EUNOIA: Residential Community for Dementia & Alzheimer’s Disease Senior Interior Design Thesis Spring 2021

PRIMARY USER The primary users of this facility are residents who have been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.

-Ranging from mid-60s to the end of the second stage.

-Dementia is a symptom of Alzhiemer’s and is a syndrome, not a disease. However, like Alzheimer’s, it is uncurable.

-Alzhiemer’s, is a progressive brain disease that involves the physical deterioration of the brain.

-Both dementia and Alzheimer’s victims exhibit similar symptoms

BEHAVIORAL CONCERNS Alzheimer’s is known for causing its victims to act out of character, causing them to say and do things they wouldn’t normally do.

Categories of concerns: - Stage of Alzhiemer’s Disease - Aged physical concerns (Such as loss of cognitive abilities, weak muscles, loss of coordination, etc.)

- Psychological concerns (Such as depression, loss of confidence, hallucinations, loss of perception of time, etc.

- Generational Factors of the silent generation and Baby Boomers generation.

SITE - Adjacent to Delaware Hospice Center and The Boys and Girls Club of Milford.

-Wooded on the North and East sides.

NEIGHBORHOOD - The neighborhood surrounding the DVH is suburban and quiet.

- It is a 2-minute drive outside of the town of Milford.

- It sits on a large plot of land adjacent from the Milford Boys and Girls Club and the Delaware Hospice Center.

- A wooded area and fields surround the facility.

- Some of the local businesses and chains are a Walmart Supercenter, Milford Bowling Lanes, a Wawa gas station, Dimond State Dentistry, Premier Orthopedic Bone and Joint Care, Bayhealth Primary Care, Whipper Snapper Transport, Grottos Pizza, and many others.
