Travel in style on an 18-foot party pontoon with reclining chairs. We’ll provide hotdogs on the grill and drinks. Participants are requested to bring a side to share. The deadline to register is August 25.

To Kill a Mockingbird

This hard-hitting work explores prejudice, compassion and the courage to do what is right. Participants are responsible for their own lunch in downtown Abingdon. The deadline to register is August 4.

DRIFT AND DINE ON THE NEW - $25

Sept. 16, 1 pm - 8 pm, New River

This trip will take us down a short three-mile class I, II section where we will experience all the New River has to offer. At the end of the trip we will dine at The Palisades, a local hotspot for evening entertainment and contemporary cuisine in a countryside setting. The Palisades is located in the former Payne's General Store in Eggleston. Participants are responsible for their meal cost. All equipment is provided along with dry bags, personal flotation devices, paddles, and paddling jackets. The deadline to register is September 8.

NATIONAL D-DAY MEMORIAL - $27

Sept. 21, 9 am - 5 pm, Bedford, VA

The grounds for the monument take visitors on an archival journey through World War II and the politics and perils that embody the time period. Paying tribute to the men and women who served their country in one of its most dire battles, the DDay National Memorial creates a solemn atmosphere for veterans and visitors alike to gain insight and learn more about the events that shaped our nation’s and our world’s history. The fee includes the trip, ticket, and guided tour by golf cart. Participants are responsible for their own lunch after the tour.

CLAYTOR LAKE KAYAKING - $30

Sept. 26, 9 am– 5 pm, Claytor Lake

We provide full instruction on how to navigate your own sit-on-top kayak in a safe environment on calm clear water. We teach you the proper paddle strokes to navigate your boat. All equipment is provided. Lunch is provided waterfront on this great outdoor program. The deadline to register is September 19.

Water Powered Mills

This illustrated lecture is based on The Water Powered Mills of Floyd County, Virginia: Illustrated Histories, 1770-2010 by the late Franklin F. Webb and Ricky L. Cox, (McFarland Publishers 2012). Participants are asked to bring their favorite dish to share for a potluck style lunch.

NEW RIVER RAFT FLOAT - $35

This trip is designed as a laid back, relaxing float with some exciting class II+ rapids thrown in that will bring you right into nature. All equipment is provided along with dry bags, PFDs, paddles and paddling jackets. We will provide riverside lunch for one of the best picnics you've ever had.

AUTUMN LEAVES FESTIVAL - $10

The historic Autumn Leaves Festival is hosted annually by the Town of Mayberry in the heart of Mount Airy, NC. Enjoy talented musicians, unique arts and crafts, and delicious food vendors. NEW RIVER GORGE HIKE- $10

Oct. 18, 8 am - 5 pm, Lansing, WV

New River Gorge National Park is the newest national park in the United States. This enjoyable hike on the Rend Trail will take us on a old railroad bead over looking the historic town of Thurmond. Participants are responsible for their own lunch in iconic Fayetteville, West Virginia. Level II - Moderate Exercise. Participants explore off the beaten path by stepping over trail obstacles, such as root and rock outcroppings. Climb and descend moderate, uneven terrain. Walking shoes with a cleaved sole are required. The deadline to register is Oct 11.

Misery follows successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon, who is rescued from a car crash by his “number one fan,” Annie Wilkes, and wakes up captive in her secluded home. While Paul is convalescing, Annie reads his latest book and becomes enraged when she discovers the author has killed off her favorite character, Misery Chastain. Annie forces Paul to write a new Misery novel, and he quickly realizes Annie has no intention of letting him go anywhere. The irate Annie has Paul writing as if his life depends on it…. and it does. FOLKLIFE FESTIVAL - $23

For 50 years, the Blue Ridge Folklife Festival has presented musicians, moonshiners, craftspeople, cooks, motorheads, mule jumpers, horse pullers, coon dog racers, antique tractor buffs, and old-time gamers for a celebration of the rich heritage and traditions of the region. Join us on a trip to visit the festival and take a walk back in time. Participants will be dropped off and be responsible for their own lunch. The deadline to register is Oct 20.

Charles Dicken’s beloved characters come to life with a Wohlfahrt Haus twist in “A Wohlfahrt Haus Christmas Carol.” Scrooge, a wealthy miser, goes on a journey Christmas Eve night with four ghosts to examine how his choices and actions in the past and present will affect his future as well as the true meaning of Christmas. Elf

“Elf the Musical” follows Buddy, a young orphan, who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s toy bag on Christmas Eve and is transported to the North Pole. Buddy is raised as an honorary Elf, unaware that he is actually a human until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh realities that his father is on the naughty list and his half-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

ILLUMINIGHTS $30

Brighten your nights and explore your holiday spirit through a dazzling world of over 650,000 lights at Illuminights Winter Walk of Lights. Travel down our half-mile wooded path while taking in the sights and sounds of the season. Visitors will experience 50,000 new lights, new displays, trail enhancements and family activities. While you’re here, shop for artisan crafts, roast marshmallows around the campfire, and enjoy additional family activities on select nights. Participants will be responsible for their own dinner in the park.

It’s December 24th in a busy airport, and newlydivorced gate agent Cheryl Dean is desperately trying to keep her Christmas spirit as she deals with a host of zany characters flying home for the holidays. An opinionated grandmother, a young man with big dreams, a champion turkey caller, and more are stuck in the airport as the night wears on. People will fall in love, get on each others’ nerves, and maybe

even end up with the happiest Christmas they’ve ever had in the unlikeliest of places.

POTTERY CLASS—$35

Join us for a 2 hour wheel class- you will learn how to center your clay on the wheel and create a bowl/vessel. Try it classes are great for all levels- Class includes instruction, demonstration and the basics for beginning to use the wheel. You will prepare your clay and learn to properly clean and care for the wheel. Please dress for a mess and bring a towel for your lap - long hair should be tied up - no jewelryplease remove all rings, watches, bracelets before coming to the studio.

Firing your piece is NOT included in the $35 price- This is a true TRY IT Class. You can make as many pieces as you like in the allotted time - There is a $20 firing/glazing fee for each piece. This fee includes firing to bisque, return visit to glaze, and the glaze firing. Clay must have plenty of time to dry slowly so as not to crack - it takes approximately 7 to 10 days for pieces to dry then another 3 days for firing. You will return in approximately 2 weeks to glaze your piece. All pots are held for 30 days after bisque firing- NO EXCEPTIONS. NOW ONLY $35 per person - No refunds or rescheduling of classes due to limited class size and availability.

ACEs are linked to chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance use problems in adolescence and adulthood. ACEs can also negatively impact education, job opportunities, and earning potential. However, ACEs can be prevented. Join us to learn more about ACEs and how you can take an active role in improving the overall wellness of our community!

BITES AND BUYS ANGELLE’S DINER-$8

"Bites and Buys" is a delightful excursion that combines culinary exploration with retail therapy, allowing participants to savor diverse cuisines while indulging in a shopping stop along the way. Participants will be responsible for their own lunch. The deadline to register is Jan 16.

MYSTERY SNOWMAN CRAFT—$15

Jan. 24, 11 am, Christiansburg Recreation Center

Create a snowman out of plastic pumpkins for your front porch decoration. The deadline to register is Jan 17.

LIMA BEAN AUCTION—$12

Jan. 26, 11 am, Christiansburg Recreation Center

Get ready to bid against your neighbor for items. Participants will each get a specific number of lima beans to use for currency in bidding. Light refreshments and drinks provided. The deadline to register is Jan 19.
