Ryder “was a major influence on Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp,” according to Rolling Stone, and he and the Wheels served as a musical bridge between the Motown soul factory and the “take no-prisoners” rock ‘n’ roll world that would roar out of Detroit via the likes of Ted Nugent and Bob Seger.
