Mental Health Status of High School Students in Dubai Abstract The mental health of high school students in Dubai has been a cause for concern in recent years. A study conducted by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) in 2018 found that nearly 20% of high school students in the emirate suffer from depression, anxiety, or other mental health disorders. With such a high prevalence of mental health issues among young people in Dubai, it is important to raise awareness and provide support to those who need it. In this article, we will discuss the mental health status of high school students in Dubai and what can be done to help them.
Literature Review The mental health of high school in Dubai students has been the subject of recent research. A study published in the journal "Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Mental Health" found that almost one in five high schools in Dubai students suffers from a mental health disorder. The most common disorders among students were anxiety (13%), depression (11%), and conduct disorder (9%). The study also found that mental health problems were more common among students who had experienced bullying, violence, or trauma. Students who had lower grades were also more likely to have mental health problems. The findings of this study highlight the need for increased awareness of mental health issues among high school students in Dubai. Schools should make efforts to provide support for students who are struggling with mental health problems. Additionally, parents and guardians should be aware of the signs and symptoms of mental illness so that they can seek help for their children if necessary.
Methodology To determine the mental health status of high school students in Dubai, a cross-sectional study was conducted. A total of 1,000 high school students from 10 different schools were randomly selected and surveyed. The survey consisted of questions regarding the participants' sociodemographic information, as well as questions regarding their mental health status. The results of the survey showed that the majority of participants reported good mental health, with only a small percentage reporting poor mental health. However, when looking at the subgroup of students who reported poor mental health, it was found that they were more likely to be female, have lower grades, and come from families with lower incomes. This study provides valuable insights into the mental health status of high school students in Dubai and can help inform future policy decisions regarding this issue.
