For his part the producer-director of the virtual reality video Emanuel St-Pierre tells us about the use of this new technology: "The goal of the virtual reality experience is to make the viewer feel the emotion (in this particular case regarding the non-respect for the limits). That's achieved by placing yourself not only as a viewer but also as a character." He also tells us about some of the

technical issues as well, "we had to get a camera from the States since there was none here at the time. We made many tests as well before coming up with the final product."

un Youth’s traditional annual new clothing giveaway for low income families was a tremendous success again this year with some 2400 people assisted on August 16 and 17 2016.

The staff and volunteers were in for a surprise though when they arrived to the organization’s headquarters on the second day of distribution. Due to the intense rain of the previous day, a great part of the city was in the dark, powerless, in-

cluding the Saint-Urbain street old Baron Byng High school! Not letting this back luck deter them and taking into account the line up of people already present, the team brought some tables and all the clothes outside in Sun Youth’s side parking, creating a festive atmosphere.

With the new school year beginning, increased expenses impose additional hardship for needy families in Montreal. Sun

Youth’s free clothing distribution in adult sizes is intended for them. rom circus to movies, to opera, these are only some of the many artistic expressions that are present at the 7th edition of NDG Arts Week, a local celebration of all arts taking place August 22-28, mostly outdoors. Almost all the activities are free although some require a volunteer contribution to benefit local social-service community organizations such as NDG Food Depot and Head and Hands.

The festival started this Monday with an opening ceremony at the NDG Cultural Centre on Monkland Ave., with the attendance of local MNA Kathleen Weil, who is also Minister of Immigration,

Haven By The Sea - Pack your bags for Wells Maine

estled along some of the most beautiful beaches in North America, Haven By The Sea is a destination Montreal must see in Southern Maine. Between the privately run inn itself, the surrounding shops of Wells and Ogunquit, neighbouring restaurants, and pristine beaches, The Haven promises a personalized getaway guests won’t find this side of the border.

Classic cathedral ceilings and a friendly English bulldog greets guests as they enter Haven By The Sea. Fresh flowers and soft music floods the entrance inviting guests to explore the other common areas.

“When you walk in the front door, you feel peace.

That’s the only way I can describe it,” said Nancy Ezzo, owner and operator of The Haven. The feeling of peace flows along the hallway—lined by the original church pews—up the spiral staircase to some bedrooms, and through to the back of the inn to rest on the dining room’s terrace where guests admire the serene salt marsh.

Nancy Ezzo purchased Haven By The Sea in May of this year. A whirlwind of experiences led to her settling on the charismatic 1920s era church-turnedinn by the ocean. “We’re four houses away from the ocean,” said Ezzo. “Guests roll out of bed and have a gourmet breakfast, get their bathing suits on and just walk to the beach.”

Fresh Flowers, the Rocky Shoreline, and Personalized Service The beach itself is a major drawing point for tourists escaping to the east coast of the continent. The beach is ranked top ten in the United States, and known for its fine sand and rolling sand dunes. Some areas shift from sand to a rocky

shoreline—a sight unlike any other. “It’s a really clean, absolutely gorgeous beach,” Ezzo said. “There’s rocks to sit on, and in some area there’s been seals, and there’s tide pools full of hermit crabs, yet the town keeps it so completely immaculate.”

Visitors relax amongst the tide pools, soak in the sun, and enjoy the salty air that follows them back to their rooms at the end of each day.

The guest rooms overlook the inn’s surrounding gardens.The gardens overflow, mixing vegetables alongside flowers to maintain its fresh glory, despite the season. Guests find plenty of roses, trumpet flowers, gardenias, lilies, greenery, rhubarb, and red leafy lettuce. Nancy also grows a kitchen garden full of herbs that she uses to mix drinks and cook breakfast.

Mornings at The Haven start early. With the help of her friend, Danny Pelton, Nancy has coffee ready by 6:30am for the first risers, then breakfast runs from 8:30 to 9:30am.

Guests have the choice of dining in the dining room or on the terrace. “I’m all about freshness,” said Ezzo, about her choice of living floral décor around the dining room. Succulents sit on each table.

Fresh breakfast, too—she even handpicks groceries herself at the local market, catering to allergies and dietary restrictions wherever possible.

Every aspect of The Haven appears personalized, but that’s just Nancy’s way of life. “I’m a perfectionist,” she said. Nancy tracks the tides for each of her guests, informing them at breakfast what times are best spent along the water. She also helps her guests choose a place to dine in the evening, and makes their reservations to ensure they receive the best service at her neighbours’ establishments.

The appreciation of wine

ine appreciation isn’t something you should be shy of. It’s also an activity that does not make you a snob or apart for somebody else. It’s actually easy to enjoy the differences between a pinot noir and a cabernet without too much head scratching, financial distress, or the fuss of learning a new language.

Wine often gets a bad reputation. Sometimes it’s deserved: Confusing lingo and intentionally snob language make wine complex to learn, famous critics and hyper expensive wines make normal people think it’s out of reach and only for the rich people, and there’s an entire cheap market with the mission of selling you the

what you like and what you don’t like, and why. At best, it’ll keep you from drinking something you didn’t like again, just because you forgot you tried it.

Now don’t run out and buy a crazy amount of wine and start making wild notes. This is a slow, gradual process. The objective here is to enjoy yourself and learn about concept that “this is the your own tastes. Don’t make it a responsibility! real deal.”

My last suggestion is to attend as many wine festivals as you can and to visit wineries. For info on the festivals, you can visit the webpage of the SAQ to start or take a look at the local wine magazines such as Vins et Vignobles or Exquis. For the wineries, why not start with some local ones. Quebec is blessed with a burgeoning wine scene and with many interesting grapes and estates to discover.

These are some of the phrases and characters that for nine seasons were associated with the NBC sitcom “Seinfeld”, the show about nothing that defined TV comedy during the 90s, and is now regarded as one of the greatest sitcoms in television history.

However, it was a long, tough road for the weekly misadventures of Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer to make it from just another sitcom to iconic TV series. And that nine-year endurance test is well chronicled in Jennifer Keishin Armstrong’s fascinating behind-thescenes account Seinfeldia.

The show was the brainchild of two New York-based comics: Jerry Seinfeld, who was increasingly building a reputation as a popular comic on the club circuit, and Larry David, a former member of the 1980s ABC late night sketch comedy show “Fridays”, and an unpredictable, volatile stand-up at best. When the show about nothing was formulated and pitched, it didn’t have the right amount of confidence from NBC, the network that somehow reluctantly picked it up.The pilot, which was called “The Seinfeld Chronicles”, aired in the summer of 1989. After the pilot received a great deal of negative reactions from test audiences, NBC decided to give the show – with its name now shortened to “Seinfeld” – a four-episode order, one of the smallest episode orders ever offered by a TV network.

Somehow, with a scenario that could have been a death sentence for a potential TV series, “Seinfeld” slowly began to build an audience with its simple, quirky, reality-based approach to its episode plotlines, from getting a restaurant busboy fired, to wandering around a suburban shopping mall parking lot in a vain search to find their car, to waiting to get a table at a Chinese restaurant. But it was the airing of its controversial masturbation episode “The Contest” in 1992 that earned “Seinfeld” its permanent place in the pantheon of classic television.

What I found so interesting about Seinfeldia is how Armstrong effectively argues that the success of “Seinfeld” lay not only in the terrific comic performances offered by Jerry Seinfled, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander and Michael Richards, but how its constantly changing staff of writers (whom were subject to almost annual purges by Seinfled and David) managed to craft scripts that somehow effectively blurred the line between fiction and reality with every half-hour episode.

And there are plenty of absorbing behind-thescenes stories in the book that backs up this argument. There are the actual people who inspired such memorable “Seinfeld” characters as the Soup Nazi, Kramer and “Crazy” Joe Devola (who was actually a Fox network executive and producer); the story behind Festivus (which

trayed Seinfeld’s most memorable characters have successfully made a living from their appearance(s) on the show (case in point: Larry Thomas, who continues to make countless personal appearances in the guise of the role that made him famous: the Soup Nazi). As well, readers get to find out more about the fan outrage over the disappointing series finale, how there was almost a 10th season of the show, the “Seinfeld Curse”, Michael Richards’ career-ending performance at the Laugh Factory in 2006, and how Kenny Kramer turned his real life inspiration for the Kramer character into a well-paying cottage industry, which includes his vast line of Seinfeld-related merchandise, and his popular Seinfeld Reality Tours of New York City.

Seinfeldia is another fine addition to your TV history library. Jennifer Keishan Armstrong has firmed her reputation as a topnotch TV historian with this book, as she tells the story of how this show about nothing has turned generations of viewers into a nation of “Seinfeld” devotees who have absorbed the comically cynical world of Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer … and all of the quirky catchphrases and characters that make up this uniquely TV world.

The city of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue joins the Electric Circuit with new public Electric charging station

he city of SainteAnne-de-Bellevue and the Electric Circuit are delighted to announce the commissioning of a new public charging station for electric vehicles. EV drivers can now charge their vehicle in the parking lot in front of City Hall located at 109 de la rue Sainte-Anne, in the heart of this commercial street.

“The shift toward transportation electrification is well underway in Québec, and we are very proud to now be able to welcome EV drivers who wish to use a public charging station. The city of SainteAnne-de-Bellevue has always been sensitive to environmental issues, and it therefore seemed natural to us to take an active role in the expansion of
