“Architecture without coal and petroleum: The dominance of two key sources of modern culture will diminish within a few years: coal and petroleum will gradually be phased out of as a source of energy and together with their diminution, an entire range of synthetic construction materials will either have to be reconstituted or eliminated”. (text taken from the project statement)
A High-Performance School (COAR) is a school destinated for brilliant students with a notable IQ. In 2015, this typology of school was created to decentralize education, provide a quality educational system and modern infrastructure to outstanding students from 3rd to 5th grade of secondary school (14 – 17 years old). As it was mentioned before, one of the main objectives is to decentralize education and Amazonas, after Lima, is the second most populated department and Bagua Grande is the city that has the largest number of people who are between the ages of 14 and 17, which are the target audience. In relation with this and responding to the necessity of improving education in the country and to the objectives established by the institution, the project responds to the current situation based on a sequence of design principles and investigations that will allow a deep and detailed development taking into account the site-specificity (natural/material resources of the site) and local skilled labor, according to their construction systems, thus satisfying the need of having an architecture that can contribute to their own culture. Following this, the concept arises from the idea of integrating the project with the city, it is important to mention that the existing COAR’s facilities are buildings that enclose themselves turning their back to the city in which they are located, making them look like it is something unachievable and very exclusive instead of inviting the local community to be part of it. In relation of the previously mentioned point, what the project search is to achieve a new vision that does not follow the current defined pattern. Therefore, by integrating the project with the city, will allow the creation of new public and urban spaces that can be used by both, thus generating the fact that they can appropriate the spaces making them part of their local culture which will make anyone aspire to be part of it in a reachable way. By this point, making the new COAR typology desirable, applying and entering to it will reinforce their skills for their future and at the same time it will decentralize high-quality education and improve it.

“The soul of Lisbon.
The city of Lisbon, capital of Portugal, is located in a unique geographical location, in a kind of natural harbor, formed by a river delta where the Tagus estuary is the epicenter of the metropolitan region. This condition, of protected territory and natural harbor, was recognized more than three thousand years ago, at the beginning of its occupation. Today the metropolitan city gravitates around the estuary, without ceasing to claim the condition of border between land and water. It will always be a subject of reflection of special interest to urban planners, architects, thinkers and poets who, for once, are searching for the soul of Lisbon”. (text taken from the project statement)
The project sits on the tension between the city and the river. The word Island is used as a starting point for the work and the intervention actions. Quinta do Braancamp is a plot of land with urban vocation that embraces some caldeiras controlled by windmills. Currently, the site is unoccupied. Barreiro is a municipality preceded by fishing, the fishing families occupy the site, placing their houses in ruins or building them with local and recycled materials. The project focuses on the history of fishing to create an urban space that restores the importance of the wind and tide mills, the functioning of the caldeiras for the creation of psiciculture, provides a space of its own to the fishermen and seeks to connect the city with the sea.

Residential project
Casa Metz is a residential project located in a gated community in the municipality of San Nicolas de los Garza, Nuevo Leon. The lot does not have privileged views, so the design proposes the creation of interior gardens, opening each space towards them. An important part of the design of this project is the proposal of intermediate levels, in order to achieve all the client’s requirements without losing the scale of the context. The project is proposed with local materials of the region: brick, apparent concrete and masonry walls.
Casa Naranjos is located in the municipality of Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon. The land already had a pavement built, the client wanted the footprint of the new construction to cover the same square meters of the existing pavement so that the green area would predominate, as well as maintaining the existing perimeter fence. The residential project is resolved in modules of 1.22 x 2.44 m to make the most out of the material, optimize construction time and reduce construction costs.
