In�ro�uc�i�� Design has always been an interest of mine, however my passion became extremely apparent upon visting Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, IL in 2016. I was facsinated with the fact that a space typically seen as a negative and stressful environment, could be so welcoming, vibrant, and healing for the users. I too wanted to design spaces that, no matter the use, could have an astounding positive impact on people, possibly without them even realizing it. Entering the design program at Endicott in 2018, I had a passion for design but a lot to learn. Over the last three years I have developed that passion and obtained ample design skills and knowledge to allow me to be successful entering my professional career as an interior designer.

Through a variety of projects highlighted in this portfolio, I have developed a strong understanding of concept development, schematic design and space planning, environmental psychology, sustainability, branding, wayfinding, and function, all of which have allowed me to create a variety of different designs. Each one of my projects has a different focus, however, my goal remains the same: creating a cohesive and functional space that creates the best experience possible for the user.

For this my healthcare design studio, I was tasked with designing a medical center for a client of my choice. The center was made up of two floors and included an emergency department, diagnostic suite, urgent care, and a short-term rehabilitation facility. Space planning was an extremely important part of this design as I needed to make sure I created a cohesive and functional space for the healthcare being provided.

CONCEPT:

Morning dew represents peace, hope, and a fresh start for each new day. When recieving medical care, patients need a sense of stability and comfort to help their bodies heal, and it is especially important that patients and staff alike are exposed to an environment that is designed to allow them to keep a serene, positive, and motivated mentality everyday.

SOLUTION:

The product of the design for Serenity Wellness Clinic in Chicago, IL was an environment that allowed all the individual spaces to work together in the center and ensure the best care was being provided.

Through an open and flowing floorplan on both floors, I created a path to each section of the facility that allowed patients and staff alike to feel comfortable and familiar with the space. Bright colors, natural light, and varied textures all played a role in creating an interior that was lively and promted healing.

OVERVIEW:

I was tasked with designing an office space for a certified B corporation of my choice. I selected Plum Organics, a leading sustainable brand producing baby food and snacks for children. The assigned site was the third and fourth floor of 5 Cambridge Center in Cambridge, MA. My design goals included creating a lively, youthful space that employees looked forward to coming to work at everyday.

CONCEPT:

A baby’s first step symbolizes hope and accomplishment and is a widely celebrated event all around the world. The repetition of footsteps and the asymmetry of the baby’s new stride will serve as an inspiration for this space, combined with the connotation of the event creating a postive environment for the office of Plum Organics.

Through the use of design elements such as company branding, wayfinding, and an open floorplan, I was able to design a cohesive and collaborative environment for Boston branch of Plum Organics. I kept the space youthful and fun through the use of the company’s vibrant color scheme and different patterns and textures throughout the design. A pod system was also used to allow for the most successful and collaborative working space possible.

OVERVIEW:

For this project, the city of New York has granted funds to this building to create a neighborhood branch library for the surrounding community.

This building consists of a total of 6 floors where it will serve as a multi-use public sector and educational facility. There is a gallery and lecture hall located on the basement level, a restaurant and cafe on the entry level floor, a library making up the second floor, and 3 floors of educational spaces and classrooms above that. This building is accessible to all members of the community, however educational floors will be accessed using a seperate elevator for security purposes.

NOOK NYC is a multifunctional building that will be designed for all members of the New York City comminity, so my goal for this design was to create a safe, comfortable, and educational environment for all.

CONCEPT:

The design for NOOK NYC is based off of the four seasons of the year. This concept puts a large focus on biophilia within the design and “bringing the outside in”. The varied textures, colors, and layouts of spaces brings the the environment to life and gives depth and energy to the design. NOOK NYC will be a space that allows all different demographics of users to create and personalize their own experience that may differ from somebody elses, much like the four seasons.

By creating a design that was unique in each space inspired by a different season of the year, I was able to create a space that was enjoyable and accessible for people of all agesallowing them to create their own experience in the multi-functional space.

OVERVIEW:

For my introduction to retail design, I was tasked with designing an incubator pop up shop for an etsy brand. I chose the company Glas& Glas- A Modern Minimal Glass Design company ran out of Oud-Turnhout, Belgium.

CLIENT:

15 years ago, Noor Springael began working with glass, and immediately found her passion. Noor went through restoration training at an Academy in Antwerp, Belgium, and following that, took a course on glass fusing to expand her craft. Her true passion is restoration and design of stained glass windows, but Glass & Glass also creates jewelry and home decoration to add diversity and character to the business.

With the small space provided, I created a bright, lively, and concise pop up shop for the Glas&Glas brand. The design includes a custom made cashwrap, with an attached workstation, a combination of built-in, and free standing displays, and a vibrant stained glass accent wall to draw the attention of guests and to stay true to Noor Springael’s original passion in the glass industry. There is also a small station for guests to take polariods in front of the glass wall for a featured “Instagram Moment” to draw customers in.

OVERVIEW:

For this project, I was provided with a vacant space in the Lynnfield Marketplace, and tasked to create a multi-use lifestyle retail design.

I had to include retail and education together into one cohesive space, so I chose to create a design that was a cafe/bakery, as well as a cooking school.

CONCEPT:

A coffee cup symbolizes warmth and comfort which is the main goal for the design at IntoView Baking Co. I want to convey a sense of community and inclusion throughout the design, while providing a fun and original twist.

SOLUTION:

I was able to create a design for IntoView that was cohesive and useful for both retail and educational purposes. With seperate entries into the bakery and the cooking school, each space could be used independently, however a glass door between the two spaces created a welcoming connection and invitation for guests to check out the other part of the design.

CONNECTION TO NATURE

OVERVIEW:

For this project, I was tasked with renovating a 3 acre horse barn from 1843 into a residential space for a family that is recovering from the loss of a loved one. My clients, Julie Clark and her son Vincent, are moving from the city life to Randolph, Orange County, Vermont.

CONCEPT:

My concept is the Healing Hand, also sometimes known as the Shaman’s Hand.

This symbol represents healing and protection, is thought to have therapeutic energy. This concept will set the tone of the home and help to create a warm, healing, and comforting space in the Clark’s time of need.

SOLUTION:

I was able to create a home for the Clark Family that was open, airy, and serene. I used cool tones to create a light and bright space that still feels like home. The extensive outdoor porch design gives the family a space to enjoy the outdoors and connect with nature to find healing and peace.
