Around the Traps
This week, Molong and district residents say "farewell" to popular couple, Kerry and Andy Hicks formerly of Molong Real Estate. Much-loved and respected, the happy couple have now left Molong to live in their permanent home in Port Macquarie and closer to family. Kerry (nee Dean) is Molong born and bred and lived with her family the late Tommy and Margaret Dean, and brothers David, Brian, Toby and Steven in Molong before marrying which eventually took her to Port Macquarie to raise her own family. Her mum and dad's health encouraged Kerry to return to Molong where after much 'love matching' by friends saw the then-single Kerry and Andy (a former Rural Bank teller in Molong) meet and eventually marry. Kerry became the owner of the Molong
Real Estate in Bank Street where she had previously worked in sales and reception. She saw the opportunity, purchased the business and with Andy's involvement became a successful biz owner/operator. Retirement, lovingly nursing her dad through his health challenges, the couple decided that, in time, Port Macquarie and closer to family would be their home. They left Molong last week, and no doubt this week they will be settling into their new home, greeting grandkids and family into their home, and walking along one of the delightful beaches taking a rest. We wish them all the best in their 'new life' safe touring, and great health. We will all miss you both!

Former and long-time Molong resident, Ruth Bigrigg celebrated her 90th birthday recently with family and friends in Bathurst.
Ruth, the daughter of an early settler farming family, lived and worked in Molong for most of her life.

A typist/assistant at one Bank Street's early solicitor families (Kinna's - now replaced by the YBM building), Ruth had impeccable skills.
After her marriage to Fairbridgian (the late Bill Bigrigg) Ruth raised her family of two, Jann and Peter - in the immaculate white cottage and gardens at the top end of Gidley Streets.
A great cook, housekeeper, wife, mother (not forgetting daughter and sister), and committed volunteer to the school, family interests - and in later years, the Molong Museum (founding member), Ruth set about creating a number of carefully typed history stories in the days of carbon paper, spirit and ink duplicators, and manual typewriters.
Ruth has been a long-time (forever) community volunteer supporting many school, clubs the Molong Uniting Church and the museum.
Ruth moved to Bathurst a few years ago to live closer to her family. She is still missed in Molong by her lifetime friends.
Son Peter, said: "Mum was thrilled to celebrate her special birthday with family and friends." Guests travelled from Molong, Cootamundra, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne to spend time with her.

Many of her new friends from her village also attended the morning tea. Peter said his Mum enjoyed having her six grandchildren and four great grandchildren with her.
Congratulations on your 90th Birthday
Ruth from your Molong and District, Family and Friends, Rozzi and Paul of the Molong Express, and Bob Sullivan and team of the Molong Historical Society
