Hello, Hello, my name is Elizabeth Moore and I am an Urban Planning student at the University of Cincinnati. I currently reside in the City of Cincinnati; however, I am a native to the City of Detroit. My interest in Urban Planning and Architecture peaked while growing up in the City of Detroit during The Great Recession in 2008.

During this time, many of the neighborhoods in Detroit began to see a large influx of home foreclosures, abandoned homes, and dilapidated properties. I began to appreciate the history and potential of what Detroit had to offer its residents in terms of beauty and quality of life.

I started my journey studying Architecture at Oakland Community College in Auburn Hills, Michigan. The courses that I took studying Architecture helped tremendously by helping me acquire skills in hand-rendering, drafting, and computer-aid design. After studying Architecture for a few years, I realized that my desire was to make changes that were on a larger scale.

I am now a second year Urban Planning major at the University of Cincinnati and my main interests are currently Urban Design, Transportation Planning, and Comprehensive/ Long Range Planning. While I do currently consider these specialties to be my top three, I am open to exploring other planning specialties. While working for Woolpert, I gained experience in Federal Planning assisting in various projects on bases nationwide and globally.

The following is a simplified version of a semester long group project “Represent The Neighborhood: Over-TheRhine�, that explores the evolution of perspective of one individual after observation, data collection, and analysis.

East End Resiliency Plan: Typology Analysis

Typology Analysis

This typology is located in the center of East End and has a wider area yet steeper slope. This area displays residential being pushed away and zoning open space within the flood zone. The building footprint is more organic and based on infill due to the drastic and steep topography.

Schematic Plan

The existing site which is majority single family homes and LeBlond Community Center located along Riverside Drive and single family homes along Gladstone Avenue. In order to increase density, add housing diversity, and accessible commercial for residents in the center of East End. In order to do this, changing the land use of the homes located along Riverside Drive to accommodate mixed-use development. Next, relocating LeBlond Community Center from the flood prone riverfront location to a more appropriate area and transforming the land to active open green space. Finally, converting the tracks which will no longer be in use after the Fulton Place redevelopment to pedestrian trails which connect to the riverside trail.

Proposed Site

Creating a mixed-use center for residents whom are located miles away from any commercial activity. The units proposed include single family which already exist along Gladstone but also adding apartments which range from Studios to 3 Bedrooms. Units within study area adjusted from roughly 60 units to 200 units. Green infrastructure such as rain gardens, bioswales, and permeable pavement implemented throughout.

Amenities include connectivities to two trails, commercial within walking distance, and activated open space.

Observing the Neighborhood Each member of the group was asked to observe a certain area of Over-The-Rhine that was distinctively different from each other. So, opposed to the dense areas that are located further south of OTR, the north most parts of OTR is a lot denser with single-use lots, which made it a great area of observation compared to the areas south of Liberty Street. This area has been impacted most by the population decline and manifests that by the scarce and scattered lots depicted in the Figure Ground Map and 3D Sketchup Model.

Vine Street Intervention Over-The-Rhine is a dense and mixed-use neighborhood which makes it a great opportunity for being a pedestrian dominant and friendly neighborhood by creating and implementing bike lanes, wider sidewalks, and public transit.
