“Girl from the North Country” is the Tony Award-winning new musical that the Chicago Tribune declares is “a Broadway revelation!”
Written and directed by celebrated playwright Conor McPherson and featuring Tony Award-winning orchestrations by Simon Hale, “Girl from the North Country” reimagines 20 legendary songs of Bob Dylan as they’ve never been heard before, including “Forever Young,” “All Along the Watchtower,” “Hurricane,” “Slow Train Coming,” and “Like A Rolling Stone.” It’s 1934 in Duluth, Minnesota. We meet a group of wayward travelers whose lives intersect in a guesthouse filled with music, life, and hope. Our Club has been active in Moraga since 1967, following the motto “Service above Self.” We have continued to support many excellent community organizations such as MEF, Food Bank, Moraga Citizens Network, Chamber of Commerce, and the schools. Rotary International (RI) now has over 33,000 clubs in over 160 countries. In the 1980s, RI initiated and continues to guide “Polio Plus,” the worldwide effort to eradicate polio, which is close to success. Moraga Rotary is one of the five Clubs in the Lamorinda/ Rossmoor area.
In our ’23–’24 year, we have donated $10,000 to Moraga Parks for Commons picnic area improvements, and have donated to many community groups. We have sponsored: a Moraga woman to be a Global Scholar at Oxford (England), Scout Troop 246 in Moraga, six Odyssey of the Mind teams from Moraga schools, and a College Admissions seminar with a UC admissions officer. We have joined with Moraga Juniors to collect women’s items for Community Violence Solutions, and participated in Moraga Community Service Day.
