Pat Dolan begins his fourth year on the UM football staff and coaches the linebackers and receivers again this season. He will also work with the wide receivers. He is a 1966 graduate of G reat Falls C entral High School in M ontana and attended UM where he earned a B.S. in health and physical education in 1973. Dolan played in the Grizzly secondary during unbeaten seasons in 1969 and 1970. He served as defensive coordinator at Libby High School in Libby, M ontana from 1973-75 before accepting the UM appointm ent. He and his wife Shelley have two children, N athen and Heather.

Ernest “Pokey” Allen joined the UM staff in D ecem ber of 1976. He is defensive coordinator and w orks with the defensive backs. Allen graduated from Missoula County High School in 1961, after starring in football and basketball at MCHS. He was a three-year starter in football at the University of Utah and earned a bachelor of science degree in 1965. He was an honorable mention All-American, a team captain and m ost valuable player in the Liberty Bowl in 1965. Allen played in the Canadian Football League for three years before becom ing an assistant coach at Simon Fraser University in 1968. He was nam ed co-head coach in 1972 and retained that position until coming back to M ontana.

Gary Ekegren joined the football staff as defensive line coach in D ecem ber of 1976. He is a native of Harlem, M ontana, graduated from Harlem High School and received his bachelor’s degree from UM in 1963. He earned a m aster’s degree in health, physical education and recreation from M ontana in 1974. Ekegren was head football coach at Harlem High School for six years having previously coached football, basketball and track at Havre Junior High School. He served as first assistant at Missoula Sentinel High School from 1972-73 and becam e head coach at Sentinel in 1974. Ekegren and his wife K aren have three children, Travis, Shane and Ashley.

The newest m em ber of the Grizzly coaching staff, Bob Lowry cam e to UM in May of 1979. A 1964 graduate of M ontana State, Lowry is from Wolf Point, M ontana. His collegiate career at Stanford University was hastily ended with a knee injury. He was a four-year letterm an in football and basketball and three-tim er in track. He has coached at Glendive (M ontana) the past two seasons, and has won back-to-back State titles. Lowry coached at Plenty wood High from 1964-68, where his team s went 25-6-1; at G reat Falls C entral from 1968-71; at Plentywood again from 1971-76 and then to Glendive. Bob and his wife, Sharon have three children, twins Bob and Genie, and Mike.
