At first I didn’t want to go.
When I arrived in Arles in summer 2022 I lost my computer’s charger and had to find a place to replace it: the only electronic store I found was outside the historic center. I had to take the bus n°2 and passed by the “Coty” stop. There was something about this neighbourhood that interested me. Is it that what is called “la banlieue”? Maybe yes. maybe no. No passengers get off here unless you live here. Most people on the bus just want to continue their way to the shopping center. I made “Coty” the focus of this photographic project. Almost all photos were taken within a few meters of this bus stop. A group of gardeners were kind to me. A few young men a little further down the street watched me critically. I didn’t dare to explore the district any further. Finally I was approached by an elderly gentleman: it would be better if I watched out for the young men and drove back to the center. Nevertheless, I returned in the afternoon of the following day. I also took a few pictures at the starting point of the bus ride at the “Lices” stop. They form the beginning of the series.

En fait, je ne voulais pas y aller.
A mon arrivée à Arles j’ai perdu le chargeur de mon ordinateur et j’ai dû me rendre dans un magasin d’électronique à l’extérieur du centre historique pour en trouver en autre. En chemin, avec la ligne de bus 2, je suis passé devant l’arrêt “Coty”. Quelque chose dans ce quartier m’intéressait. C’est ca qu’on appelle “la banlieue”? Peut-être que oui, peut-être que non. Aucun passager ne descend ici à moins d’y habiter. La plupart des gens veulent juste continuer jusqu’au centre commercial. J’ai fait le “Coty” le centre de ce projet photographique. Presque toutes les photos ont été prises à quelques mètres de cet arrêt de bus. Un groupe de jardiniers m’a accueilli avec bienviellance. Quelques jeunes hommes un peu plus loin dans la rue m’ observaient d’un oeil critritique. J’ai n’ai pas osé explorer davantage le quartier. Finalement j’ai été approchée par un monsieur âgé: “il vaudrait mieux que tu te méfie des jeunes d’ici, rentres plutôt aus centre-ville”. Pourtant je suis revenue i’àprès-midi, le lendemain. J’ai également pris quelques clichés au départ du trajet à l’arrêt “Lices”. Il forment le debut de la serie.
