Empathic design was used to reimagine this 250 sq. ft single-patient hospital room. The design focuses on creating a comforting and restful space promoting healing through homelike design. FURNITURE

CONCEPT

Culturally responsive design was used to re-design campus housing for those coming to pursue higher education. A culturally inspired and familiar “home away from home” was created for students who came from South Korea by integrating traditional cultural elements in a modern and simplistic fashion. Inspiration was drawn from cultural practices, architecture, and symbols. Each piece within the space is multipurpose to create versatility and function.

FURNITURE

Each student was tasked with creating an organic, multi-purpose, and culturally representative piece of furniture. I chose to create a desk with storage.

Using traditional temples as an inspiration in union with the principles of simplicity and elegance seen in South Korean architecture, I created a dynamic workspace. The use of interlocking natural wood provides a modern take on tradtion.

A NEW LAYOUT

To honor the tradition of separation of space seen in South Korean culture, my team chose to alter the original floor plan. By moving the study area to the front of the dorm, providing opaque dividers, and including a built in closet under the bed, we effectively provided our client’s a space not only fit for fuction, but one honoring their customs.

DEWBERRY INTERNSHIP

SUMMARY

In the summer of 2024, I interned at the Dewberry Tulsa office, gaining experience across multiple project sectors and further developing my skills in design, client presentations, and project development. By generating renderings and signage plans, and collaborating with furniture and lighting representatives for the Grove Fire Station and Grove Police Facility, as well as applying this experience to the multi-story Ardmore Police Facility project, I enhanced my understanding of design communication and client collaboration, while contributing to the success of Dewberry.

HAND & DIGITAL RENDERING

CONCEPT

In my first year in the Interior Design Program at Oklahoma State, I was tasked with developing my residential hand and digital rendering capabilities. Throughout the first semester, I focused on perfecting the necessary skills of communicating ideas on paper, spatial planning, time management, and conjoining spacial planning standards and aesthetics. As we prepared for our proficiency review, I worked to implement the diligence I learned in hand rendering into my digital work.

AXONOMETRIC PERSPECTIVE

In learning to develop a functional floor plan and manually transform the 2D image into a 3D hand rendering including materials and finishes, I developed a comprehensive understanding of each stage of the design process. Additioinally, I continued developing a rendering style to communicate designs at a high level.

HOSPITALITY

CONCEPT

The renovation of the iconic Oklahoma State Atherton Hotel is inspired by the “Conscientious Cowboy”—one who upholds duty and embodies the heart of campus. With an orange analogous sunset-inspired color scheme, sustainable practices, new technology, and spaces for all ages, the design fosters inclusivity and creates a welcoming, home-like environment that reflects the honor of Oklahoma State.
