n September of 2017, Dr. Alexander Volpi put a ring on the finger that Johanna Kilbride fractured the night they first met. The two were attending Wake Forest University when Johanna had tumbled down a flight of stairs in front of her future husband. Alex, who is now a third-year resident in orthopaedic surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital, had checked her finger and urged her to see a doctor. Alex moved to Philadelphia in 2010, but remained in touch with Johanna and surprised her with a visit in the spring of 2011, when they started dating. Upon Johanna’s graduation the following year, she moved to Philadelphia, where the couple remained while Alex attended Drexel University College of Medicine. Several years, a medical degree, and one healed finger later, Alex proposed on the beach at the edge of Nassau Point in Cutchogue, New York. Her parents, Kathleen and David Kilbride, currently reside there, but for more than 20 years lived in New Canaan, where Johanna, now a Project Manager for a Digital Marketing Agency, was raised. Alex is the son of Dr. Deborah Pilla and Dr. David Volpi. The ceremony was officiated by Reverend Dr. Peter J. Kelley and held in First Presbyterian Church in New York, the same place Johanna’s parents were married more than 34 years ago. Peconic Bay Yacht Club hosted the reception. The newlyweds currently live in New York City, but took a break from urban life for their honeymoon in Antigua. –Molly Liebergall
