Everything requires creepy crawlies, the gross and nasties, and a little bit of help from Mother Nature. Our personal food stories are the stories of us as individuals and as a society. From the very beginning, food has connected us to this good earth and each other. It has been interwoven into every religion, and every culture, and served as social currency between civilizations. It has nurtured our bodies, our minds, and our spirits. But today, something has gone very wrong.

Hidden Fire: The Great Butte Explosion On a winter’s night in 1895, Butte’s first company of professional firefighters prepared to suppress the flames in a burning warehouse. Republican Matt Rosendale is the incumbent receiving a challenge from three other candidates. Democrat Penny Ronning, Libertarian Sam Rankin and Independent Gary Buchanan are vying for the job. The district’s history helps provide context to the overall race. We also examine how farmers and ranchers are dealing with a multi-year drought in north-central Montana. How do they adjust to the long term trends of a chang ing climate?

The premiere episode investigates whether there is proper sanitary and safety standards for on-line vacation rentals in Montana. This business model has ex ploded across the state over the last five years. We also take a closer look at one of the ballot measures for the 2022 mid-term election. It is titled the ‘Born Alive Infant Protection Act’ and would mandate health care providers take action to preserve the life of fetuses/infants that survive attempted abortion.

TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 27

FRIDAY, 9/30 8PM Celebrate the recipients of the 35th annual Hispanic Heritage Awards.

winning-band Los Lobos is the first announced honorees this year and will be presented with the Hispanic Heritage Arts Award. The journey of the band began in 1973, when David Hidalgo, Louie Perez, Cesar Rosas and Conrad Lozano earned their stripes playing revved-up versions of Mexican folk music in restaurants and at parties. Los Lobos evolved in the 1980s as it tapped into L.A.’s burgeoning punk and college rock scenes. They enjoyed critical success early on, winning the Grammy® for Best Mexican American Performance for “Anselma” from their 1983 EP ...And a Time to Dance. A year later, the group was joined by saxophonist Steve Berlin and released its full-length, major-label debut, How Will the Wolf Survive?—which became a college rock sensation that helped Los Lobos tie with Bruce Springsteen as Rolling Stone’s Artist of the Year.

Daniel NeighborhoodTiger’s MONTANA PBS – HD: MON–FRI 9:30AM, SAT 5:30AM, AND SUN 7:30AM MONTANA PBS – KIDS: MON–FRI 8AM & 8:30AM, SAT & SUN 8:30AM We’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood with a week of new friends and new experiences! In the featured episodes, Daniel meets his new babysitter, O the Owl goes to a sleepover, and Jodi tries ballet for the first time. Starring 4-year old Daniel, this series recreates Fred Rogers’ original Neighborhood of Make Believe as a vibrant color and texture animated series. The series curriculum is school-readiness and social-emotional learning, and each preschoolthemed episode offers a musical strategy for children and parents to use together. 648

A former policy analyst focused on Latin American politics and history, Pati Jinich is a chef, cooking teacher, food writer and mother of three whose true passion lies in sharing the tastes of her childhood and culinary adventures in her native country. In each episode, Pati embarks upon an exciting and entertaining journey, where each dish serves as a point of departure into Mexico’s rich history and culture, Pati’s personal experiences, and her ongoing conversations with cooks in both Mexico and the United States. Each half-hour highlights a singular Mexican food—from familiar ingre dients like vanilla, avocado and chorizo to the mysterious grains used by the Aztecs and the adventurous and trendy cuisine found across Mexico today. From traditional takes on tomatillos to modern spins on huevos rancheros, Pati inspires viewers to make great Mexican dishes in their own homes.

Backroads of Montana 9/26 8PM; 9/29 7:30PM Also 10/1 5pm; 10/2 10:30am; 10/3 2:30am The Sugar Shack Diner is currently in Rudyard on the Hi-Line, but it has moved all around the area impacting each small community it served. We’ll take stock of a Blaine County woman’s collection that gives new meaning to the term “excess lighting.” Then we’ll go across the Kootenai River in northwest Montana without getting wet—strolling across an iconic swinging footbridge with a spectacular view. We will celebrate our planet’s reptilian past at the Carter County Museum’s annual Dino Shindig, and join local dinosaur enthusiasts and international paleontologists to uncover the past along the Montana Dinosaur Trail, with some family fun and dancing in the streets in between. John Twiggs hosts the program from the Madison County Fair in Twin Bridges.
