The senior earned allAmerican honors with a· career-best 15:10.4, which placed him sixth in the Foot Locker National High School championship. He dominated local competition this fall, and was second at state by one-half second.

Merkel led the Bombers to a unanimous No. 1 in the Enquirer coaches poll and seven invitational wins. St. X swept the GCL-South and district meets before placing second at regionals and fifth at state.

Another 1993 secondteamer, the senior finished 18th at state (16:24). He won the Princeton Invitational and ran a career-best 16:02 in the Granville Invitational. He placed 28th in the AAU Junior Olympic Meet.

A repeat Enquirer first-teamer. Cooney won three invitationals, including a season-best 15:41 in the GCL-North race. He placed second at districts, fourth at regionals and 27th at state.

This freshman, the lone non-senior All-Star, became the only ninthgrader in the region to qualify individually lor state. He finished 33rd in 16:41 , the second-highest freshman finisher.

Tracy Simmons Lakota A dominant player at the net, Dissel was the catalyst in the T-Birds' drive toward the Division I state championship. She led the team in kills and was named first team All-State and MVP of the Greater Miami Conference.

Simmons molded the T-Birds into a solid outfit that won the Division I state championship. In just four years, she turned the program around, compiling a 9231 record and 26-1 in 1994.

Renee Scheidt Mt. Notre Dame A junior middle hitter, she was the dominant Ioree, leading the Mounties to the Girls Greater Cincinnati League championship for the second consecutive season. She was a first-team All League selection.

Cara Espelage Walm11t tllills A two-year starter and a junior, she led the Lions to the sectional ' and district championships. She was a first team selection in the Girls Greater Cincinnati League for the second time.

The player of the year in the Queen City Conference, she led the Eagles to the league championship lor the second consecutive season. She also led the team in kills.

Kelly Schoenhofi Ursuline A senior middle block· er, she teamed with Jen Mclaughlin at the net, giving the Lions one of the most feared front lines. She was also an all-league selection and second in kills.

Leslie Dissell lakota A junior outside hitter who was an Enquirer AllStar as a sophomore, she led the Vikings in kills and was named first team in the Greater Miami Conference for the second year.

Orr1e of the most und<trrated outside hitters in Cincinnati, she learned at the net with her )70unger sister, Lisa, leading the T-Birds to a 26-1 record and the Division I state championship.

The player of the year in the Girls Greater Cincinnati League Gray Division and a first-team Division II all-state seleclion, she led the Bulldogs to their second consecutive state championship.

She was named the Division II state coach of the year lor guiding the Bulldogs to their second consecutive state championship. She was also GGCL coach of the year, winning the league title for the second conseculive season.

A 6-1 senior middle hitter who was voted the MVP in the Miami Valley Conference, she dominated at the net, leading the Indians to the league championship with Ioreefull<ills and good blocking.

A 6-1 senior middle blocker and attacker who will play for UC next season, she teamed with Beth Osterday and Kathy Kirby to give the Bulldogs the strongest front line in the state.

The Player of the Year in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference, she led the Indians to the league title and an impressive 19-2 record. A standout defensive player, she was also strong at the net and was the team's best hitter.

The Coaches Association Co-Player of the Year and a first-team selection in the Girls Greater CinCinnati League, she filled the allimportant role of setter on the team.

The most underrated Division II player in Cincinnati and the most consistent, she led the Cavaliers in kills while providing the inspiration lor her teammates.

One of the driving forces behind the Bulldogs' Division II state championship run, she could hit above the block. She has a 30-inch vertical jump.
