Moon Valley Teens are sharing the holiday spirit btc Helps Brighten the Holidays BY W I L L C L A R K , B T C C L A S S O F 2024 The Boys Team Charity Class of 2024 recently spent some time Christmas shopping for stocking stuffers for children in need. On November 16th, the boys brought their gifts to Barro’s to stuff stockings and make handwritten cards for these special kids. These gifts are for children involved in a program called Parenting por Vida (formerly Mom’s Place) which is a part of Neighborhood Ministries. The parents in this program are pursuing stability in all facets of their lives and exploring new ways to provide health and well-being for themselves and their children. Parenting por Vida is one of the original philanthropies of Boys Team Charity. The boys and their families have been able to sign up for different events through the years to support this program. During the holidays, the boys in btc sign up to purchase and wrap stocking stuffers, pajamas, and toys for 70 children in the program. These gifts are then distributed to the kids and their families.
Spreading Seasonal Cheer with the Jaydie lynn King Foundation B Y A LY S S A M A R I N O , C L A S S O F 2 0 2 1 Imagine walking into a warehouse to find unwrapped presents piled shoulderhigh, with every possible gift-wrapping material at your disposal. With an abundance of gifts comes the need for plenty of gift wrappers! My most memorable National Charity League, Inc. (NCL, Inc.) Moon Valley Chapter experience is when I volunteered at Jaydie Lynn King Foundation’s Adopt-a-Family event. This Adopt-aFamily program was created by Phoenix Children’s Hospital and has worked with the Jaydie Lynn King Foundation for over ten years. Together, they provide an unforgettable Christmas experience to children and their families who are fighting cancer and blood disorders. Each year, a donor is matched to a family with a sick child. Gifts provided to the family include clothing, grocery gift cards, household necessities, toys, and even “wow” items such as bikes and gaming systems. As we entered the warehouse to volunteer, we were prepared to spend our evening long journey wrapping presents for our designated family. The night of wrapping presents made Christmas come alive! The atmosphere is filled with Christmas music, laughter, snacks and an overall positive vibe. Each volunteer group is given a dedicated square where their freshly wrapped presents are stacked and then placed into bags for easy pickup and delivery. As I was leaving the warehouse, I was filled with pride knowing that I was a part of giving children and their families love, comfort and Christmas cheer. I could not wait to get home to spread the same Christmas spirit to my own family. I am already looking forward to volunteering with this wonderful organization again. Susan Leon, the program’s director, attended our event at Barro’s. She explained how the program works to support and counsel families, including parent education, relationship skill building, transportation, meals and childcare for program meetings. These young men are learning how important it is to give back through volunteering their time to help others in need. They were very proud to know that these children will have a little brighter holiday season because of their generosity. Jaydie Lynn King Adopt-a-Family Holiday Gift Wrapping Event
