The City: Al quseir has an unique position due to its proximity to the Nile River and known in Ptolemaic times as the White Harbor. It has a long history as one of the major ports of the Red Sea.quseir was where queen Hatshepsut set off from on an expedition to the mystical African land of Punt, as depicted in the reliefs in Deir el-Bahari temple at Luxor. Legend has it that the expedition returned with two live panthers and 31 incense trees. The 16th century fortress of Sultan Selim, still standing in the center of town, shows Al-quseir’s former strategic importance. On top of that, it was also a major point for pilgrims leaving for Mecca, as well as a significant trade route for spices from India to Britain.

Al quseir History The city was known as the White Harbor in the Ptolemaic times. Several civilizations during the past four thousand years have used this remote outpost on the Red Sea coast as a starting point to go exploring, expanding and trading with remote lands.

When the Roman Emperors ruled Egypt, Myos Hormos, the Roman name for Al quseir, became the main gateway to India and East Africa.

During the peak years of the Roman rule, around 20 AD, an average of 120 ships per year set out from Myos Hormos to India in order to bring luxury goods such as silk, spices, medicines, pearls to Egypt, while exporting wine, fine pottery, glass and precious metals.

04.The City Gate In the shape of the future with inspiration of the past

The idea focus on three main aspect which are heritage inspiration, structure aspect and environmental aspect.

Heritage inspiration: from the common culture and style of the building in the city of tents and domes...

Structure aspect: as the reverse tension structure makes the best compression structure. Simulating that idea with a number of points as the main supporting fixed points. moving the points allow for various solutions of the main idea... environmental aspect: the structure form itself and the dynamicity of creating it with main hinged structure points intersecting with varies floors allow it to work as courts for daylighting as ventilation purposes..

Optimization : with optimizing the main structure mass depending on the main environmental inputs such ass building energy use , daylighting and thermal comfort of the building inhabitants with inputs of simulations such as the positioning of the main hinged points, the glazing ratio and the Orientation of the building Gives us the optimum solution of the building performance
