Monogram Co-Founder, Benjamin Put, places 3rd at the World Barista Championship in Milan, Italy
Calgary, AB: Monogram Coffee is proud to announce that co-owner Benjamin Put has placed third in the world at the 2025 World Barista Championship, held in Milan, Italy from October 17–20 Representing Canada for the seventh time on the world stage, Ben delivered a deeply personal and technically stunning routine that reflected both his skill as a competitor and his gratitude toward the coffee community that has shaped him
Building upon his Canadian National Championship–winning set, Small Pieces, Ben’s world routine was a continuation of his exploration into the people and relationships that have built him into the professional he is today It served as a love letter to the mentors, producers, and collaborators who have poured their knowledge, generosity, and care into his journey
Over the course of his 15-minute presentation, Ben prepared twelve drinks four espressos, four milk beverages, and four signature drinks designed to highlight not only exceptional flavour, but also the collaborative spirit that defines the world of coffee His routine wove together thoughtful storytelling and technical precision, capturing the essence of connection and shared wisdom that drives the craft forward
For his performance, Ben showcased three remarkable coffees from long-standing Monogram partners: a natural-processed Gesha from Finca Takesi in Bolivia, a meticulously produced lot from Finca Deborah in Panama, and a prized Gesha from Elida Estate, grown by the Lamastus family in Boquete, Panama Each of these coffees represented both extraordinary quality and enduring relationships, underscoring Ben’s belief that great coffee is the result of many hands working together
Ben’s presentation was as innovative as it was heartfelt His milk course featured a dual-temperature experience combining hot espresso and steamed milk layered over a frozen, freeze-distilled base, a sensory evolution that changed as the drink melted and mixed His signature beverage built on complementary flavours and textures, balancing delicate florality with creamy sweetness in a way that reflected both precision and emotion
Working closely alongside Jill Hoff, Monogram’s Director of Education and his long-time coach, Ben brought the same calm focus and curiosity that have defined his competition career Jill’s expertise and partnership have been a cornerstone of Ben’s preparation, and together they have built a legacy of excellence that continues to inspire coffee professionals around the world
This was Ben’s seventh appearance at the World Barista Championship, a remarkable milestone that cements his status as one of the most accomplished and respected competitors in the history of the event Placing third in the world is a tremendous achievement, and a reflection of years of dedication, experimentation, and community support
The World Barista Championship is the highest level of competition in the coffee industry, featuring national champions from over 50 countries Each competitor must prepare twelve drinks four espressos, four milk beverages, and four signature drinks while presenting a narrative that expresses their philosophy of coffee Judges assess taste, technical execution, and the competitor’s ability to articulate the story behind their coffee, making it one of the most demanding and celebrated events in specialty coffee
The entire Monogram team celebrates this incredible accomplishment Ben and Jill’s creativity, humility, and relentless pursuit of excellence reflect Monogram’s core values, inspiring imagination, connection, and care through coffee
