Welcome to Morehead History & Overview Morehead State University was originally established in 1887 as Morehead Normal School. In 1966 the school gained its university status and thus changed its name to Morehead State University. The university is home to around 10,000 students, faculty, and staff. Surrounded by the beautiful foothills Appalachian Mountains, Morehead State University offers countless opportunities for students and student-athletes to grow and thrive.

Mission Statement Morehead State University believes that Intercollegiate Athletics is an integral part of the University and that a broad-based intercollegiate athletics program encourages student participation and involvement in the total life of the University. In addition, intercollegiate athletic programs play a positive role by supporting the academic and public service missions of the University.

Transportation & Directions Morehead State University is located off of Interstate 64 an hour east of Lexington, KY. After taking exit 137 off of I-64, go Southeast on Highway 32. Take that all the way down to the last light where you will take a left on W Wilkinson Blvd. To get to the athletic fields, take a left on Playforth Place where you will see the Academic Athletic Center on your left. If going to the football, baseball, or softball stadium, continue up the hill to Jayne Stadium and Sonny Allen field on the right. Campus Map available on moreheadstate.edu 2


Morehead State Visitors Guide Locker Room Info

Athletic Training

Visitors Locker Rooms are readily available at the facilities for Football, Basketball (Men’s and Women’s), and Volleyball. Locker rooms can be provided as needed for showers. If your team is in need of a locker room, please contact Paul Rhodes (page 2).

The Athletic Training room is located next to Jayne Stadium. If the training room is necessary please contact Kyle Wolff or Jordan Kelley (page 2). Water and water cups will be provided to all visiting teams. Towels, ice bags, and biohazard materials will also be provided for practices and games. If you are not accompanied by a certified athletic trainer, contact us prior to your arrival so we can arrange to give appropriate care during practices and competitions.

Officials Officials are always assigned by the Ohio Valley Conference, unless stated otherwise in the contractual agreements.

Weight Room Accomodations The Phil Simms Weight Room is located next to Jayne Stadium across the field from the Athletic Training Room. If needed for a team workout, please contact Paul Rhodes (page 2) to set up a time and date for your team to use the facility. If we cannot provide a strength coach during a workout, you must be able to have a coach present for supervision. If you are visiting Morehead, for only $5, daily passes can be purchased at the MSU Rec Center located by Eagle Lake on the North side of campus.

Morehead State Visitors Guide Facilities John Sonny Allen Field

Sonny Allen Field features grandstands that can seat 1,000 fans. It also includes a home locker room, pitchers lab, coaches office, umpires locker room, and an indoor batting cage down the right field line. The unorthodox dimensions create a fun and exciting environment for players and fans.

Jayne Stadium

Jayne Stadium first opened in 1964 and seats 10,000 fans. The field features an astroturf playing surface as well as locker rooms, press boxes, and home and away grand stands. The athletic training room as well as the weight room are all located by Jayne Stadium.

Johnson Arena Johnson Arena has served as the home court for the Eagles since 1981. The arena seats 6,500. In 2012, two video boards were placed at both ends of the arena. Then in 2016, the court was completely rebranded, as well as the locker rooms being refurbished with new walls, lockers, and floors. It is home to the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams as well as our Volleyball team. Johnson Arena is also home to most athletic and media offices, and the cheerleading practice facility.

Fazoli’s Breadstick Beach

University field is home to the Eagles softball team. It is located behind Sonny Allen field in the northeast corner of the athletic facility. The facilty includes a small grandstand, two dugouts, a batting cage, and an electronic scoreboard.

Breadstick Beach is the newest Eagle facility. It holds 3 lighted sand volleyball courts. It also features a picnic table area for spectators and fans to watch the matches.

Button Range

Eagle Trace Golf Course

Button Range is located in the under level of Button Auditorium. It features state-of-the-art electronic targets and spots for the whole team to practice and shoot during matches.

Eagle Trace Golf Course is an 18-hole course with a par of 72 strokes. It is a bent grass course that features a short game facility, driving range, concession stand, and covered pavilion.

Morehead State Visitors Guide Complimentary Tickets If you are a visiting team & need to request complimentary visitors tickets, please fill out the form that was sent to the email of your Ticket manager. Your team will receive the form prior to your arrival and the form must be submitted to the Ticket Office prior to the game for the guest passes to be valid. Complimentary tickets will be given to oppsing teams in accordinance with NCAA rules or via contractual agreement. If you are a visitor or fan, please contact the Ticket office for ticket purchasing opportunities. All students can attend home MSU sporting events for free.

Press / Media The Athletic Media Relations Office is responsible for all media relations pertaining to athletics, including updating and maintaining the MSUEagles.com, all statistical and historical record-keeping. The office also handles the writing of press releases, including pre and post-game stories, and other sports copy such as biographies. Any media member covering a game, match or other contest hosted by Morehead State University is asked to reserve a press credential at least 24 hours prior to the event. Media parking is located in the large lot east of the Academic-Athletic Center. Names of media members attending either a football or basketball event will be on a list with an attendant. Jayne Stadium, Johnson Arena, and Sonny Allen Field have specific press accommodations. Seating priority will be given to primary media outlets. Most MSU home events will be live streamed via ESPN+ services. To watch these events, viewers must have an active ESPN+ subcription.

ATHLETES HELPING ATHLETES - AN EAGLE FAMILY FOR LIFE The Legacy Club is a part of The Eagle Athletic Family Fund (EAFF) and provides former Morehead State University student athletes the opportunity to maintain a lifelong connection with MSU Athletics. We’re an exclusive group of former MSU student athletes who understand the commitment and spirit to be an Eagle! Because of your participation and achievements as a student athlete, you will forever be a part of the great legacy of MSU Athletics. Join your fellow former Eagle student athletes in supporting the growth and success of MSU Athletics. Our mission is to create an atmosphere and culture whereby former MSU student athletes promote Eagle Athletics through The Legacy Club. We’ll promote and honor the contributions made by former MSU student athletes. We also strive to provide our members with the opportunity to foster and maintain relationships across different sports and generations. Through a strong and active membership, we aim to make a significant difference in the lives of our current and former student-athletes.
