Contribution: formal and structural design, Revit modeling, rendering

The property is located on a corner that shares a major and busy avenue in the area.

Based on the study of the area, a mixed-use use for the building should be proposed, allowing the immediate needs of the neighborhood to be met. The presence of young people in the neighborhood is significant and the aim is to integrate them with the mixed-use project.

Geometrization in this project was very important and the use of IPR steel profiles and steel slabs were required for the structure.

Starting from two basic figures such as the square and the circle, we created a rigid form that resulted in a triangular shape that helped us achieve the conceptual design with the necessary support according to the type of terrain in this zone of the city.

HEROES

HOUSING COMPLEX

Location: Col. Guerrero, CDMX

Typology: Housing

3rd semester, August 2018

Professor: Mtro. Naoki Solano

Colonia Guerrero is a central area of Mexico City with a deep historical and heritage value. This project aims to analyze the multi-family housing that has been developed in Mexico City since the colonial period, consisting of terraced houses around a central courtyard.

Heroes Housing complex provide an innovative design for the new inhabitants of the city and explors new ways that shape the environment and the profile of the neighborhood.

A DIALOG BETWEEN OLD AND NEW

A horizontal housing complex is proposed on Héroes street, directly facing the historic Casa Rivas Mercado, a heritage building from the 19th century which has a contrasting orientation with the surrounding buildings in its urban context. The design of HEROES takes advantage of this unique disposition to create a cohesive environment.

The land is a plot located in front of Casa Rivas Mercado where there is currently a very deteriorated housing complex as a result of the emergency caused by the earthquake of September 19, 1985.

VOLUMETRIC APPROACH

CASA RIVAS MERCADO
FRONTAL FACADE (EAST)
NORTH UNIT ENTRANCE 1

The new complex housing that interacts with Casa Rivas Mercado has 6 green spaces, with the main design purpose of creating a micro climate in the project and at the same time to provide spaces where the residents can interact between each other and create community.

The garden in the frontal façade is also a gesture to pedestrians in the street to have a pleasant view

The current climate crisis that is experienced worldwide, mainly, and the proximity to El Valle del Mezquital in the state of Hidalgo by being part of this community, allowed the development of this research to be carried out, to investigate more about the traditional architecture of this region, since its incredible adaptation to the site and friendliness with the environment that characterize it are fundamental elements to consider in the constant architectural production.

The loss of traditional constructive knowledge of the Valle del Mezquital, derived from the loss of local natural species. Which, has led to the loss of identity in the community, were also reasons of great importance for the development of this research.

OBJECTIVE

To identify the biocultural knowledge in its material condition of the constructive system of the traditional architecture of natural fibers of El Valle del Mezquital, in the municipality of Santiago de Anaya in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico.

PROBLEM

Studying the Vernacular Architecture of El Valle del Mezquital has allowed me to understan community interactions, visualize the scope of architecture and the impact it has on the creation of communities and identities.

Why is there hardly any evidence of this type of architecture? Because it is a completely natural architecture, that is harmless to the environment, since once it has completed its cycle, it returns to the place where it was created.

ART WORKSHOPS

TOY DESIGN

Location: CDMX, Mexico and Virginia, US

In colaboration: Iree Garcia

Contribution: Design, hand sewing, planning and execution of workshops

As we both love nature and art, we enjoy designing and making puppets and animal figures by hand. Following a family tradition of artisans from Patzcuaro, Mexico.

We like doing workshops because we can connect with people. We have been working mainly with children and we are always impressed by their creativity, so we often learn more from them and get inspired to continue.

We have also provided some non-profit workshops for children in vulnerable situations.

The design process of each piece begins with the study of the object, analyzing its shape and background. The workshops focus on the process of creating a toy or piece by its users.
