PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

THE MISSION OF THE MUSEUM OF DISCOVERY AND SCIENCE IS CONNECTING PEOPLE TO INSPIRING SCIENCE.

WELCOME TO THE 2023–2024 SCHOOL YEAR!

Imagine what new discoveries await! All of us at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) know from research that field trips make a significant impact on a student’s learning experience, and we look forward to continuing to be an experiential learning destination for you and your class. The Museum provides engaging exhibits, enriching learning experiences and inquiry-based programs that augment classroom curriculum. Our team of STEM educators designed the MODS experience around Florida’s academic standards in science, math, social studies, the arts and health and wellness to expand the Museum visit into a cross-curricular experience.

As a hands-on center for experiential learning and professional development, the Museum is your trusted partner in providing stimulating STEM experiences and exciting exploration.

Did you know you can use Supplemental Arts and Sciences Program funding at MODS? These funds can be used for onsite field trips at the Museum, offsite at a location of your choice, summer and school field trips, supplemental afterschool programming, STEMobile bookings, family science events and more. See page 4 for information. Title 1 Schools may be eligible for scholarships or FREE outreach experiences. Please reach out to booking@mods.org.

We also are thrilled to share our innovative new exhibits with you, including the Discovery Spot, for early learners ages 0-6. This new exhibit, presented by JM Family Enterprises, features themes representing iconic Florida environments and experiences – from Ocean to Air and the Everglades to the Citrus Grove – where children can splash, climb, tinker and explore. Each area supports a child’s open-ended, role-playing and imaginative play. Explorations are available for ages 0-6 from 9 a.m. – 10 a.m. and will need to be prebooked for your field trip.

We invite all educators, administrators, school personnel and their family to join Family Science Night. See page 3 for more details! Whether you’re planning a field trip, organizing an outreach program (MODS STEMobile comes to you!), visiting us using educator benefits or taking advantage of our professional development courses, we’re here to support you in educating learners to succeed in tomorrow’s world.

To inspiring science and infinite discovery,

LEARNING THROUGH PLAY

MODS is one of 15 U.S. museums in the LEGO® Playful Learning Museum Network, strengthening the importance of learning through play at museums. Play enables us to explore, practice and try out ways of handling challenges in the real world. Life-long skills like problem-solving, creativity, empathy, communication and teamwork all have their foundations in play, therefore all LEGO® programs are based on playful learning and take a holistic approach to empowering young learners for the challenges they’ll face in life.

MODS is an ideal place for young children to learn and is critical for their development. A visit to MODS teaches young learners how to discover the world around them through brain and skill-building experiences that weave the strands of science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) with communication, problem-solving and perseverance.
