Eurekaskool vier verjaardag VEREENIGING. - Eurekaskool, ‘n skool vir erg intellektuele- en fisies gestremde kinders, vier vanjaar ‘n besondere mylpaal.

Die skool bestaan reeds 48 jaar en gaan van krag tot krag.

Daar is tans 430 leerlinge in die skool, waarvan 135 in die koshuis tuisgaan. Eurekaskool ontvang egter nie genoeg subsidie van die staat om in al die behoeftes van die kinders te voorsien nie. Hulle maak dus staat op fondsinsamelings en die gemeenskap om

hulle te help om voort te gaan met die goeie werk wat hulle doen. Met die goedhartigheid van die gemeenskap kan die skool met trots sê dat alle projekte wat hulle aanpak, ter wille van hul leerlinge is.

“Eurekaskool bedank graag die gemeen-

skap wat deur die jare steeds bydra tot die ontwikkeling van die kinders in totaliteit.

This comes after Holywoood Bets. Net Three Rivers surprised the center with a kitchen makeover. The makeover saw a new modern Hollywood Bets.

Net Three Rivers recently handed over a brand new kitchen to the Trentico Umephi Child and Youth Care Center in Three Rivers.

Net says that the donation came as part of their corporate social responsibility. “10 charities are selected annually and we donate to them according to what they need. Today we are handing over a brand new kitchen to this centre,” Dlamini concludes.

VEREENIGING. - Democratic Alliance (DA) MPL Kingsol Chabalala was last week announced as the party’s mayoral candidate for Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM).

Chabalala gladly accepted the nomination. Chabalala says, “I have served the people of Emfuleni as a DA activist, councillor and member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature and believe that I know the community well enough to serve them as a mayor who will put their needs first.”

Chabalala states that he is aware of increased levels of unemployment with the youth being the most vulnerable. “I have seen how young people have lost all hope of securing employment in Emfuleni and how as a result they have resorted to drugs and alcohol for comfort.”

Chabalala added that poor service delivery in Emfuleni was one of the major issues that he would deal with before becoming mayor.

“I will fix potholes and continuously maintain all municipal roads.

I will ensure refuse is collected on a weekly basis in both formal and informal areas.

“I will prioritise the continuous maintenance of municipal infrastructure and I will also improve the turnaround time of fixing broken high mast lights and robots.

“The time for change is now. Let us bring a change that cuts corruption, delivers services and creates jobs,” a positive Chabalala concludes.

Invitation to Interested and affected stakeholders Dear Stakeholders Samancor Manganese (Pty) Ltd operates a number of waste management facilities, including two sludge dams and a slag dump, at our Metalloys site in Meyerton. These facilities are authorized in terms of National Environmental Management: Waste Act, 2008 (Act No.59 of 2008).

In terms of the Waste Management Licenses held by Metalloys, a Waste Management Monitoring Committee must be established and maintained. The purpose of the Committee is to monitor the effectiveness of Metalloys’ management processes to ensure minimal impact on the environment and compliance to statutory requirements related to the Waste Management Licenses. The Committee must be maintained for the normal operative life time of the waste sites and for a period of at least two years after the closure of the site.

Metalloys would like to invite interested and affected stakeholders to become part of the Waste Management Monitoring Committee, and participate in the Committee meetings. Sakelui kan ringbal in Vaal help uitbou Heap-ringbalklub is op 8 Maart vanjaar deur ‘n bekende in dié sportsoort, mnr.

Hennie Theron, gestig en bestaan tans uit 20 lede.

Hennie het in die 1990s aan dié sportsoort begin deelneem en teen die jaar 2000 kon hy en sy hele gesin reeds met Sedibeng-kleure spog. Hennie het verlede jaar Sedibeng-spanbestuurder geword en meesterstatus gekry.

Die Heap-ringbalklub gebruik tans bane by die Dick Fourie-stadion in Vereeniging.

In Vanderbijlpark word die bane agter die muurbalgebou by Just Cars in Louis Trichardt-boulevard gebruik.

Die Heap-klub het ook ander bane in Vanderbijlpark beskikbaar, maar dit kort nog heelwat aandag en herstelwerk ten bedrae van R122 000, sê Hennie.

Belangstellendes van 7 tot 60 jaar is welkom om by die ringbalklub aan te sluit.

Tans word kinder- en jeuggroepe van o/11 tot o/23 jaar, ‘n seniorsgroep (24 – 34 jaar), veterane (35 – 45) en meesters (45 en ouer) beplan.

Enigiemand wat in ringbal belangstel kan ‘n lid word, al het hy of sy nog nooit gespeel nie. Die doel is om die sport bekend te stel aan verskillende rasse en die sportsoort s¢ te help groei. Al die nodige

afrigting word aangebied.

Tans is 80% van die Heap-spelers swart.

“Heap se visie is om ringbal veral aan ontwikkelingsgroepe en straatkinders voor te stel sodat ons minder dwelmhuise hoef te bou. Ek is bevoorreg om ‘n great bestuur te hê asook spelers wat alles insit,” sê Hennie.

Sy plan is om van die lede na ‘n toernooi te neem wat in die tweede week van Julie plaasvind.

Dit bring egter reiskoste mee en sommige van die spelers benodig boonop nog sportklere en tekkies. Hennie doen ‘n vriendelike beroep op die sakegemeenskap om donasies vir

dié doel te gee.

VLC Novice Cake Race

MEYERTON. - The new racing season for paddlers has begun, and on April 27, enthusiasts competed in the VLC Novice Cake Race on the Klip River.

This race roughly spans 15 km, with a few challenging white water obstacles, such as Broken Weir, Pump House Rapid, and of course the well-known Double Drop; all before finishing at Caravan Park Rapid.

The locally based North West University Watunis performed well among the competitors. Andrè Zandbergh came in first K1, but second overall with a time of 1h04s. Fellow paddler, Kobus Filmalter, came in a close 2nd with a time of 1h05s.

Schalk Iewan van Zyl (Smurfie) with novice Letitia Janse van Vuuren, finished third in the mixed doubles category with a time of 1h10s.

Ricku van Zyl with novice Monique Smith crossed the finishing line in 1h40s, narrowly winning Hermanus Lombaard (Tony) and novice paddler Jean-Pierre Brits.

The next two races are coming up in May;

the VLC Klip River Race on the 14th, and the Flcc Klip Race on the 22nd.
