Case Study Development Mode Lab was tasked with developing a data-driven texture profile that would both embody and further define Harry’s brand position as an innovator in product aesthetics and shaving performance. Our unique ability to architect and develop complex design algorithms allowed us to rapidly iterate with complex, responsive geometry. Initially, we explored a variety of schematic textures in an onsite design session. We mapped grip zones on the handle, identifying

areas for control, manipulation, and requirements for manufacturing. As the project progressed, we narrowed the focus and increased the detail and fidelity of the concepts being explored, providing both visualizations and rapid prototypes to Harry’s design team. The Winston handle features a diamond-textured grip, a nod to the knurl pattern of classic safety razors. The scale and depth of the texture vary based on grip zones identified in the performance maps to create an updated, modern take on knurling.
