Longevity in Cows

dam on farm, but also his grand dam and great grand dam. Moogenilla J39, the great grand dam of Quinella has pregnancy tested in calf to her 2022 AI joining, so will be 10 years old when she calves, and still looks terrific. Moogenilla also has a number of 12 year old cows doing well in the herd. The structural integrity of these cows was what made Quinella so attractive, to go with his strong EBVs.

Structural soundness certainly allows cows to fulfi l their potential in the herd, no matter what type of environment they live in.

The Moogenilla cows live in relatively large, dry paddocks in Western NSW, so they have to walk and browse. Structural integrity is important no matter what environment the cows lives in. They might have to walk up and down hills, cope in muddy conditions, or walk long distances in pastoral areas. A truly functional Angus cow can do all these things, and of course have a calf every year.
