Going beyond the minimum with ZQRX Wool

In 2021 we partnered with New Zealand Merino Company to conduct a Life Cycle Assessment of our garment. While we know wool is an incredibly high performing natural material, our life cycle analysis shows that the biggest impact of our product comes from wool growing on farm. It is for this reason we are committed to sourcing ZQRX wool.

ZQRX is a regenerative platform that helps farmers work with nature to continuously improve human, animal and environmental outcomes.

ZQRX takes measurement beyond sustainability, promoting proactive regeneration and drives continuous improvement rather than aiming for a minimum standard.

Our Farmers

Tuohys Gully Station

Willy and Sarah Scurr along with their business partners Jo and Scott Jones run Tuohys Gully, 5,200 hectares of high country in the Cardrona Valley. Tuohys Gully supports positive biodiversity outcomes, including the NZ Falcon project, lots of tree planting, and participation in the Cardrona River Catchment Group to protect water quality. The farm regularly connects with the wider community, working with and hosting groups on-farm.

Tuohys Gully graze their ewes on the ski field over summer. Willie helped out when Cardrona was developed - there is a corner of the road called Scurr's Corner in his honour.

Spinning Textile Manufacture

Our wool is spun at Süedwolle. The company is regarded as a global leader for worsted spun yarn for weaving, circular and flat knitting in pure wool and wool blends. Certified with the latest eco certifications including Bluesign and Oeko-Tex standards.

Mons Royale is proud to partner with Shanghai Challenge Textiles (SCT), an innovative world class manufacturer specialising in Merino Wool. SCT is the first manufacturer in Shanghai to be awarded the new Chinese Environmental Certification.

Packaging Shipping Garment Care

We have phased out 90% of virgin plastic from our hang tags and accessories, replacing them with recycled and natural alternatives.

99% of all Mons Royale products are transported by container ship which on average has 20 times less CO2 impact than air freight. Apparel brands typically only use airfreight when they are running late. We avoid this by working with our suppliers ensuring we have the lead times to get to our retail partners on time.

This is all about you, the rider and how you wear and care for your garment. Merino Wool is a natural fibre, so wash and dry with care. Use non-abrasive detergents, warm to cool machine wash and line dry in the shade. Due to the natural anti-odour qualities of Merino wool, a Mons garment can be washed less which significantly reduces water usage.

A designer and a pro-skier - both Farmers, Hannah and Hamish Acland started Mons Royale in 2009.

Coming from high country farms in New Zealand, they both have a natural affinity for merino wool and the mountains in which the wool is grown.

Hamish’s skiing and Hannah’s design background combined with their farming roots have given the brand an authentic platform to design highperformance merino apparel for mountain sports. Hannah continues to lead the brand’s design direction with Hamish as CEO.

Their team of two has grown globally to over fifty staff across three offices: Innsbruck (Austria), Vancouver (Canada) and Wānaka (New Zealand).
