The color palette for the campus design was inspired by sunsets in the region and the Frio River - a natural element frequented by Uvaldeans during the summer. All of the academic wings include the range of colors within the palette, but each has a primary color to help students with identity and wayfinding.
The Functional Life Skills academic wing was intentionally designed to meet the needs of the students it will serve while maintaining its integration in the overall layout of the campus.

In this area, the tree at the center of the campus can be seen in its entirety. On the other side of this hallway is a dedicated Science Lab.

Before passing through the pair of doors, you can see one of the four Collaboration Areas in the building that were created for a variety of instructional needs of students.

At the heart of the new school stands a tree with 21 branches to honor each life lost at Robb Elementary. Two larger branches represent the teachers, and nineteen smaller branches extend from them, memorializing the children taken in the tragedy. The tree stands in the middle of the hallway, inspired by the heritage trees that remain in the middle of streets throughout the community. It symbolizes both roots and canopy — remembrance and the promise of what is still to come — and reflects Uvalde’s heritage as “Tree City U.S.A.,” where trees have long embodied preservation, growth, and identity.
Though the tree is prominent in the campus, some of the most meaningful features of this school are intentionally subtle — quiet gestures of remembrance and comfort, deeply understood and felt by students, staff, and the community, while creating a warm and welcoming environment for learning.

En el corazón de la nueva escuela se alza un árbol de 21 ramas para honrar cada vida perdida en la Escuela Primaria Robb. Dos ramas más grandes representan a los maestros, y diecinueve ramas más pequeñas se extienden desde ellas, en memoria de los niños fallecidos en la tragedia.
El árbol se alza en medio del pasillo, inspirado en los árboles patrimoniales que aún perduran en las calles de la comunidad. Simboliza tanto las raíces como la copa de los árboles —el recuerdo y la promesa de lo que está por venir— y refleja la herencia de Uvalde como “Ciudad de los Árboles de EE. UU.”, donde los árboles han simbolizado desde hace mucho tiempo la preservación, el crecimiento y la identidad.
Aunque el árbol ocupa un lugar destacado en el campus, algunas de las características más significativas de esta escuela son intencionalmente sutiles: gestos silenciosos de recuerdo y consuelo, profundamente comprendidos y sentidos por los estudiantes, el personal y la comunidad, al tiempo que crean un ambiente cálido y acogedor para el aprendizaje.

The Clinic is organized like a pediatrician’s office recognizing that separate well-child and sick-child treatment areas better support student wellness and attendance which are essential to student learning.

The Main Entry, controlled vestibule, and reception area were designed to delicately balance the role of safety and security with the desire of the CAC that the campus be a welcoming place for families, the community, and other visitors.

The main administration area is comprised of critical leadership and support staff spaces. There are two offices thoughtfully designed to support student discipline while respecting the dignity of students.

The Music Room will be full of music and movement and is located behind the stage to serve as a green room to support performances and other student showcases.

The Main Courtyard was created in the middle of the campus to create outdoor learning opportunities without the need to go beyond the secured perimeter of the campus. You can also see the tree from a variety of places within this courtyard and beyond.

Sports fields, courts, and equipment provide ample opportunity for exercise and play. To support students during transitions and while at recess, restrooms are provided adjacent to the Gym and Cafeteria as well as directly accessible from the play area

It was important to the CAC and team leading the design efforts to provide this campus with an interior gymnasium since that space wasn’t available to students until attending the Flores campus. It was designed to support the students as well as the community at large.
