Photo of the month

A Mother’s Day walk through South Molton Community Woodland saw the bees, birds and butterflies out taking advantage of the warm sunshine, and it brings us our seasonal photo of the month from regular contributor Karolina Andreasova.

“A European honey bee is foraging for the first spring nectar from a blooming blackthorn. The sweet scented branches were buzzing with all sorts of pollinators,” said artist and photographer Karolina. “Photographing our most precious pollinators is a technical challenge, and pushes my camera and my reflexes to their limits. Beating their wings 230 times per second, bees are incredibly fast and effective on their journey. They never mix their harvests from different kinds of flowers, so what she’s carrying here is a pure blackthorn pollen. Clever!”
