Leader Q&A: Q: What is your best tip to book parties?

A: Ask everyone, no matter what! If you have trouble remembering to ask, offer guests a gift! Say, “Ladies, you’ll see I have this cute thermal tote hanging from my arm, it’s here to remind me to ask you if we can party together this summer!

If I forget to ask, you get to keep this thermal!” Should you forget, I bet it will only happen once! Do this until asking everyone becomes a habit!

June! The start of summer. What an exciting time in your business. We have product premiere to give us a taste of what is to come in our Fall selling season. We reconnect with family and friends over a backyard BBQ. Maybe we travel and get some much needed R&R to get us ready for the fall. Conference to bring us together again in one big sisterhood of pink! Then the launch of our Fall season. One thing is for sure - we still have businesses to run. But rest assured, with careful planning, we will sail through with flying colors!

Taking the Party On the Road!

People are still spending money in the summer. You just need to think outside the box to get in front of them! Here are some tips to keep your business thriving throughout the summer months: • Host a Summer Bash – People like to kick back and relax when the summer gets warm. So offer a party! Host a summer bash that offers food, fun and music. It’s a great way to attract families, and encourages them to bring their friends which can potentially open you up to new business.

Post the flyer around town, as well as on local event websites, and sell tickets for the food (or team up with local restaurants to offer it.) It’s a great way to generate buzz and visibility for your business.

• Get a Booth at a Local Farmer’s Market – Farmer’s markets today offer much more than just produce, and many consumers look forward to shopping there weekly. Get a regular table at your local farmer’s market.

You can offer products for sale while also generating new interest in your business. And take time to talk to the other vendors there. Often a community develops among the regulars, and they may begin to refer other business to you, as well as telling you about other markets where you may do well.

• Offer Summer Workshops – During the summer, people often look for workshops, camps and other events for both themselves and their children.

Local communities offer weekly learning events. So think about how you can integrate this concept into your business.

What about hosting a weekly art day for kids. Work in conjunction with a local art teacher to put on the mini-camp.

While the kids are painting, you host a “Sit back and relax” for the moms where you can enjoy some refreshments and talk about - Thirty-One! The business you cultivate in summer can bring you income all year!

• Christmas in Summer – Chances are, the holidays are your most productive time of the year. So offer a “Christmas in Summer” event. Pull out those holiday decorations, and offer specials that help people begin their holiday shopping early (saving them stress!). Host a holiday-themed event and serve holiday cookies, play holiday music, and make the even light-hearted in fun. It can be a great way for people to beat the summer heat and shop at the same time.

• Take Your Business With You on Vacation – Are you going on vacation?

Don’t leave your business behind! Take along promotional items that talk about your business, and be sure to network with people you meet along the way.

When someone shares a need they have, be sure to share information about your business and have an intentional conversation with them. Have a potential recruit in the city you’re visiting - call ahead of time and offer to meet them for an ice cream or coffee. By planning ahead, you can develop some new business, and possibly even write off your trip as a business expense (check with your tax advisor on this!)

Summer doesn’t have to mean a drop in business. You simply need to look at your business differently, be flexible, and create opportunities that work with what people want to do!.

Routines relax, you make time for fun in the sun, maybe even take a trip. There is absolutely no reason not to take business (on a small scale) with you!

Tuck a few business cards into your wallet to take with you to breakfast. Throw one in your evening bag for that special night out.

How about a few opportunity brochures and catalogs for your beach bag!

Remember you are a walking billboard - so when you pack - use products that will be seen. Have a business card tucked away in a luggage pocket to hand over if someone asks the question - and you know they will!

Not saying you have to be “on your game” the whole time, but you never know! The girl sitting beside you at the pool all week - the one who’s kid is your kids new best friend - she just might be your next recruit or your next best customer.
