Although there were 5.6 days suitable for fieldwork statewide, little progress was made with harvest. Some northern areas experienced the first frost of fall. Topsoil moisture supply was 28 percent very short, 34 percent short, and 38 percent adequate. Subsoil moisture supply remained the same as last week at 60 percent very short, 29 percent short, and 11 percent adequate. Field Crops Report Corn harvested was 92 percent, 15 days ahead of last year, and 46 days ahead of normal. Soybeans turning color and beyond were 91 percent, 2 days behind last year, but 2 days ahead of normal. Soybeans dropping leaves and beyond were 77 percent, 1 day ahead of last year, and 4 days ahead of normal. Soybeans mature were 51 percent, 1 day behind last year, but 1 day ahead of normal. Soybeans harvested were 20 percent, 2 days behind last year, and 1 day behind normal. Soybean condition was 33 percent very poor, 34 percent poor, 24 percent fair, 8 percent good, and 1 percent excellent.

Sorghum turning color and beyond was 94 percent, 8 days behind last year, and 4 days behind normal. Sorghum mature was 68 percent, 5 days behind last year, and 3 days behind normal. Sorghum harvested was 38 percent, the same as last year, but 1 day ahead of normal. Sorghum condition was 22 percent very poor, 37 percent poor, 30 percent fair, and 11 percent good. Winter wheat planted was 23 percent, 3 days ahead of last year and 4 days ahead of normal. Winter wheat emergence was 7 percent, 5 days ahead of last year and 4 days ahead of normal. Pasture & Livestock Pasture condition remained troublesome at 46 percent very poor, 25 percent poor, 26 percent fair, and 3 percent good. Supply of hay and other roughages was 57 percent very short, 30 percent short, and 13 percent adequate. Stock water supplies were 52 percent very short, 32 percent short, and 16 percent adequate. Weather Summary Temperatures were 7 to 10 degrees below average. Precipitation averaged 0.41 of an inch statewide.
