HIVE EARTH STUDIO

I get InvoIved with the Production Team at sharjah architecture Triennial on this project for SAT 02. The artist’s idea was to make an installation to remind the people about the Reminding people of the importance of such technique and how it can be environmentally friendly using natural materials and aggregates from different places in the Emirates. Drawing upon the challenges posed by limited resources across the global south, the wall becomes an extremely model for adapting design to foster a more harmonious ecological future.

AGBO-OLA

The temple is design to have a dia logue between the nomadic structures of Africa, Native American Indians, and UAE. As visitors walk through the temple they are invited to experience the perspectives and beauty of non-human entities, while showing down to reverence the presence of sacred mountains. This element of contemplation is induced by the burning of bakhoor and insect in the temple as a collective ritual. There is also a sound work that is connected to the piece which acts as the voice of the temple. Agbo-Ola’s sonic work draws from research into ritual, shamanism and the practices of healers, that can bring new and deeper connections to our ecological environments.

ASIF KHAN -

The film falls in two parts: before and after the emergence of human life on Earth. The two parts are projected facing each other on opposing walls, placing the visitor, and therefore human life, at the centre of this narrative. A mirrored floor reflects the moving images beyond the ground, symbolising the latent energy of life in Earth beneath us. In the final moments of the film, a living plankton attempts to consume a sphere of microplastic, which eventually kills it. In conclusion, this is the beginning of the end.

The project takes the form of an inflatable bounce castle made of animal hides of the fat-tailed Awassi sheep, an indigenous breed of the southwest Asia. The proposed structure emulates a familiar womb to examine the origins and evolution of shelter by juxtaposing modernity and tradition through a material lens. The work appropriates the form of an inflated bounce castle, substituting its synthetic plastic surface with discarded hide material of the fat-tailed Awassi sheep. This particular breed of sheep is a central figure in the human narrative, traditionally within the contexts pastoral imagery, biblical fables, and ritualistic practices of Abrahamic religions, bred in Western Asia region for over five thousand years.

In the landscape of Senegal’s tropical Sahel, in the South of the Sidhiou Region, Diobene and Massaria is the location of Elementary school project. The selection of the site is based on certain studies done, where the location chosen was empty farmland parcels between 3 small villages lacing services. The design of the project is children and elderly friendly, as the project aims to serve all ages. Where children arrive to school in the early morning and conclude their day in the afternoon, in the evening elder people visit the school to have literacy classes and share their knowledge and discussions, thus the project helps to eliminate illiteracy from the community. The empty rectangular farmland parcels create the concept of the strips, further site analysis like weather create the shifting of the buildings to enable the cold wind to stream through the courtyard and facilities of the school. Staff village is designed to accommodate teachers and staff who will be arriving in the town. Rainwater harvesting, solar energy and farming are the solutions used to create a sustainable elementary school and make it last in the long-term.

The design of Ananas units is centered around a biodiversity approach, avoiding disturbance to island mangroves and habitats. Influenced by natural elements, the units use a neutral material palette to blend with the beach environment. There are 53 bookable accommodations, including special beach units and water units, discreetly placed along the shoreline. The interiors feature tiled floors, carved wood paneling, dark wood furniture, and retro rattan headboards with Egyptian cotton sheets.

The units maintain a connection with the indigenous surroundings through a natural color palette and locally-sourced materials. They are constructed in Nassau, with photovoltaic panels generating energy, on-site

water purification, low-flow faucets, and dry toilets to minimize water waste and pollution. The off-site building process utilizes prefabricated components, mainly steel and hardwood structures.

Floating units are built on a concrete honeycomb structure with piled foundations, allowing them to rise in response to flood risks. Some units near the beach have gardens, and the backside of beach Cabanas is designed for privacy and optimal views, featuring vertical wooden screens. Bicycles and walking maps are provided for exploration, and guests can enjoy activities like sunset cruises, kayaking, snorkeling, and diving.
