SITE CONTEXT & LOCATION:

A Mixed-Use High Rise Tower is proposed to be developed in a site of 3 Acres on OMR near Sholinganallur. Considering the requirements in the area it is proposed to have a mixed use of Office space along with shopping in it.

The idea of the conventional office is completely stripped of its formal essentials, and reinvented to be a dynamic, versatile and lively space fostering innovation and creativity in users.

While serving its purpose of being a work environment, the design needs to be evocative enough to radicalize how office buildings are looked at; and serve as a model that critically questions the present day functioning of the mixed-use office ‘workspace.’

SITE PLAN

MASSING EVOLUTION:

The concept is to eliminate closed atrium by creating an open space at the center of building. The entire concept is based on integrating central plaza to form an informal activity zone giving a visual as well as physical connection between the blocks.

Basic rectangle form to avoid any type of Anti space and increased usable space.

Form is carved from center to form a plaza and from the rear corner to create a porched entry.

Addition of blocks according to the required space for office use

The blocks are separated based on their function, the first three floors consist of retail shopping complex with various outlets and many kiosks. The fourth-floor consist of food court and Back office. The tower consists of multiple coworking space for various purposes.

This plan consists of small office spaces with separate conference hall and outdoor terrace interaction spaces.

This plan consists of small and medium office spaces with outdoor interaction on the both the ends of the tower.

SITE CONTEXT & LOCATION:

Site Area: 28 Acres

Site Location: Madhavaram: Chennai - Srikakulam Highway Opposite St Annes college

SITE ANALYSIS:

The proposed school of Architecture and Planning is desirous of meeting its academic mission reflecting in a manner that is socially, economically and environmentally sustainable. Concept of sustainability, green building and ecofriendly and energy conscious component are to be laid as main principle while deriving the design. By analysing the site, I have come to know the noise zone area and quite zone to place the building for a noise free zone.

SITE CONTEXT & LOCATION:

The site is located on a prime location national highway (NH16) that runs from Chennai, along the east coast to Kolkata.

Initial stages of design represented as conceptual massing images of the academic block.

By knowing the direction of the sun, I have placed the longer side of the façade towards north and shorter side towards south

ACADEMIC BLOCK MASSING STRATEGY:

Initial stages of designs are started with basic cubes and cuboids with the concept of addition & subtractive form.

The longer side of the building is oriented towards the north & south direction to avoid harsh sunlight from east & west.

The opening created in the centre channelizes the wind to and fro into the building.

Cut openings or open courtyards provided in each block to increase ventilation and bring in more sunlight into the building.

Each block is connected to each other for easy access to the other block without getting out of the building.

Final form achieved through the concept of addition and subtraction of forms. GROUND FLOOR PLAN

Campus and its buildings should reflect its uniqueness through form and patterns maintaining balance between public and private spaces, encouraging visual connectivity, hierarchy of spaces and responding to micro climate

An attempt to create a suitable learning environment for a creative institution has to be the central consideration in this proposal of the campus.

SITE CONTEXT & LOCATION:

The site is located in a prime location surrounded by 3 sides water which has the apt attributes of building a resort. The site itself complements the surroundings of the resort as a natural feature left to be untouched.

The site is located at the Vembanad Lake which is popular for hosting many water sport events every year. The main concept is to use the site as an advantage of its view points and its lush green landscape.

USES & DESIGN PROGRAM

PROPOSED SITE

A self-contained destination that provides all of the travel needs in one location .Food, drinks, entertainment, shopping, and other activities all without needing to leave the property.

The resort consists of 5 different types of dwelling units, 2 types restaurants, activity center, botanical park, mini golf field, ayurvedic center and water sport facilities etc.

PROPOSED SITE PLAN

The planning is done in such a way that all the dwelling units face the water body for the stunning view of the vembanad lake. The concept is to use the site features as an advantage and modernize traditionalism. A artificial man made lake is created for more aesthetic value and appeal. The edge tip of the site has an Infinity pool which gives the feel of lake merging with the resort. The is well connected by roads and is easily accessible from all sides even by ferry through lake.

This type of villa consists of 2 floors -ground and first floor. The ground floor consists of a living room and the bedroom is placed on the top floor for better view of the shore and lake.The unit is placed at the gulf areas of the site and staggered in a way that all the units achieve panoramic views of the water.

The Ayurveda or the spa is the center of attraction as kerala is famous for ayurveda and traditional treatment. Ayurveda center consist of personal treatment rooms, couple treatment rooms, outdoor treatment area, A deck overlooking the lake for relaxation and SPA facilities etc.

The reception is designed perfectly to match the style and concept of modern traditionalism with open free flowing plan. A traditional pitched truss roof and modern furniture gives the best relaxation feel to the design.

The open courtyard gives the feel of openness and gives a calm feeling while having an outdoor treatment.

A luxury stand alone villa with a private pool. These rooms offer an unobtrusive view of the tranquil and generous water body. Wake up to placid blue waters which melt into the horizon, and dream of the shimmering incandescent reflections at night.

The Villa Accommodates 2 Occupancy With 85 Sqm Of Space With Private Pool Provided With Bamboo Batens Around For Privacy Is An Ultimate And Perfect For Relaxation.

These are specially designed for guests with a family. These villa consists of 2 spacious rooms, a living room, dining, private pool with a deck overlooking the sea.

The planning is efficiently done in such a way that both the rooms and the common areas overlook the sea.

LANDMARK: less than 50m to Nungambakkam police station.;

Apartment - the “contemporary urban dwelling” defines the residential quotient of the city fabric. In the urban context apartments are an ideal interpretation of a self-contained domicile. Apartment living has a strong social connotation where the building of space triggers human interactions and fosters communal living

MASSING STRATEGY:

These blocks represent the 2 towers of the apartment.

One block is tilted in order to achieve maximum airflow between the two blocks.

These two blocks are connected by an interactive space as podium. The final form achieved by requirements and air flow considerations into the building.

Apartment Design is intended to create a private residential domain that reflects contemporary lifestyle, comfort, aesthetics and the personality of its inhabitants. Apartment design takes shape from the axiom of personal living space and the multitude of activities that occurs among the inhabitants. The basic approach in looking at the apartment: first is from the functional approach that an apartment is a home and second - an economic approach as that of an asset.

SITE CONTEXT & LOCATION:

Chennai, over the last 350 years, has evolved from a group of fishing hamlets and villages into the administrative and commercial centre of the Madras Presidency during the colonial period, and the capital of the State. The city gradually grew with the fort as the nucleus incorporating old settlements like George Town. There is a strong case for urban renewal to revitalize these decaying residential settlements which are at the inner core of the city.

To the north of Fort St. George is the George Town, a bustling commercial area, one of the CBD (Central Business District) of modern-day Chennai. George Town has a history going back to the early years of Fort St George.

DESIGN PROGRAM:

To consider Heritage Urbanism as a means of revitalization and enhancement of cultural heritage in spatial, urban, and landscape contexts, and to explore models for its inclusion in contemporary life. Heritage should not be viewed as isolated objects but rather as part of the immediate and wider environment.

The context/environment affects heritage and its revival, while finding new uses and re-purposing heritage to produce a stimulating effect on the environment and its development. The effects of this interaction can make heritage recognizable and can stimulate its sustainability The survival and future of heritage should be linked to urban and spatial planning, which takes into account the integrity of space and the cultural heritage in it.

To prepare a comprehensive urban revitalization plan and urban intervention Proposals for George Town.

PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE DESIGN:

The proposal aims to transform the bridge into an eventful elevated park crossing the city offering a unique urban journey through one of the densest areas of chennai.

URBAN PLAZA: PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE:

Interim public plazas transform underutilized areas of roadway into public spaces for surrounding reside -ents and businesses. Using low-cost materials, such as epoxied gravel, movable planters, and flexible seating, interim public plazas reconfigure and revitalize intersections that might otherwise be unsafe or underutilized. Like parklets, interim public plazas are the result of a successful partnership between the city and a neighbourhood group or business association.

The bridge extends over a kilometer in length as an elevated platform offering unique urban views from one of the most representative areas of chennai.

The bridge is provided with multiple entrances to make it easily accessible for the users from any part of the bridge.

The bridge have openings in between so that the road below is not fully covered and also acts as a see through feature for the viewers

URBAN PLAZA:

Public plazas have the potential to: Make intersections safer, more compact, and easier to cross for pedestrians. Slow traffic speeds and mitigate potentially dangerous intersection conflicts.

Activate a public place by reclaiming space unused or underused by motorists. Energize surrounding streets and public spaces, creating foot traffic that can boost business and invigorate street life in a neighbourhood.

Bridge Cafe is a small cafe located beneath the grand robson square ramp blend staircase. The Cafe offers an indoor seating and outdoor seating for the public and also has a elevator facility to reach to the top, which leads the public to the Pedestrian Bridge

DESIGN BRIEF:

The proposed building is to be converted into a primary school. The interiors and exteriors of the building’s needs be altered and changed according to the requirements and regulation norms provided. The school building consists of classes from kinder garden to fifth grade, a principal room, staff rooms, prayer hall, labs and terrace play area.

The front facade is designed keeping in mind the requirements to provide balconies with glass rails and a huge stick on glass that covers the double height space for maximum lighting.
