Chittlehampton school could close
Doubts for future of Chittlehampton school
A consultation is underway over the future of Chittlehampton C of E Primary School due to falling pupil numbers. Founded in 1865, the school could close as soon as August 31st.

North Devon MP Selaine Saxby (above) visited the village recently and said the future looks bleak, “I do understand why this consultation is taking place but if it does close, it is likely to be closed forever which would be very sad.”

The school has a capacity of 56, but currently has only 15 pupils with five due to leave at the end of this school year.
Writing on Facebook, parent Rebecca MacMills said, “This wonderful school is so much part of the community, it would be a tragedy if it closes. The kind of caring and personal education that the children get is just so special - it really is worth saving if it can.” Mum Davina Haydon said, “The teaching is amazing at this school. My son is only in reception but has already learnt so much.” Stuart Govier added, “Such a shame. As a former pupil this is heartbreaking to read.”
The consultation ends on April 4th, and information can be found on the school website or online here: devon.gov.uk/haveyoursay/consultations/ consultation-on-the-future-ofchittlehampton-c-of-e-primary-school/
