Our mission is to activate the world-shaping power of pop culture through participative experiences, discovery, and play.
Pop culture is who we are—it defines us, and we define it. In an era of digital and physical isolation, pop culture serves as a powerful connective force. MOPOP is an essential organization that unites diverse communities, both near and far, to tell interconnected stories through fashion, film, gaming, music, and more. We stay on the pulse of pop culture and push the boundaries of what it means to be a museum.
We envision a world where everyone recognizes and wields their cultural power. Our exhibitions, programs, and educational offerings create space to explore pop culture firsthand—through the past, present, where we are all creators and consumers, and into the future. Our museum expands the scope of every story, bringing together an array of perspectives, including guest stories, shared experiences, and collective fandoms in conversation with the museum and broader pop culture community.
We are immensely proud of our work in 2024 as we continued building a more vibrant arts and culture museum positively impacting our community and reflecting the richness of our diverse world.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
POP CULTURE CONNECTS US
“With multiple exhibits at any given time, there’s something for everyone. FREE if you have EBT benefits!”
—MOPOP Guest
Pop culture is created by the people, for the people. As MOPOP continues to grow as a global cultural resource, ensuring equitable access remains central to our mission.
Community engagement is at the heart of our outreach efforts, and in 2024, we saw remarkable strides in our access and inclusion programs. Our partnerships with 51 local organizations brought 1,373 total visits through our MoACCESS initiatives, fostering deeper connections across the state and reducing financial barriers to visiting the museum. Through the King County Library System and Seattle Public Library Museum Pass programs, we welcomed 7,822 attendees, while our Museums for All program, a national program designed for EBT and WIC participants, saw a significant increase, with 17,077 visits.
These achievements reflect the continued impact of our efforts, including Sensory-Friendly Mornings, and DEIA initiatives. Additionally, we distributed 3,197 donated tickets to 821 different nonprofits, ensuring access to the museum’s offerings without barriers.
Through these programs, we reaffirm our commitment to making MOPOP a truly inclusive space—where everyone is welcome, reducing barriers to access arts and culture for the diverse communities we are proud to engage.

“The best part of the volunteer program was all the awesome people I got to meet. Everyone at MOPOP is so nice and caring.”

Youth Volunteer Summer Program Participant
The 2024 volunteer program at MOPOP marked a transformative year of growth and community-building. We reimagined our onboarding process, welcoming volunteers in two main cohorts rather than through individual orientations. This shift allowed us to engage larger groups of passionate individuals, fostering a deeper sense of camaraderie and enabling us to onboard 73 total volunteers. We also expanded our group volunteering efforts, bringing in 45 volunteers from KPMG and Microsoft to further support our mission.
Nearly 200 volunteers played a pivotal role in shaping 2024 at MOPOP. Their contributions spanned from assisting guests and leading hands-on activities to supporting our educational programming and behindthe-scenes operations. We are deeply grateful to our diverse volunteers—representing a wide range of ages, backgrounds, and experiences—who have come together to celebrate the transformative influence of pop culture and to make a difference in our community.
IN-MUSEUM AND OUTREACH EDUCATION
MOPOP’s educational programs integrate pop culture students already know and love into classroom learning standards and community programs. Through dynamic, hands-on approaches linked to learning objectives like Social Emotional Learning, we bridge arts-integrated gaps and reduce access barriers, expanding opportunities for students to learn through the power of pop culture. Whether at the museum or in schools, our workshops create dynamic learning spaces. Our outreach programs bring these experiences directly into classrooms and community centers, eliminating transportation barriers for students and educators. During outreach programs, students investigate biological specimens, unleash their creativity inspired by horror filmmakers, and team up to crack puzzles straight out of a tabletop game adventure. By engaging in these programs, we witness how pop culture transforms education, fostering collaboration, creativity, and community in ways that last long after the class ends.
