At Ysgol Morgan Llwyd we take pride in our pupils’ academic success as well as in their successes in the school’s extracurricular life. At this point in their education, the academic expectation will become more demanding with every year, but there is a team of dedicated and experienced staff to support and guide you as you continue your journey with us to Year 11, and hopefully the Sixth Form. The excellent relationship that exists between staff and pupils, the support we are able to offer both pupils and parents/guardians through our Pastoral Hub, and the support our pupils offer each other are invaluable throughout this journey.

We value the close partnership between the school and parents/guardians and we encourage you to contact us at any time should you need to. Our transition programme includes an Open Evening as well as a drop-in information evening, which affords you the opportunity to ask any questions, or discuss any concerns, you might have. Dwi’n edrych ymlaen yn anferthol i’ch croesawu chi yma ar gyfer dechrau eich amser yn yr ysgol uwchradd, cyfnod o amser dwi’n sicr fydd yr amser gorau yn eich bywydau! Fy enw i yw Mr Sion Davies ac rwy’n Athro Dyniaethau yn ogystal â Phennaeth Blwyddyn. Rwyf hefyd yn gyn-ddisgybl yn Ysgol Morgan Llwyd felly dwi’n gwybod yn union sut beth yw bod yn eich esgidiau chi! Mae fy niddordebau yn cynnwys chwaraeon o bob math, yn enwedig pêl-droed a mynd i'r ystafell ffitrwydd. Rwy'n gefnogwr enfawr o Glwb Pêl-Droed Lerpwl a Chlwb PêlDroed Wrecsam. Mae cyfnod symud i’r ysgol uwchradd yn brofiad cyffrous i bob disgybl ond hefyd efallai fod rhai ohonoch yn teimlo pethau sy’n wahanol i hyn… Efallai eich bod yn edrych ymlaen, efallai eich bod yn nerfus, efallai eich bod yn poeni neu efallai na fedrwch chi ddisgwyl i ddechrau mewn ysgol newydd. Mae un peth yn sicr yn Morgan Llwyd – Mae gan BOB disgybl yr hawl i ddysgu, yr hawl i fod yn ddiogel a’r hawl i fwynhau felly byddwn ni fel ysgol yn gwneud popeth y gallwn i wneud eich profiad yn un gwych. Hello everyone and welcome to Year 7 at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd!

I am looking forward to welcoming you all here for your time at high school, a period which I’m sure will be the best time of your life! My name is Mr Siôn Peter Davies and I am a Humanities Teacher and a Head of Year. I am also a former pupil at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd so I know exactly what it’s like to be in your shoes! My interests include sports of all types, especially football and going to the gym. I am a massive Liverpool FC and Wrexham AFC fan.

If you ever have the need to speak to me in school, it’s likely that I’ll be in the Humanities Department or in the Pastoral Hub… You are welcome there anytime at all!

Moving to Secondary School is a very exciting experience for all pupils, however some of you might be experiencing feelings that are different to this… You might be looking forward to it, you might be nervous, you might be worried, or you might not be able to wait to start a new school. There is one thing that is certain at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd – EVERY pupil has the right to learn, the right to be safe in school and the right to enjoy so we, as a school, will do everything we can to make your experience a fantastic one. There will be opportunities for you experience lots of new subjects alongside meeting new members of staff and making new friends, I am confident that you’ll make the most of these opportunities. You might be eager to be in the choir or in the football team… There are all kinds of opportunities for all interests here, and I’m really looking forward to welcoming you all!

Polisi Iaith | Welsh Language Policy Mae disgwyl i bawb ddefnyddio’r Gymraeg ar bob achlysur o amgylch yr ysgol.

Mae hyn yn golygu mewn gwersi ac ymysg eich gilydd o amgylch y safle.

Un o reolau pwysicaf yr ysgol hon yw bod pob disgybl yn siarad Cymraeg gyda phob aelod o staff. Mae dewis peidio â gwneud hyn yn dangos diffyg cwrteisi a pharch.

Trwy siarad Cymraeg gymaint â phosibl byddwch yn parhau i ddatblygu dealltwriaeth ieithyddol, a bydd hyn yn eich helpu i gynnal safonau uchel yn eich gwaith, ac i lwyddo yn academaidd trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg.

All pupils must use the Welsh language at every opportunity whilst at school.

Welsh should always be the language spoken during lessons and you should always speak Welsh with your peers.

One of the school’s most important rules is that all pupils should speak Welsh with every member of staff. Refusing to do so shows a lack of courtesy and respect.

By speaking Welsh as often as possible, you will further develop your linguistic competence, and this will help you to maintain a high standard of work, and to achieve academically through the medium of Welsh.

THE PASTORAL SYSTEM The wellbeing of Ysgol Morgan Llwyd pupils is of utmost importance and a pastoral system is in place. Every morning your child will have a half hour session with his / her form tutor who will keep a very close eye on him / her and will come to know him / her very well. If there is something your child wishes to share (a success / experience / problem), he / she can do so with the tutor in the first instance.

If something crops up which the form tutor cannot resolve, you may contact the Head of Year two Heads, Mr Siôn Davies.

If it is necessary to discuss a matter further, Ms. Heddus Wyn is responsible for wellbeing and behaviour at the school, and Miss Katie Roberts is responsible for Additional Learning Needs. You are welcome to contact them. A copy of the Pupil Discipline Policy is available on the school’s website (www.ysgolmorganllwyd.cymru).

The Pastoral Hub As well as the usual pastoral arrangements, the school has a Pastoral Hub. The Hub is staffed by: • Heads of Year • Mrs Emma Jones, the Education Youth Worker; • Mrs Rhian Jones, the Pupil Support Officer; • Miss Hannah Mullock, the Pupil Support Classroom Assistant; • Ms Heddus Wyn, Assistant Headteacher (wellbeing and behaviour).

Pupils may use The Hub if: • They are late arriving at school; • They feel ill; • They have a problem regarding uniform or equipment; • They need to make an appointment to talk to a member of staff about a problem; • They are having one to one or group support sessions; • They need time out for 10 minutes.

Mae PAWB angen help i lwyddo’n academaidd ac i ddeall gwaith ysgol. Dyma pam sefydlwyd Hwb Dysgu Ysgol Morgan Llwyd.

Mae’r Hwb Dysgu ac Addysgu yn ganolfan sy’n cefnogi profiadau dysgu disgyblion ac sy’n darparu cyfleoedd iddynt feithrin, magu ac atgyfnerthu sgiliau i’w helpu i wneud y gorau o’u haddysg. Rydym yn sicrhau bod POB DISGYBL yn cael cyfleoedd pwrpasol ychwanegol i gyrraedd eu potensial llawn.

Mae Estyn wedi nodi bod gwaith Hwb Dysgu a Hwb Bugeiliol Ysgol Morgan Llwyd yn enghraifft o “Arfer Effeithiol” ac maent wedi cyhoeddi adroddiad am yr arfer effeithiol hon yma: Cefnogi datblygiad dysgu a lles disgyblion drwy gymorth Hwb Bugeiliol a Hwb Dysgu | Estyn (llyw.cymru) .

The Teaching and Learning Hub

EVERYONE needs help with their SCHOOL WORK every now and then. This is why we established the LEARNING HUB at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd. Our mission is to ensure that EVERY PUPIL can access extra help to acquire the skills needed to reach their full potential.

The Teaching and Learning Hub supports our pupils' existing learning experiences and provides our learners with opportunities to foster and consolidate the skills needed to make the most of their education. We can – and do – organise and implement bespoke academic support to help our pupils to fulfil their academic goals.

We offer: ✓ Mentoring sessions for pupils of all ages and ability to gain a better understanding of their work; ✓ "Catch up" sessions for pupils who have been absent from school; ✓ Workshops and resources to help pupils to develop new skills, including how to revise for external exams; ✓ Seren Network/MAT activities; ✓ Opportunities for pupils to contribute to the Learning Hub's work by becoming a Learning Mentor; ✓ Resources to help pupils stay positive and resilient during periods when schoolwork is particularly difficult. ✓ Breaktime and lunchtime clubs, e.g. Chess Club, Languages Club, Acting Club, Reading Club, Rubik’s Cube Club, Creative Writing Club, Crochet Club, and many more… ✓ A large, quiet, comfortable, modern space in which to work as well as seven glass “pods” that are ideal spaces for independent work, workshops and meetings.

In order to ensure everyone’s happiness, and to show respect and responsibility to yourself, your family, your teacher and your peers, every pupil must follow these simple classroom rules.

Presenoldeb Mae presenoldeb a phrydlondeb da yn allweddol bwysig er mwyn sicrhau llwyddiant academaidd yn Ysgol Morgan Llwyd.

Mae yna gysylltiad amlwg rhwng presenoldeb da a llwyddiant academaidd da. Yn yr un modd, mae’r cysylltiad rhwng presenoldeb gwael a pherfformiad academaidd gwael yr un mor amlwg. O’r disgyblion sydd â phresenoldeb sy’n is na 50%, dim ond 3% sy’n llwyddo i ennill 5 neu fwy o raddau TGAU A*-C, gan gynnwys Mathemateg a Chymraeg/Saesneg. Ar y llaw arall, mae gan y rhan fwyaf o

ddisgyblion sy’n ennill 5 neu fwy o raddau TGAU A*-C bresenoldeb o 95% neu uwch.

ABSENOLDEBAU CYSON Os caiff disgybl naill ai dri chyfnod o absenoldeb mewn un hanner tymor neu ddau gyfnod o absenoldeb o 5 diwrnod neu fwy, bydd yr ysgol yn eich llythyru i’ch annog i wella’r presenoldeb, ac i gynnig help. Os na fydd y sefyllfa’n gwella, bydd camau pellach yn cael eu cymryd, gan gynnwys cyfarfod gyda’r Pennaeth Blwyddyn, Pennaeth Cynorthwyol Bugeiliol a/neu’r Brifathrawes. Bydd achosion o absenoldeb difrifol parhaus yn cael eu cyfeirio at Swyddog Lles y Cyngor Sir.

SALWCH | CANIATÂD I FOD YN ABSENNOL Wrth gwrs, mae yna achosion pan fydd eich plentyn angen aros adref oherwydd salwch. Os mae eich plentyn yn sâl, ffoniwch (01978) 315050 a gadewch neges yn rhoi enw eich plentyn, dosbarth cofrestru a rheswm byr dros absenoldeb. Ffoniwch bob bore yn ystod cyfnod y salwch, os gwelwch yn dda.

Wedi cyfnod o absenoldeb, anfonwch nodyn wedi ei arwyddo gennych yn eglusro absenoldeb eich plentyn. Mae angen nodyn hyd yn oed os rydych chi wedi ffonio’r ysgol.

Gwnewch apwyntiadau gyda’r meddyg/deintydd y tu allan i oriau’r ysgol, pan fo hynny’n bosibl.

Os rydych chi angen caniatâd i’ch plentyn fod yn absennol o’r ysgol am unrhyw reswm arall (e.e. priodas teuluol, gwyliau, ayyb), mae angen i chi lenwi ffurflen wyliau. Mae’r ffurflen hon ar gael o swyddfa’r ysgol.

Attendance Good attendance and punctuality are key factors in ensuring academic success at Ysgol Morgan Llwyd.

There is a clear link between good attendance at school and good academic achievement. The link between poor attendance and lower academic performance is also very clear. Of pupils who have an attendance record of less than 50% only 3% manage to achieve 5 or more GCSEs at grades A*-C, including Maths and Welsh/English. On the other hand, most pupils who achieve 5 or more GCSEs results at A*-C grades are present at school at least 95% of the time.

Put simply, if your child is not present at school he/she cannot make progress. We therefore ask you to ensure your child attends school every day, and is punctual, unless he/she is unwell. We also politely request that you strive to avoid organising family holidays during term time.

POOR ATTENDANCE If a pupil has 3 periods of absence, or 2 long periods (5 or more days each time), within the same half term, the school will send a letter home urging you to improve your child’s attendance, and to offer any help you may need. If the situation persists, further steps will be taken by the school. These steps may include meetings with the Head of Year, the Pastoral Assistant Headteacher and/or the Headteacher. Serious and persistent absenteeism will be referred to the County Council’s School Welfare Officer.

ILLNESS | PERMISSION FOR ABSENCE Of course, if your child is unwell and needs to convalesce at home, please phone the school on (01978) 315050, and leave a message stating the name of your child, his/her registration class, and a brief reason for the absence. Please ring on each morning of absence.

Following a period of absence, please send a signed note explaining your child’s absence from school. A note is needed even if you have already called the school.

Whenever possible, please make all appointments to see the doctor or the dentist out of school hours.

If you require permission for your child to be absent from school for any other reason (e.g. family wedding, holiday, etc) you will be required to fill out a Holiday Form. This form is available from the school office.

Mae’r rheolau’n berthnasol i bob disgybl ym Mlynyddoedd 7-11.

Mae gwisg ysgol yn gosod ethos ac hinsawdd gwaith i helpu ein disgyblion i ffocysu ar ddysgu. Gallwch fod yn falch o fod yn aelod llawn o Ysgol Morgan Llwyd trwy wisgo’r wisg ysgol.

Mae gwisg ysgol yn rhan bwysig o’n hunaniaeth. Mae pob disgybl sydd wedi ymuno gyda’r ysgol wedi gwneud hyn yn gwybod bod rheolau gwisg ysgol yn bodoli, a bydd disgwyl iddynt ddilyn y rheolau trwy wisgo’r wisg ysgol yn daclus a chyda balchder.

Mae’r polisi yn cael ei adolygu’n rheolaidd trwy ymgynghori â disgyblion, rhieni, staff a’r Llywodraethwyr. Bydd disgyblion sy’n gwrthod dilyn y rheolau yn derbyn cosb yn unol â’r Llwybr Cosbau Gwisg Ysgol (sydd wedi ei lunio trwy ymgynghori gyda disgyblion). Byddwn yn gweithio mewn partneriaeth â rhieni er mwyn datrus unrhyw broblemau sy’n codi. Mae eithriadau i’r wisg ysgol yn digwydd yn ôl disgresiwn y Pennaeth yn unig. Cotiau. Dylai rhain fod yn addas ar gyfer yr ysgol, h.y. dylent fod yn rhai cynnes sy’n dal dŵr. Caniateir i gotiau gael eu gwisgo yn y coridor ond mae disgwyl iddynt gael eu tynnu cyn mynd i ddosbarth, y ffreutur a’r llyfrgell. Ni chaniateir siacedi denim|lledr.

Tlysau. Am resymau iechyd a diogelwch, a’r posibilrwydd o golli eiddo, ni chaniateir i ddisgyblion wisgo dim mwy nag un pâr o stydiau clust, i’w gwisgo ar waelod y glust yn unig. Ni chaniateir tlysau mewn unrhyw ran arall o’r corff. Gall disgyblion wisgo oriawr. Caniateir i ddisgyblion wisgo un fodrwy ar bob llaw.

Gwallt. Dylai fod yn lân ac yn daclus. Dylai gwallt byr fod o leiaf Gradd 2. Ni chaniateir patrymau wedi eu siafio yn y gwallt, lliw gwallt nad yw’n naturiol, dip dye na phaderau (beads).

Colur. Caniateir colur naturiol yr olwg (h.y. na ellir sylwi arno). Bydd disgwyl i ddisgybl sy’n gwisgo colur amlwg, sy’n sefyll allan, ei dynnu. Ni chaniateir amrannau ffug.

Gewinedd. Ni ddylai gewinedd fod yn rhy hir. Caniateir i ddisgyblion wisgo paent diliw. Ni chaniateir gewinedd ffug na phaent lliw.

Addysg Gorfforol. Dylai disgyblion ddilyn gofynion yr Adran ynghylch gwisg.

School Uniform Policy Introduction At Ysgol Morgan Llwyd there are high expectations regarding school uniform.

The rules apply to all pupils in Years 7-11.

The school uniform helps to maintain a working environment amongst our pupils so that they can focus on learning. Pupils who look smart in their Ysgol Morgan Llwyd uniform are proud members of the school.

School uniform is an important part of identity. Each pupil joining the school has done so knowing that there are rules regarding uniform and they are expected to follow these rules by wearing the uniform neatly and with pride.

The policy will be revised regularly by consulting pupils, parents, staff and governors. Pupils not adhering to the rules will be punished according to the school uniform punishment pathway (which has been produced in consultation with pupils). We will work in partnership with parents | carers in order to solve any issues which may arise. Exceptions to the uniform are at the sole discretion of the Headteacher; this includes special arrangements during hot weather.

The School Uniform Official tie with an average sized 4-5cm knot and with the tie reaching at least as far as the ribs.

Official jumper not to be tucked into trousers or skirts.

Black trousers. No jeans, leggings, jeggings, treggings, combat trousers (side pockets).

Plain black skirt to the knee. No Lycra, denim, velvet or silk shirts.

Plain white shirt. Long or short sleeves. Shirt must be tucked into trousers or skirt.

Plain black, white or grey socks or black/natural tights (if wearing a skirt).

Official school blazer (optional) Plain black shoes. Leather or PVC shoes. Due to health and safety considerations: no heels, canvas shoes, flip flops, open-toed shoes. Boots may be worn if they fit under trousers, but they should not be knee-high.

Coats. Coats should be appropriate for school, i.e. they should be warm and waterproof. They can be worn in the school’s corridors but they must be taken off before entering a classroom, the canteen or the library. No denim / leather jackets.

Jewellery. Due to health and safety considerations, and the potential loss of property, pupils will only be allowed to wear one pair of studs in the ear lobe. No other body piercings are allowed. Pupils may wear a watch f they so wish. Pupils may wear one ring on each hand.

Hair. Hair should be clean and tidy. Short hair should be at least a Grade 2. Patterns shaved into hair, hair colour that cannot be natural, dip-dye and beads are not acceptable.

Make-up. Discreet make-up is allowed. Pupils wearing obvious make-up will be asked to remove it. False eyelashes are not permitted.

Nails. Nails should not be too long. Pupils are allowed to wear clear nail varnish.

Neither coloured nail varnish nor false nails are permitted.

Physical Education. Pupils should follow the Department’s expectations regarding kit.

Trainers are required when using the all-weather pitch.

The Canteen CASHLESS TILL SYSTEM Ysgol Morgan Llwyd is a cashless school. We make use of ParentPay to enable you to make cashless payments for school dinners/school trips and products.

Payments can be made online at www.ParentPay.com or through the ‘PayPoint’ facilities located in local shops and post offices. Cash payments will no longer be accepted.

NEW TO PARENT PAY? 1. Go to www.parentpay.com 2. Type in the username and password provided in an activation letter, please be sure not to confuse the letter l (for Indigo) with the number one (1) and the number 0 (zero) with the letter O (for Oscar). The user details are case sensitive and for one-time use only. They will become invalid after the account has been activated.

3. Check the details are correct and enter the date of birth for your child and click confirm.

4. Follow the on-screen instructions to successfully activate the account.

You will need to enter the child’s name, an up-to-date email address and select a password for the account (your email address will become your username). Please read the ParentPay terms and conditions and click in the box to accept at the bottom of the page then click Activate account.

You can add multiple children to the same ParentPay account using the add a child button on your home page.

Add this address to your contacts in your email: platform@parentpay.com A verification email will then be sent to you the user. You will need to click on the link within the email to complete the process and access your account.

Free School Meals (FSM) If your child received free school meals at primary school, and if your circumstances have not changed (i.e. he/she is still eligible to receive FSM), the account will be transferred to Ysgol Morgan Llwyd automatically. You do not need to reapply.
