The Modern Parenthood Journal Team

Dear Reader,

A LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

The holidays have a way of reminding us how beautifully full modern parenthood is—equal parts chaos and magic Between the school concerts, late-night wrapping, and grocery runs, there are those small, glowing moments that make us pause and think, This is what I want to remember.

I created the Modern Parenthood Journal Holiday Gift Guide with that feeling in mind. Gifting should never add to the overwhelm; it should feel like an exhale Every item you’ll find here has been chosen with real families in mind—parents who are tired and tender, kids who are curious, caregivers who show up, and the village that keeps everything moving These gifts are intentional, beautifully made, and truly useful in everyday life. My hope is that this guide helps you shop with ease and maybe even sparks a few new traditions or cozy memories along the way.

As you explore, consider this guide a quiet conversation between us: one parent to another saying, You deserve ease. Your kids deserve wonder. Your family deserves moments that feel like a deep breath

Thank you for letting Modern Parenthood Journal be part of your season. It’s an honor to share these pages with you.

A Conversation Wrapped in

Heart & Harmony

In the middle of the holiday season when homes glow a little warmer and families gather a little closer singer-songwriter Shari Rowe offers a reminder of what truly brings us together. Her upcoming single, “Family Gathering,” captures the beauty found in real connection: the laughter, the stories, the chaos, and the gratitude that linger long after the celebration ends.

As part of our Holiday Gift Guide, we ’ re honored to share this special Q&A with Shari Her reflections on faith, family, and the meaning of presence feel like the perfect companion to a season built on togetherness

Settle in, pour something warm, and enjoy this heartfelt conversation.

“Family Gathering” feels like such a heartfelt anthem for this season. What inspired this song, and what does it mean to you personally? You know those scenes in a movie where a big family is together and it's loud and a bit chaotic? That's my family. I think, for those of us who have been blessed to be part of that chaos, we understand the beauty in it, and that in all of those personalities colliding lies the heart of family I wanted to capture that in this song

In today’s busy world, many families find it hard to slow down and truly connect. What are the small traditions or simple moments you cherish most when your loved ones come together? My mom taught me the importance of slowing down and making moments. I think it's about being present and intentional, whether that means planned Sunday dinners or the spontaneity of dropping things in my schedule to take a drive with my daughter, make cookies with the kids. or simply putting down my phone to sit outside and talk I love just watching the room when everyone is together

You’ve shared the stage with incredible artists — Wynonna Judd, LeAnn Rimes, and Diamond Rio, among others. How have those experiences influenced your artistry and approach to storytelling through music? Each time, I've been inspired to not ever give up When we think of big name artists, in general, there's a bit of disconnect but being side stage or up close and personal is a great reminder that we each have our own story.

Your songs often weave together themes of gratitude, faith, and family. How do those values guide your everyday life especially when balancing career, creativity, and relationships? They are vital in every aspect of life Setting priorities, creating art, finding peace and purpose, nurturing relationships- for me, these all begin with understanding the love that God has for us.

If you could describe the feeling you hope listeners experience when they hear “Family Gathering” for the first time, what would it be? Happy tears, as they find their own family in the song.

The holidays can be such a beautiful yet busy time. What message do you hope families take away from this song during the season? That it all goes by so fast I hope they'll stop to look around the room To listen to the stories being told To see the beauty of each generation represented, and that even when times are hard, our people are our biggest blessing.

As an artist, what has brought you the most joy or growth this year — personally or creatively? Personally, having faced some health challenges this year, I've certainly had opportunities for growth I couldn't have gotten through without my faith or family. The greatest joy I've ever felt was seeing how everyone showed up for me during those times Creatively, I've never been more fulfilled I think that stems from letting the vulnerability felt during times of struggle come through in my songs more than ever.

Looking ahead, what’s next for you after this release? Any upcoming projects, tours, or performances our readers can look forward to? I've got a new Christmas song coming out, and then more music in the new year. Of course, lots of shows!

Music often has a way of healing and bringing people together. Has there been a moment where one of your songs sparked a meaningful connection with a listener or family that stayed with you? There have been several, and those moments are everything to me We don't always know how a song will land with someone We put it out there and it takes on a life of its own, so to hear from someone directly is a beautiful thing.

How do you stay grounded when life gets busy — especially as you navigate performing, recording, and family life during the holidays? Music is a huge part of my life, and I'm grateful for my career, but it has to flow from real life with real people. When we lose sight of that, our peace is at risk and potentially, more.

If you could sit down for your own “family gathering” with any three people, past or present, who would they be and why? My mom and dad, who have passed I miss them so much On a lighter note- wouldn't it be fun to have Dolly at Thanksgiving dinner!!

When you think about your legacy as both an artist and a woman of faith, what message do you hope your music continues to leave behind? As an artist, that I did my best to give my authentic self, in a purposeful way. On a personal level, I guess it's the same, and that those around me felt loved and seen.

A Note of Gratitude & Grace

As we close this Q&A, we ’ re reminded of the very message woven through Shari’s words — that the greatest gifts we give each other can’t be wrapped. They’re found in the moments we slow down, look around the room, and appreciate the people who make our lives richer. We’re grateful to Shari Rowe for sharing her heart, her story, and her song with our readers this season And we hope her reflections inspire you to embrace the beauty in your own “family gathering,” however it looks this year.
