Erica will show you some basic sauces made from ingredients you may already have in your kitchen that you can use to add some real variety and flair to things you are already cooking or assembling. You will see the making of 5 sauces: Bechamel, Chimichurri, Pan Sauce, Asian Dipping Sauce, and Hollandaise.

Recipe Swap Date: Thursday, June 23 Time: 5:30 PM Instructor: Erica Etzler Location: Murrysville Community Center Fee: No Fee but bring your favorite recipe to share Dinnertime: A time when you connect with family and recharge.

Erica Etzler, Murrysville Mom, Volunteer, and food enthusiast, invites you to join her for a recipe and idea swap. Bring your favorite “go-to” recipe to share with the group! We will discuss recipes that work for us, and tips and tricks we use to get dinner on the table. Erica will review some clever ways to store recipes, including a few apps that make this simple. Snacks made with some wonderful foods from Murrysville Farmers’ Market Vendors will be served.

Possibly you pass them by and reach for your basic carrots, celery and potatoes. Variety adds interest and something healthy to the table! Let’s explore some of these less frequently used vegetables. Have you tried a turnip or some fennel? How about watercress? Or a chayote squash? Erica will show you how to use these while making an herbed cheese snack, salad, and soup we will all enjoy together.

Townsend’s Pipeline Purge: Saturday, September 17 Ages: 16 and Up Date: Saturday, September 17 Time: 7:30 a.m.

Spring/Summer 2022 Programs Ready, Set, Run! 5K

Playground Program Date: June 13 to August 5 Time: 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM Staff: Coaches Daniel, Kevin and Anna Ages: 6 to 12 Locations: Mondays & Tuesdays: Bear Hollow Park Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays: Murrysville Community Park Full-Season Pre-Registered Fee: $320.00 per child (all 8 weeks for just $8.00 per day) that’s $2.00 per hour!

Daily Drop-In Fee: $10.00 per day per child (no pre-registration required) Looking to spend the summer outside enjoying a variety of activities and fun with friends? Sign up for the Playground Program and you’ll have fun all summer long! Participants should bring a lunch and refillable water bottle each day. Please dress accordingly and provide sunscreen. Music Moves: Hop, Skip, and Jump

Have you ever wanted to run a whole 5K? Well, this is your chance!!

Join Coaches Jim and Susie to learn how to safely train to run a 5K in this non-competitive training camp, we guarantee you’ll have fun all summer long! The camp will conclude with all participants actually running a full 5K! This camp is sponsored by Pro Bike + Run and presented in conjunction with the National Alliance for Youth Sports.

Small Fry Scramble: Wednesday, June 15

Ages: 4 to 5 Date: Spring Session: Tuesdays, April 19 to May 24 Summer Session: Tuesdays, June 14 to July 19 Time: 10:00 - 11:00 AM Instructor: Erica Etzler Location: Murrysville Community Center Fee: $15.00

Ages: 12 and Under Date: Wednesday, June 15 Time: 6:30 PM Location: Townsend Park Fee: $15.00+

This is not a traditional dance lesson! The goal is to provide a place for kids ages 4 or 5 to spend an hour listening, enjoying, and moving to a variety of genres of music while interacting with each other.

We will have a set number of eurythmic exercises, emphasizing rhythm and movement to music to start each class and a few games to play. In each of the 6 classes, the children will learn about a different instrument, hear a well-known piece of music in which it’s featured, and create a fun dance to go along with it. Guitar, piano, violin, drums will be our classics, but we are branching out to some less usual ones, piccolo, banjo, and how about a didgeridoo?! Any comfortable clothing is perfect, no special shoes are required.

Townsend Park’s Small Fry Scramble is a non-competitive FUN run for children ages 12 and under. Ages 12 and under will have the option to run a half-mile, one-mile, or two-mile course, collecting stickers along the route! Volunteers will be cheering along the courses so that all runners are supervised during the entire event.

Parents are welcome to run along with their child. All “Scramblers” receive a custom t-shirt, race bib, swag bag and a post-race party.

All About Otters Date: Saturday, July 9 Time: 9:30 AM Instructors: Game Warden Mike Papinchak and Sue Miller Location: Murrysville Community Park, Wetlands Pavilion Fee: No Fee Sue Miller, Murrysville volunteer and passionate naturalist, is hosting All About Otters in collaboration with PA State Game Warden, Mike Papinchack. Learn about these extremely curious and playful animals that are found throughout most of North America. Sue will also talk about the Purple Martins that nest at the Wetlands.

Yank! Pull! Dig! Spray! Weeding is a gardener’s most dreaded task! But did you know that you can eat many common weeds like dandelions, Canada thistle, garlic mustard, burdock, even Japanese knotweed? Learn to use weeds as ingredients in your favorite recipes and eliminate the need for most herbicides, increase beneficial pollinators and brighten your attitude toward gardening as you actively search for edible weeds rather than fighting them. This program is presented by Barb McMillan on behalf of Penn State Extension.

Community Service Opportunities Share your Skills with US!

BESMART: Gun Safety Program Date: Wednesday, May 25 Time: 6:30 PM Instructor: Beth Foringer Location: Murrysville Community Center Fee: No Fee BeSMART for Kids is an educational public health campaign for adults about safe gun storage. The goal of the training is to prevent access to guns by children and other people who are at risk of harming themselves or others. Gun locks will be given away at the program.

World Cheese Taster Date: Thursday, October 20 Time: 5:30 PM Instructor: Erica Etzler Location: Murrysville Community Center Fee: $20.00 Standing at the cheese counter can feel daunting. There are so many different varieties, and many are from other countries. You may wonder which cheeses are for cooking and which go out on the table with fruit or crackers. Erica will explain the basics of how the cheese is categorized, stored and served. During our time together we will enjoy some world-famous cheeses that you may not have tried but may want to serve at your next gathering of friends and family. Everyone will go home with the ‘menu’ of cheese we sampled, and information about where to find these and how to serve them.

Questions: 724-327-2100, Ext. 131 or 115 Refund Policy: Refunds will be given only if a program is cancelled and not rescheduled. There will be no refunds given for programs otherwise, unless there is a medical reason. A 10% administration fee will be charged if a refund is given. A registrant cannot transfer his/her right to attend a program to another person.

COVID-19 Cancelation Policy: Full refunds will be given if a program has to be cancelled in order to comply with COVID-19 mitigation.

Resident Registration: All persons who pay their taxes to the Municipality of Murrysville pay resident fees.

Non-Resident Registration: Non-residents are all persons who pay taxes to any other Municipality, Borough, or Township. Non-residents are required to add a $5.00 surcharge per registration when registering.

Register Early: Don’t let a class be cancelled because everyone waited until the last minute to register.

Registrations will be placed in the order they are received. A late fee will apply at the date noted in the class description. Walk in registrations will incur a $10.00 fee. For mail in registrations, please use one registration form for each individual participant. You may register each person for more than one class on the same form.

Payment: Mail in, drop off or online registration is available. Checks or money orders must be made payable to the Municipality of Murrysville (MOM). For credit cards, register online at http:// murrysvilleparecreation.com/ and select online registration. A single payment may be made for all family members.

Attendance. Attend the first class as scheduled. NOTIFICATIONS WILL BE MADE ONLY IF A CLASS IS FILLED, POSTPONED OR CANCELLED. If you register online or include an e-mail address on application, you will be notified by e-mail of registration.

Class Cancellations. The Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel, postpone or reschedule any class that does not meet the minimum number of class participants. The Recreation Department also reserves the right to wait to cancel a class up to 2 days before the class is scheduled if the class does not meet the minimum number of participants. Every effort will be made to reschedule sessions due to unanticipated events or instructor illness. Rescheduling is not guaranteed.

Weather Related Cancellations of Single Classes: Cancellations will be announced on the Department Facebook Page, Murrysville Recreation Department. Channel 19 may also include cancellations. Feel free to call our office any time prior to 5:00 to confirm program status.

Insurance. The municipality does not carry insurance to cover hospitalization or medical costs for persons injured during the course of participating in or viewing of any of MOM’s programs or events. All participants enter programs at their own risk.

Accessibility. People with disabilities who require special accommodations that are registering for classes must contact the recreation office prior to the start of class so appropriate preparations can be made.

Do you have a special skill or certification? Have you always wanted to share this skill with adults or children, dreamed about teaching a class and now you finally have time? The Recreation Department is always looking for new classes to offer and we need qualified instructors.

Topics may include music, fitness, art, nature, or your own favorite hobby; the more creative the better! Call us to discuss volunteering; paid seasonal and part-time positions are also available!

Special Events We are looking for individuals and groups to help out at our special events throughout the year. If you enjoy fun in the sun, managing events and meeting new people, hang out with us for community fun! Volunteers often will greet guests, provide golf cart shuttles, assist with event setup, and so much more. Contact us today to learn more.

Parks, Trails, and Visitor Center Our beautiful parks and trails are maintained by volunteers, with larger projects provided by public works.

Help us keep the parks beautiful by volunteering to plant flowers, clear a trail, pick up trash, or be a greeter at our Visitor Center along the Westmoreland Heritage Trail.

March for Parks: Saturday, March 26 The 2022 March for Parks will have a more widespread opportunity to support parks and trails in Westmoreland County!

Participants can drop off their contributions any time between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. at seven different locations around Westmoreland County on March 26. Raise $30 or more and get an official MFP t-shirt or doggie bandana. There will be familyfriendly activities, games, booths and exhibits, and more; March/ walk/explore whenever convenient for you! Egg My Yard The Murrysville Recreation Department wants to egg your yard for your very own private egg hunt! Recreation staff and volunteers will visit your home to hide candy stuffed eggs in your front yard. You’ll be provided with a date and estimated time of the “egging” once registered. Select eggs will reveal prizes to be redeemed at local merchants. This event is only open to those who live within the Franklin Regional School District (Murrysville, Delmont, and Export). Easter Drive-Thru: Wednesday, April 13 The Easter Bunny will be hopping through Murrysville on Wednesday, April 13 with the Murrysville Recreation Department and the Murrysville Community Library at the Easter Drive-Thru. From 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Murrysville municipal building, drive-thru to say hello to the Easter Bunny and Yellow Chick and pick up a free treat bag (while supplies last). Look for the signs along Sardis Road near the municipal building complex . This event is FREE and open to the community, pre-registration is not required. Come out and spend an evening with your local emergency services featuring police, fire, and ems staff and equipment. Child fingerprinting, activities, giveaways, drug prevention awareness, and personal safety information will be just the beginning of the fun. Meet the Murrysville Police K-9 team! This is a great night for police-public interaction and camaraderie. National Night Out builds partnerships to promote community safety.

Murrysville Concert in the Park August 13 The fifth annual Concert in the Park will be held on Saturday, August 13 at Murrysville Community Park. Doors open at 3:00 p.m. and the first band will start approximately 4:00 p.m. with fireworks after the last band. Farmers’ Market: June 2-September 29 Thursdays 3:00-7:00 P.M. The 9th annual Murrysville Farmers’ Market returns Thursdays at the Murrysville Volunteer Fire Company field located at 3235 Sardis Road. The Market offers local produce vendors, baked goods, pantry items, fresh flowers and plants, honey, herbs, and weekly food vendors.

We’ll be celebrating National Farmers’ Market Week on August 4 with additional food vendors, live entertainment, and special activities at the Farmhouse Kids’ Club. Be sure to stop down on the last day of the market, September 29 for an end of season celebration. Entertainers, vendors, demonstrators and more are welcome. Farmers’ Market: Artisan Market Days Thursdays, June 30, July 28, August 4, August 25 and September 29 Shop with local artisans during Artisan Days at the Farmers’ Market on the last Thursday of each month and on August 4 to celebrate National Farmers’ Market Week. We are seeking artists and craftspeople creating one of a kind, hand/machine crafted goods that are locally designed and produced by the artist. Farmers’ Market Kids’ Club The Farmhouse Kids’ Club for ages 3-12 operates during the Market beginning June 9-August 25, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Members learn where and how our foods are grown through interactive weekly activities, crafts, and food sampling while earning coins to purchase their favorite healthy foods at the Market. Membership in the Kids’ Club is free and sign up is held at the Kids’ Club Booth at the Market. Volunteers and presenters to work with the Kids’ Club are needed; please call the Department for more information.

Sponsorship Opportunities Recreation Department special events and programs offer many sponsorship opportunities. Financial sponsorship of our events can reach thousands of customers across several counties through advertising for our many annual events, and sponsor participation is also welcome on site, allowing important customer interaction. Thousands of guests attend our almost twenty annual events throughout the year. A variety of support options are available.

Municipality Of Murrysville 2022 Clean-Up Week

Drive-Thru “Pop-Up” Glass Recycling and Food Pantry Donation Events

The Municipality of Murrysville’s residents may take items to the Valley Landfill on Pleasant Valley Road from Monday, April 25 through Friday, April 29, 2022, during the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturday, April 30, 2022, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Permit passes will be available from March 1 through April 29, at the Reception Desk, 4100 Sardis Road, Murrysville. Residents should note: • One permit pass per household. Proof of residency must be presented to the Municipal receptionist.

• One car or pick-up truck load per household. NO TRAILERS may be attached to a car or pick-up truck to haul items. Trailers will NOT be permitted to enter the landfill.

• Absolutely no commercial contractors and/or trucks will be admitted to the landfill to dispose of items. CleanUp Week is for residential items only.

• The following items are not permitted: No electronics, including TVs, computers, computer monitors; no tires; no batteries; no appliances with or without Freon e.g. air conditioners, refrigerators, de-humidifiers, etc.; no items containing liquids such as paint, oil or gas; no hazardous waste items; no pesticides; no free-flowing liquids; no whole trees or tree trunks; no large logs or tree stumps; no brush or tree limbs; no mercury containing items; no PCP containing items.

• The following items are permitted: Shingles, drywall, bathtubs, windows, cement block, patio stones, railroad ties, timber (treated or untreated), and furniture.

• This will be the only landfill clean-up event in 2022.

Drive-thru to recycle your glass bottles and jars while supporting Murrysville’s only emergency food pantry, Loaves and Fishes, with a non-perishable food donation! Volunteers will collect your recycling and food donations, with no need to exit your car! Sponsored by the Municipality of Murrysville and Republic Services, four “Pop-Up” Glass Recycling and Food Pantry Donation Events are scheduled throughout the year on the dates listed below, each from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Veterans Field parking lot, 4200 Sardis Road Murrysville, Pa. Murrysville Parks and Recreation Foundation The Murrysville Parks and Recreation Foundation, a 501(c)(3) corporation, supports the Murrysville Parks and Recreation Departments by soliciting funds through grants, gifts and donations to enhance existing facilities and to develop new programs, services & facilities. Your charitable donation will directly support park amenities, programs, and events. Thank you to everyone who has supported the Foundation thus far!

Current Projects With your help, trail stencils will soon be painted on the asphalt walking trail at Murrysville Community Park! These colorful, engaging stencil activities will provide a variety of images that everyone can enjoy. $1,000.00 has been raised towards the goal of $2,500.00 to install the project. Your donation of any amount will help to brighten the trail and encourage play and activity at the park.

“Bring Your Own Bags” to play cornhole at the park!

Permanent concrete cornhole boards will be installed this summer, with additional sets planned as they become available. Sets can be sponsored and will include a

business logo directly on the cornhole boards. Please contact the Foundation for sponsorship or to contribute specifically to this project.

Chalk the Walk Join us at Murrysville Community Park on Saturday, May 14 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to Chalk the Walk!

Decorate a section of the walking trail and help us raise funds to install fun trail stencils along the trail! Your $10.00 donation to this event benefits the Murrysville Parks and Recreation Foundation and provides you a 4’ x 4’ space on the trail to create your masterpiece. Chalk will be provided but feel free to bring your own. Proceeds benefit the Foundation’s trail stencils project at MCP. All checks should be payable to Municipality of Murrysville Security Deposits The security deposit fee is in addition to the rental fee. These funds are held at our office until after your event in case there are damages or additional cleaning is

needed. If the facility is found in good condition, the security deposit is returned to the renter.

Security deposits must be paid by cash or check only and must be received by mail or in person within 3 business days that the rental was made or the reservation will be cancelled.

Alcohol Permits For those who wish to secure an alcohol permit for the Community Center, Townsend Park or Sardis Park, a permit must be obtained when making your online reservation or by visiting the Municipal Building to complete the appropriate paperwork to secure the permit. There is a $50.00 application fee and a $350.00 refundable deposit required within 3 business days of the day the request was made or the request will be cancelled.
