Section 1 Policy Statement of Intent The senior person with responsibility for plagiarism and cheating at Mode Training Limited (MTL) is Debbie Tagoe, Company Director, who will review this policy with Amanda Clarke, Quality Assurance Manager. 1. Aims To ensure that:    

the prevention of plagiarism and cheating is promoted at MTL tutors/assessors and learners understand what plagiarism is and the consequences of plagiarising tutors/assessors and learners understand what cheating is and the consequences of cheating any reported or discovered cases of plagiarism and cheating are investigated fully and dealt with in accordance with this policy

2. Definitions Definition of Plagiarism Presenting another persons intellectual work as their own. This applies to published and unpublished work without accrediting the author. Examples of Plagiarism   

Using extract from another persons work and not acknowledging the author Copying work without the other persons agreement Purchasing or downloading work and submitting it as your own

Definition of Cheating Violating rules and regulations to deceive an assessor or examiner Examples of Cheating    

Receiving information about the contents of an examination before it takes place Pretending to be someone else Using unauthorised materials or aids during an assessment or exam Giving excessive help during an exam July 2014

Overall responsibility for plagiarism and cheating

2. Plagirism and Cheating Co-ordinator Amanda Clarke The responsibility for plagiarism and cheating has been designated to a senior member of the management team at MTL. They will be responsible for:     

setting the policy and procedures investigating and reports or discoveries of plagiarism and cheating giving advice to curriculum specialists on compliance issues liasion with external agencies/organisations ensuring compliance with relevant guidance

Section 3 Arrangements Any suspected incidents of plagiarism and cheating should be dealt with as follows:    

The learner and any other person involved in that learners training are to be informed that an investigation is taking place into plagiarism or cheating All staff and learners are to fully co-operate with the investigation Amanda Clarke will carry out a full investigation and keep a record of the whole process The learner is to be informed of the outcome of the investigation and their right to appeal

If we have direct claim status:   

The awarding body is to be informed A disciplinary hearing will decide the outcome for the learner Any other sanctions are to be decided during a Senior Managers meeting and communicated to all teaching staff

If we do not have direct claims status:   

The awarding body are to be informed as soon as the investigation begins The awarding body will audit our investigation and provide a report on the outcome and recommended outcomes (to the ILM Quality and Regulatory Group) The group will decide on the sanctions and we will be informed.
