MONASH CORPORATE EDUCATION

Building brave leaders and courageous cultures

How do we develop braver, more daring leaders? How do we embed courage into our organisation’s culture, while navigating change and driving performance?

Based on the research of Dr Brené Brown, Dare to Lead™ is an empiricallybased courage-building course for leaders and change agents.

Dr Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston, where she holds the Huffington Foundation – Brené Brown Endowed Chair at the Graduate College of Social Work. She has spent the past two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame and empathy, and is the author of five #1 New York Times bestsellers, including Dare to Lead, which also debuted at #1 on The Wall Street Journal and Publisher’s Weekly lists.

Your learning journey

Dare to Lead™ is a face-to-face course delivered over three consecutive days. Four-to-six weeks after the course concludes, your facilitator will run a 90-minute online group coaching session for participants.

The most significant finding from Dr Brown’s latest research is that courage is a collection of four skillsets that are teachable, measurable and observable. Through Dare to Lead™ you’ll learn how to navigate your courage skills to strengthen your own leadership identity.

We’ll explore the importance of:

1. Rumbling with vulnerability

• How risk, uncertainty and emotional exposure are both courageous and vulnerable behaviours

• What’s at the heart of daring leadership

• Combating shame – a silent destroyer of culture and engagement – to ensure innovation and creativity thrive

• Empathy and self-compassion – building cultures of trust and connection.

2. Leading with values

• Operationalising your values, not just professing them

• Essential courage skills to engage in tough conversations

• Embracing the giving and receiving of feedback

• Learning essential boundarysetting skills.

3. Building trust

• Learn the seven elements of trust

• How to build trust into your teams and organisations

• Why self-trust is important

• How trust is essential to building meaningful connections.

4. Rising from setbacks

• Owning our stories to rise from setbacks and failures

• Understanding when we’re hooked by emotion – and how curiosity provides a rethink

• How and why the brain is wired for story

• Write your new ending and practise the practice.
