusi Vicente Giay, at the 1996 Rotary International Convention, said “Our vision for the future, now more than ever, is the difference between success and failure. The New Generations are our investment in the future. Let us begin to build that future today.�

Our IPP Alpha was the Guest speaker at the meeting of our sponsoring-partnering Rotary Club of Freetown. He explained to Rotarians that New Generations are valuable investments, Rotary Club of Freetown had its first new generation clubs in 1973 (Interact Club of Sierra Leone Grammar School) and 1979 (Rotaract Club of Fourah Bay College) both went defunct during the war. He emphasized that the cooperation between the Rotary Club and its sponsors is key towards sustaining the New Generations.

Our Administrative Director Ngadie Keifala joined the Webinar Session "We Are Rotary: Advancing Women As Leaders organized by Rotary International and she received a certificate for her participation in the training. Rotary is taking actions to encourage women to serve in leadership positions at the Club, District and Rotary International level. At our club we are also encouraging the ladies to take active role in the day to day running of the club.

Meet Emmmanuel Sahr-Joe Pewa, he was born in Freetown Sierra Leone on 1st November to Kono Parents, attended Nursery and Primary at King Harman Preparatory School, before moving on to Secondary School at The Sierra Leone Grammar School where He obtained his West African Secondary School Certificate, he then proceeded to Institute of Public Admimistration and Management, USL where he studied and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting. He worked for various Institutions such as The Sierra Leone Commercial Bank on contract and West African Examination Council.

He was once an Interactor at his Secondary School, Sierra Leone Grammar School were he served as treasurer of the Interact Club. After Secondary School he then joined Rotaract Club of Mount Aureol after attending the Club's meeting in 2018, he is currently serving as Leadership Director, one of his duties are to supervise, assist and guide five Interact clubs which he performs as expected. He is also a Scout Leader of the 1st Freetown Group (Sierra Leone Grammar School), and 112th Freetown Group (Limount College). Because of Rtr Sahr Pewa's hardwork and valuable contribution he was elected as the Secretary Elect and Leadership Director Elect of our Club.

The hobbies of this fine gentleman are sports, working with technology, and listening to music, he is however a terrible dancer. He is passionate about giving back to the community in ways that he can.
