Since he return ed to his alm a m ater in 1937 Jiggs has been head b a ske tb a ll coach, as­ sisted in fo o tb a ll a n d base­ b a ll, and been th e d e p a rt­ ment's to p p ro selyto r. He w ill continue his head ba sketba ll coaching duties a lo n g w ith h is d i r e c t o r 's w o r k . T h e frie n d ly , hum orous Swede is a n a tu ra l a t m eeting the pu blic.

Chinske came to th e U ni­ versity fo r th e first tim e as a student b a ck in 1926 from W in o n a N o rm al in M innesota.

H e p la y e d h a lfb a c k and q u a r­ te rb a c k fo r th re e g rid sea­ sons and ca p ta in e d the 1928 eleven. He also le tte re d in b a ske tb a ll, b a se b a ll, a n d g o lf a n d is still an a vid g o lfe r a n d one o f th e state's best.

Eddie's first coaching jo b w as h a n d lin g th e 1929 G riz z ly Cubs. He coached five years a t M iles C ity and ten years a t M issoula C o u n ty h ig h b e fo re re ­ tu rn in g to the U niversity. His high school team s won fo u r fo o tb a ll cham pionships, w ere ru n ne rup tw ice, a n d finished in the sem i-finals tw o years. In ba sket­ b a ll he w on th re e state title s a n d seven conference crowns. He closed his high school coaching career w ith 22 s tra ig h t fo o tb a ll victories. As freshm an coach a t th e U. his C ub teams w on 13 a n d lost 3.

He was b o rn in M ich ig a n C ity, Ind., one o f nine sons. M a rrie d and has fo u r ch ild re n , E dw ard, a serv­ iceman,- M a ry M a rg a re t, 15; John, 13, a n d Lewis, 11.

Football Assistants A b o un cing b a ll o f fire on the p ra ctice fie ld is Line C oach John Zeger, C oach Chinske's top-notch assistant. Young and a g g re s­ sive, John has been a t the U niversity tw o years and dem ­ onstrates a th o ro u g h kn o w l­ e d g e a n d d e e p love fo r the game.

He was know n as "P a p p y " in 1946 w hen he cap tain ed the Huskies a n d w as chosen as an A ll-P a c ific C oast C on­ ference g u a rd . Z ege r entered the U niversity o f W ashing to n in 1939 and p la ye d fo o tb a ll under Jim Phelan in 1940 a n d '4 1 . D uring th e w a r he p la y e d w ith th e Fourth A ir Force fo o tb a ll team ,

finishing his e lig ib ility w ith th e Huskies, p la y e d a season o f p ro b a ll w ith th e N e w Y o rk G iants, and return ed to W a sh in g to n as an assistant coach. Dur­ ing the illness o f H o w ie O 'D e ll in 1948, "B ig J a w n " held do w n th e head line coach duties.

Just p rio d to com ing to th e U niversity, Z e g e r was head coach a n d an instructor in health a n d physical ed uca tion a t O ly m p ic JC. His fo o tb a ll teams there w on th e W a s h in g to n -O re g o n Ju n io r C o lle g e title three years in a row . A n a tive o f C h icag o, he was born Feb. 6, 1919, a n d a tten ded H arrison Tech high.

W ith o u t a d o u b t one o f M o n ta n a 's G re a t­ est o f O ld , H a rry starred in in fo o tb a ll, b a s k e tb a ll, and tra ck, g ra d u a tin g fro m th e U. in 1921. He was head coach o f a ll sports a t DePaul U ni­ versity, 1921-22, a n d returned a fte r one y e a r as assistant fo o tb a ll, ba sketba ll a n d tra ck coach. He becam e head tra ck coach in 1933.

He w as a m em ber o f th e 4 4 0 -y a rd sprint re la y team w hich a t one tim e held the w o rld 's record.

Aam s served in both W o rld W a rs, in the last as a colon el. He is a m em ber o f th e A d viso ry Board fo r the N a tio n a l C o lle g ia te Track Coaches Association.

Newest m em ber o f th e G riz z ly coaching s ta ff is 2 5 -y e a r-o ld R. L. Lefty e a rn e d nine letters in fo o tb a ll, b a ske tb a ll a n d base­ b a ll, 1949-50-51, w h ile w e a r­ ing th e S ilv e rtip colors. He was A ll-S k y lin e a n d A ll-A m e r­ ican h o n o ra b le m ention in fo o tb a ll his senior ye a r. He p la ye d professional baseball w ith th e S pokane Indians and the S a lt Lake Bees b e fo re re tu rn in g to th e University.

Everything M o n ta n a 's tra in in g fa cilitie s a re to d a y can be a ttrib u te d to N a seb y Rhinehart, a th le tic tra in e r, w h o to o k over th e in ju ry tre a tin g duties as a p a rt-tim e jo b in 1935. His kno w -h ow a n d his tra in in g techniques m ake him o n e o f th e most re­ spected am o ng th e tra in in g fra te rn ity a ro u n d the na tion . Besides his tra in in g du ties Rhinehart teaches classes in th e care a n d prevenetion o f injuries for th e d e p a rtm e n t o f health and physical education.

He cam e to the U niversity from M ilw a u k e e a n d was an ou tsta nding end in '32, '33 and '3 4 . . . he is still rated on th e A ll-T im e G riz z ly team .

Imer a ve ra g e d 8.2 yards per try last ye a r and ranked 18th in th e na ­ tion as a b a llc a rrie r. He also led the S ilvertips in k ic k o ff returns and p o in ts-a fter-tou chd ow n and was second in punt returns and pass receiving. "The Little P enquin" missed most o f three gam es because o f in ju ry last season, b u t w as a g ia n t a t 5 ' 6 " and 166 pounds. If he holds to g e th e r this season should be the league's best running back. S lip p e ry and p o w e r­ ful a t running, Dick lost y a rd a g e o n ly tw ice in 86 carries . . . losing 10 yards. He netted 703, and his 221 yard s in 22 tries a g a in st Denver was the best in the na tion fo r re g u la r season.
