LEARNING TO DO TEACHERS ARM STUDENTS WITH THE TOOLS TO PURSUE THEIR PASSION IN AG MECHANICS earning to do. Doing to learn. These first two lines of the FFA motto guide classroom instruction for many agricultural education teachers. One sector of the industry driven by this hands-on approach is agricultural mechanics. Students across the state enrolled in agricultural education hit the shop each day to explore the technical side of wood working, welding, project planning and more.
While in the shop, learning hard skills is important. However, the lessons between the lines matter just as much. “I hope students gain problem solving skills on how to fix projects they have and how to follow a plan to create a project,” said Amanda Sullivan, Montgomery City agricultural education teacher and FFA advisor. “I also hope they gain welding experience to where they can create a good quality weld.” continued on pAGE 6
Problem-solving is just one of the skills agricultural education instructors hope to teach their students in agricultural mechanics.
