JUNE 20: Futurebirds Sponsored by Hungry Moose Market & Deli Hailing from the bohemian college town of Athens, Georgia, Futurebirds play laid-back country-rock with an atmospheric, psychedelic twist. The music is a patchwork amalgam of influences, including: twangy Southern rock (they’ve opened for the Drive-By Truckers), reverb-soaked psychedelia reminiscent of early My Morning Jacket or fellow Athens residents Phosphorescent, and soaring guitar solos à la Neil Young and Crazy Horse. The group began turning heads with the release of a self-titled EP, whose backwoods harmonies and pedal steel riffs helped earn them a contract with Autumn Tone Records. With the label’s help, Futurebirds booked time at Chase Park Transduction -- one of Athens’ most renowned studios and recorded Hampton’s Lullaby, released in August 2010. The group’s latest release is Hotel Parties. Special guest opening band: Dammit Lauren and the Well.

AUGUST 8: Town Mountain Raw, soulful, and with plenty of swagger, Asheville, North Carolina-based Town Mountain has earned raves for their harddriving sound, their in-house songwriting and the honky-tonk edge that permeates their exhilarating live performances, whether in a packed club or at a sold-out festival. The hearty base of Town Mountain’s music is the first and second generation of bluegrass spiced with country, old school rock ‘n’ roll, and boogie-woogie. It’s what else goes into the mix that brings it all to life both on stage and on record and reflects the group’s wide-ranging influences – from the Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia and the ethereal lyrics of Robert Hunter, to the honest, vintage country of Willie, Waylon, and Merle. Town Mountain’s latest album New Freedom Blues (2018) is full of new material and features several guest artists including Tyler Childers, who co-wrote one of the songs, Miles Miller (Sturgill Simpson, drummer), and other friends. Their prior album, Southern Crescent (2016), debuted at #4 on the Billboard Bluegrass Chart while staying for 10 weeks on the Americana Music Association’s radio chart Top 40, and widely considered one of the best bluegrass albums of that year. Big Music Festival BigSky SkyClassical Classical Music Festival The Big Sky Classical Music Festival is a three-day festival for people of all ages, and this year takes place August 9-11, 2019. This annual event showcases the best in classical music from around the world during two free outdoor performances in Big Sky’s Town Center Park, one ticketed indoor concert at the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center, a youth music camp, and master classes for student musicians. As one of the only classical music festivals in the region, it is essential to raising cultural awareness and promoting classical music in Montana and beyond. 2019 Performers include Dallas Brass and Guest Soloist Jonathan Gunn, clarinet. August 9: Join Angella Ahn, Yvonne Lam, Jonathan Gunn, Alexandra Osborne and John Eckstein at the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center for an intimate quintet recital that highlights the beautiful music of the clarinet. Highlights from this program include Brahms Clarinet Quintet in B minor, Op. 115 and the Weber Quintet for Clarinet & Strings in B flat major, Op. 34. As a co-artistic director of Eighth Blackbird, Yvonne Lam performs around 50 concerts a year internationally and has recorded three albums with Eighth Blackbird, including the Grammy-winning album Filament. Jonathan Gunn is a versatile artist with a varied career as educator, soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. Currently, Mr. Gunn serves as the Assistant Professor of Clarinet at the Butler School of Music at the University of Texas, Austin. Cellist John Eckstein joined the Utah Symphony in 1990 after previously serving as Associate Principal Cello of the New Orleans Symphony and Principal Cello of the Omaha Symphony, and joined the music faculty at the University of Utah in 1992. Australian violinist Alexandra Osborne enjoys a versatile career as an orchestral and chamber musician, solo artist, and teacher. She was appointed to the National Symphony Orchestra by Christoph Eschenbach as the youngest member of the violin section in 2009 and most recently was the Acting Assistant Concertmaster. Angella Ahn is the artistic director of the Big Sky Classical Music Festival and is a professional violinist and professor of violin and viola at Montana State University. She is also the violinist of the Ahn Trio. This is a ticketed event, and tickets can be purchased at www.warenmillerpac.org. Doors open at 6:30, performance starts at 7:30. August 10: Dallas Brass will perform a free outdoor concert in Town Center Park on Saturday, August 10. The concert starts at 6 p.m. with opening music from students in the

Montana State University Summer Music Conservatory, and Dallas Brass at 7 p.m. Since its founding in 1983 by Michael Levine, Dallas Brass has become one of America’s foremost musical ensembles. The group has established a unique blend of traditional brass instruments with a full complement of drums and percussion, which creates a performing entity of extraordinary range and musical challenges. The Dallas Brass repertoire includes classical masterpieces, Dixieland, swing, Broadway, Hollywood and patriotic music. In addition to their solo engagements, the Dallas Brass appears with symphony orchestras nationwide. Symphonic credits include the Cincinnati Pops conducted by Erich Kunzel, New York Pops conducted by Skitch Henderson, and the Philly Pops conducted by Peter Nero. The Dallas Brass has performed at Carnegie Hall, the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, and has toured overseas to Europe and the Far East. They have shared the stage with the late Bob Hope, have performed for Presidents Gerald Ford and George H. W. Bush, have appeared on the CBS “Early Show,” and their music has been used numerous times on the television show, “The Young & The Restless.” August 11: The festival culminates with a free symphony performance from the Big Sky Festival Orchestra with Maestro Peter Bay and soloist Jonathan Gunn (clarinet). This exciting program includes Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A Major, Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 in A Major, and two selections from Ravel (Le Tombeau de Couperin and Pavane Pour Une Infant Defunte). This is a free concert at Town Center Park, and starts at 5 p.m. Maestro Peter Bay has appeared with 75 BIG SKY different orchestras including the National, Chicago, St. Louis, Houston, Dallas, Baltimore, New Jersey, North Carolina, Tucson, West Virginia, Colorado, Hawaii, Sarasota, Fort Worth, Bochum (Germany), Carinthian (Austria), Lithuanian National, and Ecuador National Symphonies, the Minnesota and Algarve (Portugal) Orchestras, the Louisiana, Buffalo, Rhode Island Philharmonics, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the Eastman (Postcard from Morocco) and Aspen (The Ballad of Baby Doe) Opera Theaters, and the Theater Chamber Players of the CLASSICAL Kennedy Center.

AUGUST 15: Mt. Joy Sponsored by Moonlight MusicFest Mt. Joy started off as a rekindling of shared musical ambitions between Philadelphia high school friends Matt Quinn (vocals, guitar) and Sam Cooper (guitar). Reunited in Los Angeles thanks to the ebbs and flows of adult life, the pair met multi-instrumentalist Michael Byrnes through a Craigslist ad. They named themselves Mt. Joy as an ode to a mountain in Valley Forge National Park near Sam’s childhood home, and together, with Byrnes’ roommate Caleb Nelson producing, they recorded three songs and sent them out into the world, hoping for the best. Much to the band’s amazement, “Astrovan” accomplished the impossible. Without initial promotion or fanfare, the song took off on Spotify, racking up 5 million streams to date. Their follow-up singles fared even better, with “Silver Lining” going to the top of the Billboard Adult Alternative charts. Their debut, eponymous studio album was released in 2018. The band has since played some of the biggest music festivals including Bonnaroo, Newport Folk Festival, Lollapalooza, Treefort and Made in America. Special guest opening band: Upstate.

AUGUST 29: Ron Artis II and the Truth Sponsored by The Wilson Hotel by Marriott While developing his multiinstrumental prowess playing in the Artis Family Band, Hawaii-based Ron Artis II quickly took to piano and guitar as his main modes of expression. His mastery of both—in addition to numerous other instruments—quickly made evident that he was special. As he got older and played more around Oahu, others quickly recognized his gifts as well. Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac), Jack Johnson, Jake Shimabukuro and many others recognized the incredible talent that was taking root on their isolated island paradise. His debut full length album Soul Street just dropped in 2018 and has already garnered wide critical praise. OTHER EVENTS AUGUST 19: Montana Shakespeare in the Parks “Merry Wives of Windsor ” Montana Shakespeare in the Parks will perform the Merry Wives of Windsor at 5:30 p.m. in Town Center Park in Big Sky, on Monday, August 19. As one of the summer’s most anticipated events in the region, Montana Shakespeare in the Parks brings professional productions, at no cost to the public, to communities throughout Montana, northern Wyoming, eastern Idaho, western North Dakota and eastern Washington. Remarkably selfreliant, the company features 10 professional actors selected by national audition who tour without technical assistance to bring live theatre to communities primarily in rural areas. Montana Shakespeare in the Parks (MSIP) opened its first season in the summer of 1973. Since that time, MSIP has performed over 2,250 times to nearly three quarters of a million people, becoming a mainstay of Montana culture.
September 13-15: MountainFilm in Big Sky The fourth annual Mountainfilm in Big Sky is a collection of films meant to inspire and educate audiences to create a better world, curated by the folks at the Mountainfilm Festival in Telluride, Colo. This year’s event includes a feature film at the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center, a night of documentary films at the Lone Peak Cinema, and a free outdoor movie in Town Center Park. In addition, there will be kids’ activities, conversations with film industry professionals and other activities throughout the weekend.
